A source has told ChristopherCouture.co.uk that singer Will Young and West End star and winner of I'd Do Anything, Jodie Prenger, have both been approached by the bosses of Strictly Come Dancing to appear on this year's line-up.

 

Our source told us:

 

"The bosses of Strictly Come Dancing know that they need to up their game every year as they once again go head-to-head with The X Factor.

 

Roughly 14million people tuned in to watch last year's final, growing from 11million the previous year, showing that Strictly is getting bigger and better, and therefore needs to sign up bigger and better names.

 

The American adaption, Dancing With The Stars, manages to pull in big celebrities such as Nicole Scherzinger and David Hasselhoff, and the bosses over here want to aim for the same. They want stars that are very current or very famous, not "has beens" and wannabes.

 

Though understated, Will Young is very successful and recognisable, and the producers are eager to have him on board. Naturally, there is a reluctance on Young's part, but producers are hoping a higher amount of money will encourage him to sign up.

 

Also very close to signing up for this year's series is Jodie Prenger, winner of BBC1's I'd Do Anything. Through the show, she went on to play Nancy in the West End production of Oliver and appears to always be up for a challenge. Producers are hoping her vivacious and friendly personality will make her Strictly's version of Stacey Solomon."

Oh my mother will be over-the-moon if Will Young signs up. If rumours are true, we'll also see Alex Jones and Jason Donovan joining them on the dancefloor.

UK’s mum-friendly pop crooner Will Young delivered a lovely piano cover of Kate Bush‘s classic “Running Up That Hill” for Dermot O’Leary’s Saturday Sessions on Radio 2 yesterday. His cover cemented the fact that he’s still one of Britain’s best contemporary male pop voices. His forthcoming album, the Richard-X-produced “Echoes”, will see him heading for a long-awaited dance-pop direction, and if lead single “Jealousy” is any indication, pop fans will be in for a real treat, even those who weren’t fans of his music before. You can download the balladry performance below. “Jealousy” drops on August 21, and the album follows a day later.
