did anyone see the (red) concert earlier tonight?

I think before any positive things can be done in Africa, we need to look at the corrupt governemnts in the various countries there.... nothing will change as long as these are in power.

Why on earth, if we're eradicating threats to nations, did we not get rid of Mugabe instead of Saddam? Surely Mugabe is a bigger threat to Brits than Saddam was? He's killing and stealing from ex-pats every day - given a free reign to do so.

Also, the rise in Catholicism is extremely worrying in Africa.

The last Pope should be dug up and thrown in the litter of Rome for his shameful statements regarding contraception, which ensured Africa will be virtually wiped out in the coming decades by AIDs.

THE FULL TRUTH!!!

But as Mark Thomas so rightly pointed out corruption just didn't suddenly appear in Africa, as he said, it's not the "bribery fairy" or the "Corruption fairy" doing these things. The facts are that it suits Western Multinationals to have corrupt, authoritarian rulers in charge because then they can go in, throw some dollars around, grease the right palms, and basically get away with doing what they want... Look at Shell in Nigeria as the most obvioius example....

You are absolutely correct about the Catholic Church though, if anything is responsible for the vociferousness of HIV/AIDS in Africa then it is the Catholic Church's dogmatic and distorted "teachings" regarding safe sex... There was a trial recently in South Africa where a member of the South African govt was accused of raping a woman of HIV and he honestly thought that he wouldn't get HIV if he just took a shower after sex. And this is supposedly an educated man in Govt....

Christ.....
