September 25, 200816 yr  I see you have Leave in your recently played songs list :heehee: yeah, I'm not sure she'd do fantastically well in the BJSC, maybe a Jamelia style result, unless you can find a fantastic song of hers
September 25, 200816 yr Author  I see you have Leave in your recently played songs list :heehee: yeah, I'm not sure she'd do fantastically well in the BJSC, maybe a Jamelia style result, unless you can find a fantastic song of hers Yeah, I was just having a listen again to see if I thought her voice was good enough. But most people don't really care whether the artist has a strong voice, they just want a good song. Seeing the likes of Avril, Mutya, Gwen, Christina and Jamelia flopping with decent album tracks makes me a little skeptical about sending her - it'd have to be fairly spectacular to do well and surely someone would have found a really good song by her by now as her albums are both over a year old. I'll give her a listen though. My problem this month is I don't know what to send again, last month I had no idea what to send. This month, however, I have quite a lot of ideas but I've pretty much written them all off already. So far I've rejected: Raven-Symoné - In Your Skin (I like it a lot, but she's a Disney singer and it would do really badly I think) Louise - Let's Go Round Again (Probably too cheap and would do exactly what 'Carolyna', 'Other Side Of The World' etc. did) Cherish - Taken (See Raven, but they aren't Disney singers) Then I've got the following that I'm probably gonna reject but I wont give the full details: A song that peaked at #199 this year A #3 hit from 1998 (it should show up in the retro chart very soon) A cover of a 60s song by the same artist above A song from the SATC soundtrack A cover of an 80s song by someone who is no stranger to this contest (but with two top 2 finishes it might be cheap)

I don't know what 60's song she covered though
September 25, 200816 yr Author very vague clues there :o I'm trying to think of an 80s song Lily Allen has covered, maybe Don't Get Me Wrong? that was very nice, it made my chart last year thanks to that Radio 1 Established album... a #3 hit from 1998...hmm...Lauryn Hill? I don't know what 60's song she covered though  Is the SATC song Jennifer Hudson - All Dressed In Love? Not vague enough apparently, that's 3/5 guessed correctly and you can easily find out the other Lauryn Hill song now. The first song is from an album that reached #11 in the UK. I'm not sure if I should go for any of these though. I've been thinking about sending the Lily Allen song for a while but of course she came 2nd in BJSC VI so I couldn't send her in the following contest, then after that she won BJSC VIII so I couldn't use it in that or BJSC IX and I thought it would look very cheap if I just used it at the first opportunity. It would look like I was entering it because she's somewhat of a 'recipe for success' at the moment. I just think sending a cover version is slightly riskier because people could either like it or find it criminal to the Pretenders version. I'm thinking it would probably be seen as a cheap entry though because of her previous record in this contest lately. As for Lauryn Hill's two songs, I think the #3 hit could be a bit too...hip-hop to do well in this contest. The other song of hers doesn't really suffer this but I don't know if it's right for the contest, it doesn't seem to have the (E)X-Factor (:kink:) a song needs to win. I'm leaning slightly towards 'All Dressed In Love' and the other song I think but as I said before they are all songs I will probably reject, they're just still floating about if I don't find the song.
September 26, 200816 yr Author Ooh no, but 'Konichiwa Bitches' wouldn't be a bad idea for an entry actually.
September 26, 200816 yr Konichiwa Bitches is great, I'm surprised more people haven't used Robyn actually :o
September 26, 200816 yr I was thinking of sending Show Me Love once. Seriously i have enought songs i want to enter to last me until BJSC30
September 26, 200816 yr Author Konichiwa Bitches is great, I'm surprised more people haven't used Robyn actually :o I'm thinking of sending it now, I like her album but I realised I didn't have it on my computer so I had to borrow my brother's copy and put it on my PC today. I'm wondering how it'd do though, I'm sure quite a few people have the album already so it's not likely to be new to them. I might have to do a round up of my ideas so far and see what people think. Seriously i have enought songs i want to enter to last me until BJSC30  I usually never have any ideas and now I kinda do but I don't know if any of them are right for this.
September 26, 200816 yr Author Ok, here are my five ideas at the moment: qd4Su5qmf1o Robyn - Konichiwa Bitches fAbspwdjnew Alicia Keys - Teenage Love Affair (this was the #199 song, there is an official video but it's 5 minutes long because it has acting bits in it) wCghSVTFrDs Jennifer Hudson - All Dressed In Love zJ3SMfJF8Ic Lauryn Hill - Doo Wop (That Thing) qFLhhnWmvBw Lily Allen - Don't Get Me Wrong Please give opinions or rate them or tell me to go back to the drawing board and start again if necessary. September 26, 200816 yr marks out of ten: Robyn - Konichiwa Bitches 9/10 Alicia Keys - Teenage Love Affair :puke: 3/10 Jennifer Hudson - All Dressed In Love 7/10 Lauryn Hill - Doo Wop (That Thing) 5/10 Lily Allen - Don't Get Me Wrong 9/10 I wonder what you think of this song, it would seem to be in line with your tastes, and is like a far superior version of Teenage Love Affair!!! Faith Evans - Again LPsGohsZFCI
September 26, 200816 yr Author Ooh I do like that song. At first I saw the name and I thought of Faith Hill, this happened in reverse last week when that girl sang "There You'll Be", I thought she was talking about Faith Evans. It's is quite similar sounding to 'Teenage Love Affair', I wonder if they both sample the same song. Do you think sending Robyn or Lily would be a good idea? I can't tell if people will be bored of people sending Lily now. I don't see anything wrong with Robyn necessarily but I would guess that a lot of people have heard her albums which makes me wonder why 'Keep This Fire Burning' is the only song people have sent so far - and that isn't even from 'Robyn'. Edited September 26, 200816 yr by Aaron™
September 26, 200816 yr maybe they do sample the same track :o I used to love that Faith Evans song when it came out, reminds me of one of my holidays  I'm not necessarily saying Robyn or Lily would be a good idea, I just think they are far and away the best two tracks of your five...Robyn I would assume would get some of the pop fans votes as well as some of the alternative fans votes as its a bit odd...then again, it's so odd, perhaps a lot of people would hate it!?! Lily's song is very nice, that video seems to cut off the introduction of the song though  I'm sure on the CD I have of it, Lily doesn't start singing straight away...I personally think Lily would look a tad cheap having, like you say, come top two twice, but a cover version is something a bit different, so perhaps people would forgive the cheapness of the artist!?! my favourite cover on that album was the glorious cover of All I Need To Get By, by Mark Ronson, I liked it so much, it got to No.9 in my chart exactly a year ago now I think!: qz_1UmR7LKo

It's a shame she's basically a taboo artist now because it's been on the back burner for a while for me, it's just BJSC X was the first time I could have actually used it but I thought it would look even worse to use her as soon as she was free again. Hopefully a few more people will say if they find it cheap still. That Mark Ronson cover is good actually, I don't have that album though. I do have the songs Amy Winehouse, The Feeling, Mutya Buena, Just Jack, Natasha Bedingfield, Girls Aloud and, of course, Lily Allen did on it. Ahh I just don't know what to send!
September 26, 200816 yr OMFG COBRASTYLE IS ORGASMIC. Dream On is amazing too if you haven't heard it. Robyn.
September 26, 200816 yr Author Ooh 'Dream On' is really good, I don't have it yet though as it's on the US edition only. I think I'm slowly leaning towards Robyn now. (I'm so easily influenced ) It's between 'Cobrastyle' or 'Dream On' probably.
September 27, 200816 yr Personally I would rank them: 1. Lily Allen 2. Lauryn Hill 3. Alicia Keys 4. Jennifer Hudson 5. Robyn :puke2: Wow I knew the Lily Allen song you'd entered would be "Don't Get Me Wrong" before I even looked in this thread!! How odd! I think if you've been thinking about sending the song for a while just go for it, I don't think you should be put off by what people think of the artist in the context of the competition. It is a very good song (actually one of Lily's best recordings I think) and I don't think a backlash against a popular artist would be as big as some people think. Like Rich said, the fact that it's a cover could be different, since you're entering the artist with a different spin. Please don't send Robyn!
September 27, 200816 yr Here is what I think of the songs: 1st Robyn - Konichiwa Bitches (I just adore this bonkers Bjork inspired track, my favourite off the album excluding Every Heartbeat) 2nd Lily Allen - Don't Get Me Wrong (arguably her best ever vocal) 3rd Jennifer Hudson - All Dressed In Love (I prefer this to Spotlight) 4th Lauryn Hill - Doo Wop (That Thing) (A former PC #1 but if you are lucky will be bottom half in the Final at best like Daft Punk were in BJSC10) 5th Alicia Keys - Teenage Love Affair (Superwoman is far better IMHO) Put it this way, you are spoilt for choice with your Top 3 songs IMHO.
