Nelly Furtado & Enrique Iglesias Back Marley Africa Campaign

 

 

Pop stars Nelly Furtado, Enrique Iglesias and Will Young have posted a harrowing video set to a Bob Marley song online in a bid to raise funds for the Africa famine relief efforts.

 

Rockers Muse and Coldplay and soccer ace David Beckham have also been moved by Save The Children's East Africa appeal campaign video, which uses clips of starving children and adults trying to treat their kids during the humanitarian crisis hitting the Horn of Africa, including countries such as Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia.

 

The devastating images have seen set to Bob Marley & The Wailers' 1973 track High Tide or Low Tide, and the promo has been released as a download to raise funds to help Africans.

 

Marley's widow Rita says, “Not one child should be denied food nor water. Not one child should suffer. Along with Save the Children, we (must) stand up together as friends to put a stop to this, to feed our children and to save their lives."

 

The I'm Gonna Be Your Friend campaign film was directed by The Last King Of Scotland moviemaker Kevin MacDonald.

"Jealousy" is hands down my favorite Will Young song to date. There's nothing about this song that I don't like. It's absolute perfection. From Young's tender vocal delivery, to the driving beats provided by producer Richard X, "Jealousy" is an electropop masterpiece through and through. Unlike many truly ACE songs, the complementary video for "Jealousy" is equally as perfect. Directed by Diamond Dogs (Olly Williams and Phil Sansom) (The Hoosiers, Rumblestrips) "Jealousy" tells the story of impossible love. Will Young portrays a young trapezist who's heart belongs to a fellow trapeze artist. As he follows the young guy around looking all forlorn and depressed, we soon learn the reason for his sadness...he's in love with someone else. This stunning video serves as the perfect counterpart to an already perfect musical specimen.

 

 

I absolutely LOVE where Will Young is headed, musically speaking. I think as a young artist, you've got quite a few chances to refine your sound and grow as a musician and at the age of 32, Will Young certainly has grown. When Young's Groove Armada collaboration, "History" was released I started to get excited. There had been rumblings around rumorville that Will was working on a more dance-pop sounding record, however aside from a few obligatory dance remixes there was nothing to show for those rumors. Enter "History" and all of my wishin' & hopin' suddenly became a reality. "Jealousy" appears to be a continuation of that electro sound that Young experimented with on "History." According to Young in an interview on STYLIST.co.uk, this new sound is something he'd been wanting to do for a while.

"My music has evolved a fair bit and I would say this is an electro-pop album. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for around six years and this felt like the right time to change musical direction. The music still retains an essence of me so it doesn’t feel like I’ve done something dishonest." {SOURCE}

"Jealousy" was co-written by Young and UK electro duo Kish Mauve (Kylie Minogue - "2 Hearts," "All The Lovers") and produced by Richard X (Róisín Murphy, Sophie Ellis-Bextor), who consequently produced Young's entire fifth studio album, entitled Echoes. Serving alongside the talented Mr. Young we have an impressive array of talented songwriters including Fred Falke, Andy Cato (Groove Armada), Richard Stannard, Kish Mauve, the Sound of Arrows, and Pascal Gabriel. Echoes is due out in the UK on August 22nd and is preceded by the release of "Jealousy" on the 21st. Will, who was the first winner of the X Factor's predecessor in 2001, said that he thought the teenager was sassy enough to deal with the negative response to her song, which went straight to number one in Sunday's charts.

'It feels really great to be back,' he said. 'I’ve got a new sound and it’s had a great reaction.

 

I feel like Echoes is the best record of my career. There are so many songs on it that could be singles.'

Will Young doesn't think his new album is "dishonest".

 

The 'Jealousy' hitmaker has changed to a more dance-centric sound on new album 'Echoes', but although he has previously been known for his pop ballads he does not feel like he has altered course too much from what people associate him with.

 

He said: "My music has evolved a fair bit and I would say this is an electro-pop album. It's something I've wanted to do for around six years and this felt like the right time to change musical direction

"The music still retains an essence of me so it doesn't feel like I've done something dishonest."

 

As well as getting experimental with his music, Will still likes to challenge himself with his career, and has enjoyed getting involved behind-the-scenes in the film business.

 

He said: "While I was making this album I took some time out to go to Serbia where I filed a documentary on Ralph Fiennes' forthcoming film version of Shakespeare's tragedy 'Coriolanus'. I've invested money in the film and I'm a silent producer, which is amazing."

The Leave Right Now singer wrote some tunes on his upcoming new album, Echoes – which will be released on August 22 – after bumping into a former lover and reckons his songs will most likely always possess some aspect of sadness about them.

 

The 32-year-old said that “two of the saddest songs on this album were written after I bumped into someone I used to see, which sent me into a spin”.

 

Will added that “it was like a punch in the stomach”, although he believes “you need that” and thinks it’s unlikely that he “will ever write an entirely happy record”.

 

Will is certainly content with how his career is progressing, but can’t say that about his relationships as he finds it impossible to stop from going “potty” as well as analyzing things in too much detail when dating.

 

The Light My Fire hitmaker spoke to Attitude magazine about his problems, saying that, although he is “pretty good with most things”, he struggles with relationships and “when it comes to matters of the heart, I do go a bit potty”.

 

While Will reckons he is “getting better with age”, he also points to the fact that he repeatedly analyses “the texts – what does one kiss mean and all that stuff”.
