Posted April 26, 200718 yr Elvis duet with Celine Dion Last night on American Idol for the show titled Idol gives back, a charity show, there was an extra special event, Elvis dueting with Celine Dion on If I Can Dream I had heard about this but wasn't exactly sure how they would manage it and more to the point, what I would think of Celine Dion dueting with Elvis on such a special song. If I Can Dream was, of course, the finale to the '68 Comeback Special and Elvis delivers the song with so much passion  If I Can Dream from the '68 Comeback Special  1f9TBAYjyUA What happened last night was the people at the actual Kodak theater saw Ryan Pelton (an ETA) in the flesh standing next to Celine and lipsynching to the Elvis track. All of the long shots were Ryan and the back shots were Ryan. Cleverly edited with the film footage of both Elvis and Celine which was previously recorded. Elvis is not a holoram as some people have been saying. But rather cut out from the 68 special and CGI'd into the modern background with Celine. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/idolapril25th2007ql8.jpg Ryan Seacrest introduced the song with these fantastic words : "Celine Dion is traveling back to the year she was born - 1968, to sing with the man who is and always will be the Worlds Greatest Idol." :cheer: kpH7BlYsdGI and better footage here  http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=449479&fr=ybr_sbc The Elvis world is buzzing today and it's all about this song!!! I'm not the greatest Celine Dion fan but I thought she did fantastically well and Elvis’ passionate vocals still shone! We can only hope that the millions of people who see the show will see what a fantastic performer Elvis was - a true star!!! Just adding a link to an interview with EPE Media Coordinator Kevin Kern on Elvis Radio about the making of the Elvis and Celine duet ;) http://groups.msn.com/elvisinternational/g...mp;all_topics=0 Great day to be an Elvis fan!!! :cheer:
April 26, 200718 yr :o OMG how cool was that. Shame they never got to sing together for real. I bet that would have worked like magic
April 27, 200718 yr Author No If I Can Dream Release The "If I Can Dream" duet by Elvis and Celine Dion has caused a stir across the globe, newspapers call it historic, some have even stated that the Idols Give Back show was dull and was only saved by the duet. In an email sent to the Elvis Express by one of their listeners, Todd Morgan of Elvis Presley Enterprises wrote, "This was a one-time, stand-alone event for last night's Idol Gives Back special and an iTunes video download only." He also states "No release of the video on DVD is in the works." Morgan also states the that duet "came together rather fast". Source: The Elvis Express / Updated: Apr 27, 2007 And this fron the Official Elvis site: Elvis and Celine - The Stunning Duet from American Idol Our friends at American Idol wrote an exciting new chapter in Elvis history on the "Idol Gives Back" special on April 25th. Through the magic of video editing and rotoscope technology, Elvis Presley and Celine Dion performed "If I Can Dream" together. The presentation was absolutely stunning - both musically and technologically. "If I Can Dream" is about peace, brotherhood and hope for a better day. It was the perfect choice of Elvis song for the theme of the show. The Idol Gives Back initiative is all about helping children in need in Africa and the United States. The Elvis/Celine duet completely wowed television viewers and has been making the news everywhere. Today it's the number one video download on iTunes. Your purchase of the download on iTunes benefits Idol Gives Back. We congratulate everyone at American Idol who was involved in making the Elvis/Celine duet happen and we tip our hats to Celine for doing a beautiful, classy job singing with our guy. http://www.elvis.com/news/full_story.asp?id=1235 for the video You can download the video on iTunes but would love to see it on the record shop shelves so everybody can get it B)
April 28, 200718 yr Yes it's great to see our boy on TV again but where he is so cool Celine Dion just isnt, leave Elvis to sing the difficult bits where she gives her usual plastic, insincere performance. Would have been better with someone like Dolly Parton but Dolly's her own girl and wouldn't get into bed with the Las Vegas types who continue to use Elvis to make themselves money.
April 28, 200718 yr It was a fantastic performance! It was really awesome how they did it, and it really felt like Elvis was actually on stage.

It was a remarkable use of modern technology and just for a few wonderful minutes, you could actually believe that Elvis WAS back in the building :cheer:

I see where you’re coming from, Martin. Not being a particular fan of Celine (or some other female divas, I should add), I was worried, beforehand, that she might try to outsing Elvis for effect. I was relieved when she didn’t and, quite honestly, it showed how passionate Elvis was about the lyrics of this song. For me, the ultimate version of If I Can Dream, is Elvis singing this solo for the finale of the Comeback Special. It’s awesome and no one could do it better! B) One of the great things that has come from this duet, is that it will be seen by millions of viewers, who hopefully, will now see Elvis in a new light. So many people, especially the young, are stuck on that late 70s jumpsuit image of Elvis that has been so often cruelly parodied. This was a lesson by Elvis, to a new generation of wanabee singers on how to deliver a song with passion and soul. And a reminder to all of what a great performer he was!

September 9, 200717 yr Author Elvis Helps American Idol Win An Emmy With a dash of charity and some posthumous help from Elvis Presley, smash hit "American Idol" clinched its first Emmy in six years on Saturday to avoid becoming the biggest loser in the history of U.S. television's highest honors. The amateur singing contest that ranks as America's most watched TV series won its prize for outstanding technical direction for a $76 million benefit special in which producers created the illusion of Elvis performing a duet with Celine Dion.
