Reality peck: Will Young meets Alexandra Burke

The Pop Idol winner looked as if he had no idea of her identity — it was another reality show winner, The X Factor's Alexandra Burke.

Will, 30, looked embarrassed as he was overheard saying, “Oh, that was...” and apologised. Shy Alex, 21, had insisted on joining the long queue when she arrived at the club in St Martin's Lane. But the ropes were pulled aside for her straight away. Well, at least the doormen recognised her...

ITV bosses 'plan popstar opera show'

Wednesday, September 23 2009, 10:25 BST

By Daniel Kilkelly, Entertainment Reporter

ITV has started making plans for a new reality contest called Popstars to Opera Stars, according to a report.

The competition will see a group of well-known singers training to perform arias before showing off their new vocal skills in front of the nation each week, The Sun claims.

It is thought that opera favourites Katherine Jenkins and Russell Watson are among the famous faces being lined up as judges, while Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts could mentor the celebrity contestants.

A source told the newspaper: "We're aiming big as this will be a massive show. We are talking about people like Will [Young], Kimberley Walsh from Girls Aloud and Mutya [buena] from the Sugababes.

"It's all about getting people out of their comfort zones. It is a tough call for an established singer, as they could end up struggling with some of the notes in opera."

ITV bosses reportedly came up with the show after noticing the success of traditional singers like Potts and Susan Boyle on Britain's Got Talent.

Despite rumours in the press to the contrary, we can officially confirm that Will is not taking part in the new ITV Talent Show ‘Popstars to Opera Star’. As ever you only ever hear official news first at www.willyoung.co.uk

The Star

25th September 2009 By Katie Begley

SIMON Cowell will bring out the big guns to make sure The X Factor foxtrots all over Strictly Come Dancing.

BBC bosses will bid to steal fans from his ITV ratings juggernaut next weekend with what they are calling an “action-packed” two-hour show.

But Simon, 49, has hit back by revealing Kylie Minogue, 41, Ronan Keating, 32, and Will Young, 30, will help to pick his final 12 acts. The only act the Beeb has unveiled is crooner Andy Williams, 82, who will perform Moon River.

An X Factor insider said: “Are we worried? No way! Strictly claim they want to appeal to a younger audience, but will people aged 16 to 25 have a clue who Andy Williams is?

“Meanwhile, we’ve got Kylie, Ronan and Will. I think it’s an easy choice for most people.”

The X Factor is comfortably winning the ratings battle. It notched an extra two million fans when it clashed with Strictly last weekend.

And the trio of stars are just the beginning.

The following week Robbie Williams, 35, will perform his new track Bodies.

Last year’s winner Alexandra Burke, 21, will also showcase her latest single Bad Boys.

leemcgavinjoey: Skins filming was nice yesterday, met some great people, although they confiscated our phones because Will Young was there!

Thanks Sunday.

Regardless of the fact that they have all been in the business a long time and know it from the inside and can pass on their knowledge - he's not daft - he knows all three have sound fanbases who will help to boost his ratings no end. Britney and Mariah brought absolutely nothing to the show and I bet it cost him an arm and a leg to have them on there.

If I'm reading the Star article correctly it sounds as if they have 2 guest artists each week.

Thanks to Julie will4me. More info re Skins.

Teen drama Skins is to be expanded into a worldwide brand following the appointment of the man behind “Brand Beckham”.

Skins-producer Company Pictures has entered into an agreement with Crystal Entertainment, run by Charles Garland, to create an integrated global multi-platform brand.

The Skins creative team, headed by Brian Elsley, will work closely with Garland to forge new commercial partnerships and revenue streams spanning TV, film, music, fashion and online.

Garland is a former chief operating officer at 19 Entertainment, where he oversaw the roll-out of the Pop Idol/American Idol franchise as well as the global branding of David and Victoria Beckham. He said: “Skins is definitive in its category – the most authentic teen brand on TV. As such it has an intense relationship with its audience which is at the core of the opportunity to build the franchise well beyond television.”

Skins has run for three series on digital channel E4, with a fourth being produced for broadcast in 2010. A movie is also in the works and a novel is set to be released around Christmas. In addition, MTV is adapting Skins for US audiences, with the action transposed to Baltimore.

Wonder if Will being there has anything to do with the rumoured production company he set up with Simon Fuller.

Was also thinking wouldn't it be brilliant if the new single could be a soundtrack for such a programe. Pipe dreaming I know but a lovely thought. :)
