Take That got Best Band at the awards.

GQ's own on it - a bit more stylish than the currant bun!

Take That - Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald - are the biggest band in Britain. Since their 2006 comeback after a decade in the wilderness, they have sold close to five million albums. The Circus, released last December, topped the charts for five weeks. The Circus live show was the fastest-selling tour in UK history. The Wembley concerts alone are a staggering achievement. No other group - not U2, not Coldplay, not Oasis - attempted to sell more than three nights there this year. If nostalgia accounted for the immediate success of their return, then it's something else that is sustaining this second act in the life of the nation's favourite former boy band.

"Our story is too complicated to sum up in a few lines," says Gary. "If we'd tried to plan it like this it would never have happened."

They do scrub up rather nice don't they? I'm so happy it was Yoko Ono presenting the award to them. I know she was never too popular with Beatles fans after her marriage to John but she's backed several projects in Liverpool and has been very good to the city.

Here's a bit more on the award ... but I'm more intrigued by the 'special project' they've been working on at Abbey Road (this must be what Mike Stevens, was twittering on about).

Thanks for all of the links, Norma. I too am intrigued by the special project. They all seem happy to be getting back to work.

I think the secret project is only the acoustic cd for the DVD. Oh my, i am sooo very excited now by the DVD! I can hardly wait, this CD make it more valuable for me :cheer: :yahoo:

Did i tell you that i like Yoko now much more because she loves Shine :teresa: ? I bet they were chuffed that Yoko gave them the award (well, at least Mark was for sure, he also loves the Abbey Road, he keeps returning there).

The live CD to go with the DVD makes soooo much more sense than a new song. Am dying to her what songs they have done

This definitly adds even more value to the dvd

I don't want to presume too early ... but if the right extras are put on it, it could end up being the biggest selling music dvd ever. I'm glad too that it appears that they're not releasing a Circus Deluxe album (even at the cost of it never making the 2 million mark). I'm not too certain what I think about deluxe editions ... to me it seems as if the fans have been cheated. One thing in Rob's defence (and its probably because he's read my mind  ) is that he's putting out his deluxe at the same time as the ordinary album.

Id love it to be the best selling music dvd ever i really would, but we have no clue as to what the best selling dvd is and what the target for take that is.

I think that they have a real chance to do this. Mike Stevens said that the recording session at Abbey Road was 'unplugged'. Really really excited to hear this now and I think that it was a brilliant idea to do this to accompany the DVD

I have to admit im not overly excited at the acoustic cd as im not an acoustic fan in general but it will be interesting.

I wonder many things now: which instrument do Mark play, as i think his bass is not an acoustic instrument?

Second: which songs would work as an acoustic version? I can only think at Patience, Julie, Up all night, The circus and What is love. Perhaps also The Garden...but without the powerful instrumentation Howard part won't be as good as in original version. Wooden boat is also on the original quite acoustic, i won't see the gain of a new version...

I cannot imagine Rule the world, Shine as acoustic for some reason.....

I know what you mean about some of the songs but that's what I'm excited about. Just take 'Could it be Magic' from the BW tour. I know that that was the original Barry Manilow version but it really worked for them and it was accoustic as far as I know as it just had piano and strings. It sounds so different from the way we are used to hearing them perform it. I suppose I'm hoping that they may change the arrangement of some of the songs. I used to love watching the 'Unplugged' sessions that they used to have on MTV. Some of them were brilliant.

LOL, i am also from that unplugged MTV generation. Perhaps is why i am excited :w00t: . Mark's songs are excellent as acoustic (the german How the mighty fall is a real gem because of the four acoustic versions, three of them are really good), we might have some pleasant surprises here too.

I hate Could it be magic as a quick version and i love the Manilow original, as in BW. I was so disappointed that they chooses once again their version on The Circus :arrr: . I still cannot imagine Shine as a acoustic song  .

Edit: what i do hope is that they don't add more strings as they already have. Said it all is drowned already in strings and this tends to make a song sugar coated. If they increase the sound of cello and deep sounded string instruments, it may be a benefit , as it give a dramatic effect. But i hope no more violins :teresa:

Have to admit that I haven't heard Mark's accoustic versions but I can imagine that he does them well. I love the accoustic version of We All Fall Down.
