But her trust was cruelly betrayed. Lorraine Elston couldn't believe she was chatting on the phone to one of the world's most famous singers, Anastacia. They'd never met, but Anastacia, who had a hit with I'm Outta Love, had become friendly with the family when Lorraine's partner, Wayne Newton, started working as her personal bodyguard. Lorraine, 44, recalls: "Anastacia seemed lovely, asking me how I was, how my children were. She sounded so caring and sincere, and insisted she wanted to meet me." The singer had grabbed the phone during one of Wayne's daily phone calls from Europe to Lorraine and their two sons Corey, 10, and three-year-old Max, back home in Beckenham, Kent. "She said she had to speak to the woman Wayne adored," remembers Lorraine. "All this man does is talk about you and the two kids," Anastacia said to me. 'He idolises you. You are a very lucky woman.'" Lorraine thought it was just an innocent phone call. But several months later, in March this year, she was horrified when a newspaper claimed that Wayne, 39, and Anastacia, 38, had fallen for each other. Wayne moved out of the family home, and betrayed Lorraine has been left struggling to cope with the collapse of her 13-year relationship. Speaking for the first time about the man who was essentially her common law husband, Lorraine says: "Wayne was a good man who worked hard to provide for us. In the past he'd worked for Mariah Carey, Sting and Madonna, but he hated being away from us when he was on tour. He'd phone home every day, and would always say he'd pay me back for being away all the time. For years he was a good partner and father. "Our relationship was always a real team effort. Wayne earned good money in his job and we were working for our future. That was something he was very old-fashioned about. He saw it as his job to provide a nice home and to provide for the kids. We were happy together, and he said he hated being apart from us when he was on tour. But the relationship deteriorated after he went to work for Anastacia in April 2004. Lorraine recalls: "Wayne become withdrawn, and started saying he was happier on the road than at home. He seemed unhappy, and I knew something was seriously wrong. Then Anastacia bought him a $3,000 watch. I didn't say anything, but I felt humiliated because I could never afford a watch like that." Wayne also complained about Lorraine, an administrator, for putting on weight. "I'm self-conscious about my weight - I'd gone up from a size 8 when we met, to a size 16 through a combination of comfort eating and stress - but I was happy with my two boys and a man who I loved and I thought loved me," she says. But as their relationship continued to falter, Lorraine began to fear the worst. "I kept asking of there was something going on. Eventually I was hysterical and in tears. I wanted to understand what was going wrong between us," she says." Then one morning in March this year, he said it was over between us. I was so upset I drove to my sister Sharon's house. Wayne phoned me there and said a newspaper was doing a story saying he was having an affair with Anastacia, but that it wasn't true." But when the newspaper ran the story days later, Lorraine told Wayne to leave their home. He continued to deny that he was having an affair with the singer, but a series of emails that Lorraine found on his computer gave a different impression. "My heart just broke and I read them," she says. In one message, dated 20 august 2005, Anastacia wrote to Wayne, who was at home in England at the time: "I miss ya like crazy... I really got attached to ya and want to stay in touch if ya don't mind - on a 'non working' level. "I've been a real loser at choosing the right guy, but you are the perfect role model. IF LORRAINE GIVES YOU THE DOG HOUSE... I GOT FIRST DIBS!!!" In other emails the multimillion-album-selling singer, who had a successful lumpectomy in 2003 after discovering she had breast cancer, used her nickname 'Tigger' and talked about wanting to be a mother. In one email, Wayne wrote: "I have spent the best part of a year with you and unlike anybody I have worked with before, you really got under my skin! Of course I am really positive about you finding love, have you looked in the mirror recently? You're hot!!!" Reading the emails was devastating for Lorraine, who claims Wayne has since admitted to his affair with Anastacia. "Wayne and I were having difficulties, but we would have got through them," she says. I can't understand how any woman could get close to a man knowing full well he was in a relationship, especially when he's got children. "She is a wealthy, powerful woman who clearly decided she wanted Wayne - and got him. I was in a committed relationship with a man who was my life. Anastacia knew that, but she still allowed things to develop behind my back." Candid Lorraine also admits that she's no match for the superstar singer. "She has a size 8 figure and she's very attractive. I know I can't compete with her. I just hope Wayne has made the right choice. There's more to life than looks - love and loyalty to your family should come first." Lorraine and Wayne's sons are also feeling the absence of their father. "I have two very confused little boys who are desperately trying to make sense of what is happening in their lives," says Lorraine. "Max is too young to understand, but Corey is baffled by what is going on. "He used to idolise his dad and tell people he wanted to be like him when he grew up. But that's changed. Now he tells people he doesn't want to be like his dad because he's seen how upset Wayne has made me," she says. Wayne has been to visit the boys several times since he and Lorraine separated, but she says the telephone calls are becoming less frequent, and he spends most of his time over in America. "I never want to see him again and whatever happens, I don't want him back. I want the boys to see their father, but I don't want that woman to have anything to do with them," insists Lorraine. "Anastacia has torn my life and my children's lives apart. I know that I haven't got her body, money and fame, but I thought I had Wayne's love. If I had her money, I would probably have more time to look after myself and look as good as she does, but I have to go out to work and look after Corey and Max. And they are my main priority now."
