Posted September 5, 200915 yr I thought I already made a topic about this but I can't find it now. I just thought I'd say I went and she was great, was such an intimate venue, didn't even have a barrier in front of the stage. I'll just post my review I wrote after coming back: She was just as brilliant as the last time I saw her, but I felt iTunes was the better show. We got no support act tonight and some of the songs she'd replaced on the setlist ("Greatest Day", "Queen Of Starting Over") were some of my faves last time. I'd have loved to hear just oneor two more songs from the new album too, perhaps "Breakout" or "Turned To Stone". That said, wow, I don't know how anyone could go to a Beverley Knight show and not be blown away. She kicked it off in the same fashion as the iTunes gig with "Flavour Of The Old School" which ran straight into "Made It Back". Then she went on to do "In Your Shoes" which was fab and the crowd loved it, loved her moves on this. "Every Step" was next, got a decent reception and more people than I thought seemed to know it. She said she was going to do the next track acoustically and that was "Bare" (though it sounded like it does on the Myspace) clip. This was beautiful, showed of some of her best vocals of the night, she seemed to be singing it to James, who was like two or three people to the right of me at that point. Next was "Gold", she dedicated it to the fans as usual and did it in the same arrangement as iTunes and the show where she dedicated it to Adam and his mum. Coincidentally I was standing next to Adam at this show and he almost had me in tears, which is probably a bit weird. It's just a lovely performance. Up next was "Too Much Heaven", stunning vocals as per, quite a dreamy song and, as she said, what a good song to cover. Then she performed "Beautiful Night" which was lovely, in the introduction she was like "this is one you've probably heard on the radio...or at least should have *miffed face*" haha. Then she knocked out the hits "Piece Of My Heart", "Shoulda Woulda Coulda" (same arrangement as that epic iTunes performance) and "Keep This Fire Burning" before going into "Soul Survivor". Probably my highlight, it just sooo get's the crowd going. I must admit I was half expecting Chaka to appear after there was no support act, but Mary did her bits again. She was saying about how this song probably best sums up how she feels about her 15 years in the business. For the encore it was "100%" which she was dedicating to James again, cue the "awww"s from everyone. Apart from that people didn't seem that into it, perhaps it was too unfamiliar? To finish we got "Come As You Are" which was almost the same as when I saw her at iTunes but good all the same. Oh dear, I do ramble on don't I? Yes, it was great and I can't wait to see her again on tour. I'm just glad I went on my own as I wouldn't have been pleased if I forked out for two tickets when it was a very similar to the show I got in for free. But it was worth it to me. (though my Mum said she was lazy for only being on stage for 1 hour and 15 minutes LOL!)and now a proper review from the Evening Standard: Beverley Knight oozes sex-tinged energy By John Aizlewood, None 04.09.09 Handicapped by hailing from Wolverhampton rather than Washington and by never quite managing to acquire the fistful of classic songs that would have pushed her to household name status, instead Beverley Knight MBE has had to settle for 15 years as Britain’s premier soulstress. Lesser lights would have long been dimmed at the frustration of failing to make the final breakthrough but Knight is a trouper extraordinaire and at last night’s low key show (she’ll sell out the Royal Albert Hall next April) to mark the release of her sixth album, 100%, she was in the form of her career. She may be down to earth (“Hot in here, innit?”) and more eager to please than an about-to-be-fed puppy (“I want you to love this,” she pleaded before the new In Your Shoes) but she was a high-kicking, finger-pointing, charisma-oozing, hand-clapping ball of sex-tinged energy, whether she was almost literally punching out the most exhilarating version of the hoary old Piece Of My Heart I’ve encountered; her own meaty manifesto Soul Survivor or the anthemic Beautiful Night. And when her supertight band left her and her keyboardist to emote through the stately Gold and Bare, she was a more believable, less sterile Whitney Houston. A tepid version of The Bee Gees’ ever-naff Too Much Heaven was the only misstep but the closing Come As You Are (not the Nirvana one) left a rabid crowd uplifted, cleansed and wondering if we’ve been rather taking Beverley Knight for granted all these years.

September 6, 200915 yr A couple of Take That went to watch and support Bev at this I think. Jason & Howard. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/playlist/view/9...What-a-Knight-/ Howard has a short memory though, because at the penultimate night of the Beautiful World Tour in Manchester, Bev came on as a special guest and sang a few songs with them on the centre stage. Beautifully. I just don't understand how this woman doesn't have more commercial success. Norma Edited September 6, 200915 yr by Norma_Snockers
September 6, 200915 yr Author Sounds amazing! I wish I went, but instead I was at Britney's concert! Wow, I know which one I'd have rather been at. Luckily, I was at the one of my choice. ^_^ A couple of Take That went to watch and support Bev at this I think. My Mum was waiting in the car for me and she said she'd bumped into Howard on the way out of the toilets. I wasn't sure if I believed her, but when I got home I saw a fan posing with Jason from the show, so she was right after all. I'd have loved to see her performing with Take That, I can imagine how beautiful it'd be. Me neither, she's one of our best female artists and she's never been truly recognised throughout her 15 years in the industry. I hope you're purchasing your copy of her album this week Norma. ;)

September 8, 200915 yr Glad you had a great time, great review!!! SO gutted I didn't go now after watching those clips, sounds amazing. still got my unused tickets, lol. To be honest, I'm not really liking anything from this album bar a few tracks and I couldn't be arsed to traipse all the way there but from those clips, she sounds amazing. Should have just got ready and went. Definitely not giving up my tickets for Royal Albert Hall though. Funny thing is though, I got unused tickets from the Michael Jackson tour and they are dated exactly the same so they will both sit on the shelf unused.... (when they get around to sending out the bloody MJ tickets, that is)

(when they get around to sending out the bloody MJ tickets, that is) Aww, it's a shame you're not liking the album, I love it! You should have definitely gone, it was pretty much the same as the iTunes show that you missed out on, she'd just swapped "Greatest Day", "The Queen Of Starting Over" and "Get Up!" for "Bare", "100%" and "Too Much Heaven" and changed the order a little. She was in her element and the small crowd made it seem so much more personal, there was no barrier to separate the crowd and stage for a start.
September 8, 200915 yr I know, I woke up with the idea that I was going but the closer it got I kept thinking ''Oh man I can't be arsed to travel all that distance by public transport and again on the way back'' plus my neutrality for the album went against the decision for me to go too. I know, from the video it seems to be very much like the gig she did at the MCM cafe in paris - a hundred or so people there with no barrier or anything.

Aww shame, it actually felt like a standard show, rather than an album showcase, the only era she totally ignored was "Music City Soul". Shame really, "No Man's Land" can be chilling love, would have loved to have seen it at one of the shows. Yup, can't have been many more than that there, seemed like a relatively small room.
March 18, 201015 yr Author I don't know if any of you would be interested, but the show has been available to stream in full on her Myspace in a while, but there's a download link for it here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XJ0ZL5W8 I'm really excited about this as there's no better way to remember a gig you've been to than to have it all to play back! The only problem I seem to have found is that at some point it skips past "Too Much Heaven" and adds a bit of it to the end of the file, but I'm hoping the rest is okay. It's all one long file, so you even get to hear her talking to the crowd. ^_^
