Is Not Tonight Santa a cover? If so, who sang it originally?

Half the bonus disc are original songs - Not Tonight Santa, I Wanna Kiss You So (Christmas in a Nutshell), Christmas Round at Ours and Count the Days.

^ I see now. I got confused because I looked at the credits and didn't recognize any of the songwriters names: Holly Bush, S. Claws, Henry Mistletoe, Beth Lehem and Festiv Gifts, but then I realized these are all pseudonyms for the Xenomania team members.

Not Tonight Santa has passed 5 million streams :cheer: It's now on 5,068,657! It's their 15th song to pass 5m. I think by the time Christmas is over it should have exceeded 6m, and in doing so it'll overtake the total stream totals of Long Hot Summer and Sexy! No No No... (it passed the Radio Edit of The Loving Kind today too).

Sound of the Underground also moves up to being their 2nd most popular song, ahead of Jump. That means it's been streamed more times in the past month than Jump!

Sound of the Underground passed 40 million streams on Spotify on the 23rd Dec :cheer: Its total is now 40,019,357, with 24,087 streams occurring on that date.

Not Tonight Santa is now on 6,218,958, an increase of 150,345! I hope that at last a few of those listeners who've never heard of Girls Aloud before might be interested to check them out.

Total monthly listeners now stand at 2,311,358.

Isn't Christmas Pop the same playlist that Christmas Wrapping is on? If so, how come Not Tonight Santa gets far less streams?
I guess it's to do with how prominent they are on the playlist - Christmas Wrapping is 18th, Not Tonight Santa is 59th!

I'm very happy and surprised to see how well Not Tonight Santa has done this year! The power of a good playlist. Especially considering the fact it was never a single and most of the general public probably have no idea Girls Aloud did a Christmas album to start with.

Also lovely to see SOTU increasing quite a bit and finally hitting that 40 million mark! The rest of their streams are still so low though, I don't understand how they are so low considering the fact they were such a big pop force back in the day!

It's a pity but I suppose their streams outside of the UK just aren't very strong?

The "All Out 2000s" playlist has over 10 million likes, which has never included any Girls Aloud songs. However it includes other UK/Irish artists that were popular in Europe such as Sugababes, Blue, Westlife & Atomic Kitten. Maybe Girls Aloud being so UK specific does them a disservice for playlist consideration? :(

OCC recently shared a list of the most streamed Christmas #1s, and I thought it was interesting that Sound of the Underground in 18th meant it had out streamed every Spice Girls Christmas #1 (including 2 Become 1 which was 20th). Sound of the Underground has 40m worldwide Spotify streams and 2 Become 1 has almost 116m, yet we now know that SOTU is streamed more than 2 Become 1 in the UK alone, therefore it sells better. Maybe this applies across the rest of their streaming figures - so despite their worldwide streaming figures looking quite low, they're probably mostly from UK streamers and therefore they're at least well remembered in their core market?

The most obvious anomaly is Not Tonight Santa though - the majority of those streams are definitely coming from outside the UK!

Speaking of Not Tonight Santa, its Christmas Eve update is... total: 6,411,962, daily figure: 193,004!

It's a pity but I suppose their streams outside of the UK just aren't very strong?

That's definitely a big factor yes, they actually did have two top 10 hits over here (The Netherlands) back in the day (SOTU and Jump) and multiple songs that charted as well (No Good Advice, Love Machine), but generally speaking they are completely forgotten, no one talks about them anymore and I doubt anyone listens to them still. I still find it surprising that even within the UK, the streams for a song like Biology are so low. It is interesting indeed how well SOTU does in the UK compared to some of the big Spice songs.

And incredibly funny most of the Not Tonight Santa streams are coming from abroad; that's just the power of the playlist. I bet a lot of those streams come from people who have no idea who they are

Their success outside the UK and Ireland was fairly limited, which is a huge shame really, i always felt Australia was a country they should have done much better in, they only had 3 Top 40 hits there as pop music often done well in Australia in those days, and likewise with Germany but i don't know did the Girls ever do much promo in other countries apart from the UK.
Sound of the Underground is included in Spotify's New Year's Eve Party Bangers playlist which is being pushed on their home page. I'm not sure if the positions and songs included are the same for everybody. But it's showing as the 93rd song out of 198 for me. Let's hope it gets some decent streams! :cheer:
For those who do stream Sound of the Underground may go a step further and stream other Girls Aloud songs.
For those who do stream Sound of the Underground may go a step further and stream other Girls Aloud songs.

Hopefully!

Sound of the Underground was streamed 45,780 times yesterday, increasing its total to 40,200,838. The previous day's streams were 20,548, so that's an increase of 122.8%!

Not Tonight Santa still doing pretty decent streams, 10,202 on New Year's Eve which lifts the total to 6,756,818.

They need a Tik Tok breakthrough to really increase streaming for at least one song.

Never really appreciated how lucky we were with Girls Aloud in what we got! 5 studio albums, 2 Greatest Hits, a Christmas album, a remix album and a live album! Plus that incredible singles box! Then the various incredible tours! 😍
They did release a fair amount and getting 5 studio albums was great, even though i still feel they had at least 1 more big studio album left in them before they split the first time.
