Delta in fine tune for good year

http://www.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,,5341342,00.jpg

WHEN it comes to celebrating Christmas, Delta Goodrem remains a child at heart.

Back home with partner Brian McFadden to spend the seasonal holidays with her family, Goodrem will realise a childhood dream to perform at Carols By Candlelight tomorrow night.

The award-winning singer-songwriter was keeping her carol choice a secret yesterday, which was easy as she had lost her voice for most of the week because of a chest cold.

"I am massively into Christmas," she whispered.

"I've never got to do carols in Australia since releasing my albums because I've been away so much. It will be so special to share it with Brian and my family."

The pop couple arrived in Sydney early this week after enjoying an early Christmas holiday with McFadden's family in Ireland.

It was a much happier end to the year after they spent 18 months weathering scathing criticism from the British press for their relationship, which began after the breakdown of McFadden's marriage to British pop star Kerry Katona.

"That has all settled down now – they've found someone else to write about," McFadden said.

The proud boyfriend said Goodrem's much-anticipated third record, to be released in mid-2007, was a "much more adult album".

They excitedly played a track they wrote together called I Believe Again, which has Goodrem adopting more of a Dido sound.

"There's one song on there called Fever, which is a sexy, sexy song," McFadden said.

"And we just wrote a song together – the first in ages – called I Believe Again.

"We've both been working hard on our own albums but making sure our schedules are co-ordinated because it is important for us to spend as much time together as we can.

"If we're not happy at home, we're not going to get much work done," he said.

DELTA Goodrem's boyfriend, Brian McFadden, has joined the line-up for tomorrow night's Carols by Candlelight concert.

"Being Irish, I've never been in Australia for Christmas before," McFadden said yesterday, "so I don't know much about Carols but I know it's a big show."

Goodrem has given McFadden, who came to fame as a member of Irish boy band Westlife, a crash course on the importance of the event.

Goodrem has worded him up on the Melbourne tradition, which she has watched on TV but never performed at.

"I tried to describe how amazing all the candles look with everyone on their picnic mats with their family and loved ones," Goodrem said.

"He will see for himself on the night: Melbourne looks so beautiful and the Music Bowl is amazing."

Goodrem and McFadden (who will sing separately at Carols) are joined by a line up that includes Dannii Minogue, Anthony Callea, David Campbell, Daddy Cool, Marina Prior and Australian Idol runner-up Jessica Mauboy.

Goodrem and McFadden will fly to Sydney early on Christmas morning to spend the day with her family.

"Actually at the start I wasn't sure (about doing Carols) because that would mean not waking up at my home on Christmas morning," Goodrem said.

"My fondest memories of growing up are Christmas when we would wake up and the whole house would feel magical. But I love singing carols: I want to be there and experience the atmosphere, see all the people and sing."

McFadden's only live performance in Melbourne was at Goodrem's concert last year, whereas Delta's last performance in Melbourne was at the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in March.

"Melbourne holds a special place in my heart as I grew up there while on Neighbours, and so many wonderful and challenging moments were there," Goodrem said.

"I am looking forward to being back there for the first time since the Commonwealth Games."

Goodrem and McFadden will return to Melbourne for a poker tournament at Crown next month, playing alongside the likes of Joe Hasham.

Poker fiend McFadden has given Goodrem a few tips on the game.

"Delta's first tournament was a little one in Ireland," McFadden said. "She came second so that's a pretty good track record."

Goodrem is planning a family-oriented Christmas day after flying in from London this week.

"I'll be with mum, (brother) Trent and Brian. There'll be lots of giving, laughing, Christmas pudding . . ."

Carols by Candlelight airs at 9pm on Channel 9 tomorrow.

Another article on the Carols :D

Delta force

Australia's young diva Delta Goodrem is coming home for Christmas and she couldn't think of a better way to kick off the festive celebration than by taking centre stage at Vision Australia's Carol's by Candlelight on Christmas Eve.

Goodrem will return to the Australian spotlight for the first time since the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in March, performing at the Sidney Myer Music bowl in Melbourne before a sell-out crowd of more than 10,000. Televised live on Nine, the traditional festive gala will be watched by some 2.5 million viewers.

"I can't wait to see all the Melbourne gang, and all my family and friends in Melbourne and to be at Carols, performing," Goodrem says. "Melbourne is the place where it all started for me and I love being back there."

After spending the past two years working in the US, the UK and Japan, the former Neighbours star says she's thrilled to be back in Australia with her boyfriend, Westlife singer Brian McFadden, to spend Christmas and the New Year with her family and friends.

And despite topping the charts with her self-penned tunes, singing Christmas carols remains one of Goodrem's favourite pastimes.

"I love Christmas carols so much," she says. "If I could sing carols all year I would be a happy camper, because it is one my absolute favourite things to do.

"It (Christmas Eve) is one of my favourite nights of the year. I love it when the Carols come on the TV at home.

"It is so nice to be able to sing at Carols for the first time this year. I am really looking forward to the night."

And the 22-year-old does have much to celebrate, having bravely endured through her battle with cancer – Hodgkin's lymphoma – diagnosed in 2003. (Goodrem's triumphant appearance at the 2003 ARIA awards was voted the most powerful moment in the 20-year history of the event).

With that ordeal of illness now behind her, Goodrem has been busy working on her third album which is almost complete and scheduled for release next year. Since departing Australia she has also released a compilation of tracks from her first two albums in Japan. Titled Innocent Eyes, it features the song Flawed, written for the Japanese film Adiantum Blue, which hit No 8 in the international Japanese album charts.

It's been "very busy and very crazy and all within a space of three years" she says, which explains why this festive season, Goodrem just wants to have some fun.

"I want to have a very merry Christmas and be with my family and my loved ones; Brian, my mum, my dad, my brother," she says.

"I am cheeky and I like to have fun. I think that sometimes people think that I am a little serious," she says. Hopefully I will be able to remind people that I sing and I play piano and that is why they got to know me in the first place

 I know. They must be joined at the hip :P

I don't like that Delta and Brian are writing soo much together.....and is a dido sound a good thing?

Fever sounds a good song! :D

Not so sure about the Dido sounding one. And also am quite offended my Brian's 'This is much more of an adult album', because really both of Delta's albums have been quite mature sounding IMO!!!

The picture looks great though - Delta looks so happy in it too :).

So is she doing anything upbeat on this album?
I hope she does. I think it would be great.

well fever is upbeat and she has recorded "Candle In Your Heart" it's written by Jack Elliot and Jancie Robinson, but not Delta

There are also other songs written by Jack and Janice together that could possibly be for Delta.

Another Story

As Long As I

Beautiful Kindness

Feel The Love Again

Love Of My Life

Won't Let Go

Janice and Jack are a DANCE songwriting team so i guess they are upbeat songs....

hmmm i dont think Candle In Your Heart sounds like a real dancey track.... but who knows. and plus even though it has been recorded, it doesnt mean it will be on the album. but since delta has chosen to record it it must be a special songs (lyrics) im guessing like how she fell in love with lost without you. i only think this because she writes nearly all of her songs (well co-writes)

i dont think delta has recorded them other tracks, they are just new ones that have been written by janice and Jack.
