  2. I love Bigger. It's actually taken me by surprise. Do you know what song I think it really complements? What About Us. I feel if they'd have done an LP of tracks like 'What About Us', 'Lease My Love' and 'Bigger' that would have possibly been their best effort yet. The verses are just pure bliss. So simple yet so effective. The lyrics actually feel like they mean something, and I don't know if it's just me, but I felt like I instantly connected with the song. It feels very powerful - which is ironic considering the track itself is pretty simple. I love the production too - love what direction they've gone in. I'm loving RNB Saturdays. I feel it could have been a bit longer, maybe some ad-libs thrown in towards the end too. But, I love the track just the way it is and for what it is.
  3. Pretty bang on. Signings do not necessarily equal more sales. It might raise some publicity, but that's about it. Random people who are not fans most likely are not gonna waltz into HMV, buy their CD and get it signed. It is the fans who go to signings, and sometimes not all fans can get to signings so the most logical thing to do is estimate how many people will pay more for a signed edition of the LP and then sell it online. Everyone wins.
  4. I'm quite surprised that they didn't shove them on for Disco Week! Disco Love would have been perfect! Maybe there's a pop week coming up or something.
  5. They did The Voice in Ireland which was surprising. Hopefully that will tie them into the next series (I can already see Rochelle bribing Marvin already ;) ) Not every artist gets these shows that have that much exposure. The Wanted didn't pay 250k for a slot. That's the fee they had to fork out for a private jet back to the UK to make it for the show (I believe). But besides that, like someone else has mentioned, just because the girls don't get these kind of opportunities, it doesn't stop them from being successful. Look at The Wanted, they had loads more support for Show Me Love than Disco Love did and look what happened. The worst-case scenario is that if the girls were to get a slot and they performed and the end result was that the single they promoted had done no better than 30 Days or a single that they only did some minor promo for. That would be rather embarrassing. I don't see why they shouldn't get a slot personally, they have plenty of achievements in their careers. But then you have to look at.. who has achieved more? For example, if it was between having Katy Perry or The Saturdays on, the execs are obviously going to put Katy Perry on.
  6. They didn't promote it?! You kidding me?! They do more promo than any other group do...
  7. The album industry in general is a laughing stock right now. I wouldn't even worry one bit about them being at #90-odd. There's what, 1 copy separting each release in the bottom end of the Top 100? I'm excited that they're still going to be out there pushing the album and Disco Love. Paul loves the girls and they love Paul; it's been so long since they've performed on one of his shows. Great promotion. It's a shame in this climate there's not as many music-specific shows to promote on no more, and add that to the growing concern of radio play.. If you can get airplay then you're pretty safe. All of their radio hits have done well. It's just more difficult when radio appear to be reluctant to play you and there's not much more they can do apart from the usual daytime tv rounds. They seem to really want to sell this album though which is good news. Cheers to the next single *clink* ^_^ I don't see the theory that if you do a signing more people will buy your record. Who goes to signings? Fans. Will fans by the record with or without a signing? Yes. A signing just makes things a bit more personal. I don't really think it drums up many more sales. If people want to buy your record they will find a way.

  9. Those 'sales' are bonkers. I don't really see albums selling what they used to 5 years ago; anytime soon at least anyway.

They're in a right predicement. Not Giving Up is the obvious choice. It doesn't matter that it's not a balad, it's party season! This will smash at Christmas and New Years parties. Will deffinately get everyone 'on the floor'. It has mass appeal. The only thing that's going to scupper it's chances of actually being a single is that if Frankie is not present, they'll end up leasing her parts to someone else. Will she be 100% ready to return to their routines (not that they're that demanding these days). Finally, the girls don't seem to be behind the track that much. If they want to go down the balad route, I hope they'd go with Lease My Love. It shows a different side to them which wont have the 'Gentlemen effect' ie (open too many doors at once). It does have a slight wintery substance (I very cold and sharp video would complement the song well). If Frankie is not back in time her parts aren't too forgettable to re-record. It showcases their RnB balad side which they haven't really done since Issues. The credits alone on this should make them look 'good'. Darkchild has produced for so many legends. But again, the girls aren't backing it which is a shame as it's a beautiful song. I really don't want Leave A Light On <_<. It's nice, but it sounds way to similar to Here Standing in production values, therefore sounds dated and doesn't really offer much progression-wise compared to Not Giving Up and Lease My Love. It could have been on Wordshaker 4 years ago. I feel the track isn't very instant, it's a very slow grower and that second verse sounds terrible which is what puts me off liking it more. However the girls love it, and Frankie's not in it so easy-peasy performance wise. Afterall, we'll only get another single if Frankie's return is prompt and they can get a video out in the next 6wks which will be pushing it. I fear that if she doesn't return untill next year they'll shelf the single and re-start on another album. They gotta stop doing that!!
  11. On their Facebook that's all I ever see. "Living for The Weekend out NOW" "Disco Love out NOW"
  12. This is such a random obvservation. Has anyone else seen the promos on ITV that just say 'Saturdays ' in neon writing? It promotes the whole Saturday night entertainment for ITV but reminds me so much of The Saturdays logo and gets me excited that The Saturdays are going to be part of something huge on ITV.
  13. Haha yes!! I thought they were saying "oh feel the cameras streak in here"
  14. In 2013, album sales are not the be all and end all. 10-34 is poor, but their drops from Wordshaker and On Your Radar were far worse in a stronger sales climate. The fact that it's stable in this weeks midweeks is a positive thing. The fact they're still in the Top 40 is a good thing. It is no good comparing any sales nowadays to previous release beacuse albums just do not sell as well they used to. If people want to measure an artists 'place' in the industry, take a look at their singles or their ability to pull the punters in for live gigs. Albums are a useless way of determining an artists palce in the industry these days. If the label didn't give two f**ks about this album, they wouldn't have done half the promotion they did for Disco Love. I swear people think they just can just magic up performances on every single TV show that's going. Cosidering 'Gentlemen' put them in a bit of an awkward place, they picked it back up with Disco Love.. and because of that Living For The Weekend got them another Top 10 album. Risks don't always pay off, and in this case Gentlemen didn't, but they recovered okay from it. Had that have never happened I believe they could be in a better position right now. What they need to do next is, first of all determine when Frankie is returning from maternaty (meanwhile decide on what the next single is going to be). Shoot the video ASAP. It doesn't matter if the release is going to be as far away as January as it'll start circulating as soon as the video is out there. They're not going to film a video with a member missing, and they sure as hell wont re-arrange a track 'officialy' because they're a member short. I'm not ranting at anyone in particular. This is just a general view.
  15. In 'Lease My Love' during Mollie's verse, she sounds like Una when she sings the following lyrics "one of us was in it for the profit".
  16. I really don't want them to release 'Leave A Light On'. It's just so bland compared to other obvious choices such as Not Giving Up. I hope they don't thnk again "It's Christmas, we need to release a single, what shall we choose? Oh yes a BALLAD. We'll choose a BALLAD because it's WINTER." No no no. It doens't work for them. I know a lot of people have suggested that Not Giving Up would be better suited to a summer release (ala What About Us), but I think a winter release would do fine as well. It will be December, it is thee party season! If not Not Giving Up go with Lease My Love. They'll need a really eye-catching and visually engaging promo to go with it. Lots of slow-mo's, lots of glamour, lots of amazing backdrops and sets. They've not done this for ages. They need their edge back. All of their videos since 30 Days have been very colourful and fluffy. Lease My Love would suit a treatment something along the lines of JLO's 'All I Have', and (solo shots) from Girls Alouds 'Something New'. Throw in some abandoned-like sets, train station, empty house, warehouse. A bit of a Forever Is Over part 2 but visually brighter and less fluffy.
  17. 'You Don't Have The Right' has really grown on me. It is quite beautiful. 'Anywhere With You' should belong on Headlines or Wordshaker though. It's so sickly. 'Leave A Light On' is growing on me slowly. The only thing that's butchering it for me the second verse. Vanessa's vocals sound so forced compared to Una's on the first. She shouts most of it in the higher ranges. I love the ending how the beat drops out and then comes back in and fades out. That's my favorite bit. I'm so dissapointed that the girls aren't that entusiastic about 'Not Giving Up' or 'Lease My Love'.
  18. Let the fun and chaos begin!
  19. Leave A Light On First impressions: 7/10 Initial judgement based on preview: 5/10 This has exceeded my initial thoughts based upon the preview. At first, it sounded like a 'Here Standing' part 2, a song that I cannot stand. I enjoy this more than Here Standing as it feels like it goes more places. The structure towards the end is beautiful and does create a lot of emotion. Will it do well as a single? Maybe. Is it boring? Yes. Will it be a signature Saturdays single? No. Not Giving Up First impressions: 9/10 Initial judgement based on preview: 10/10 One of the Saturdays best tracks, ever. It's fun, it's catchy, it's signature Saturdays.. Saturdays at their best! A worthy follow-up to 2011's 'All Fired Up' for sure. The chorus is captivating with a diverse mix of vocals from the girls. Again, like 'Leave a Light On', this track has direction and the momentum is fabulous. My only niggle? The last part post Frankie's verse. A few more lyrics could have been over-layed with Rochelle's "whoah oh ah" whith a bigger croshending vocal before falling back into the explosive chorus. But most of all.. where the hell did Vanessa's ad-libs go?! Why are they still on the cutting-room floor?! That would have closed the track of nicely and gave it some final spice. Will it do well as a single? Yes. Is it boring? No. Will it be a signature Saturdays single? Yes. Lease My Love First impressions: 10/10 Initial judgement based on preview: 10/10 Like 'Not Giving Up', one of the best tracks they've put their name to. Working with Darkchild has done them wonders. It's Saturdays as we've not heard them before. What I like the most is because we've not heard them like this before, it sets it apart so much from the magority of their material. I'd say it's on another level. This and 'What About Us' go hand-in-hand together which is very good. They should deffinately carry this on for their next LP. Will it do well as a single? Maybe. Is it boring? No. Will it be a signature Saturdays single? Maybe. Anywhere With You First impressions: 6/10 Initial judgement based on preview: 4/10 My first thoughts based on the preview were that this song was pretty bad - I most disliked the cringe-worthy, child-like lyrics ("take me sky high were jumping on a plane, don't care where were land to me it's all the same" :puke2: ). The rap from the un-credited person does add a certain element to the track to make it sound less-boring and samey. I still find the song very sickly, yet ritch in texture. I find it remenicent of their previous material on Headlines which is a nice throw-back. But hopefully it will stay at throw-back and it will never be taken any further. Will it do well as a single? No. Is it boring? Maybe. Will it be a signature Saturdays single? No. Problem With Love First impressions: 8/10 Initial judgement based on preview: 7/10 It's 'Firecedays'. Mollie rapping about cars with tinted windows, so 2000's, love it. This, What About Us and Lease My Love sit very nicely with each other. Maybe they should have saved these (or saved the rest) for another LP. The pictching of Una's voice is a bit dodgy, reminds me of her vocals from Chasing Lights actually. I love how it falls back into the final chorus, nice build up of momentum. Will it do well as a single? No. Is it boring? No. Will it be a signature Saturdays single? No. You Don't Have The Right First impressions: 6/10 Initial judgement based on preview: 5/10 Some gorgeous vocals, on an ettempt to better previous tracks 'Fall' and 'Last Call', which in my opinion will not be beaten. Chasing-Lights-Una is here again; why are her vocals so deep? She sounds nothing like that. Makes it feel more like she's just saying the lyrics rather than just singing them. I like how it builds up to some flattering vocals from Vanessa and Rochelle, I just find the chorus so flat. It's just too mono-tone. On that note (pardon the pun) a nice 6/10 for them. I think they have missed the mark a little with this, being the 'signature' balad of the album. This is normally where they seem the most comfortable in balad territory. The song-writing is there, the production is sort of there, and the melody is sort of there. Will it do well as a single? No. Is it boring? Yes. Will it be a signature Saturdays single? No. Don't Let Me Dance Alone First impressions: 7/10 Initial judgement based on preview: 6/10 Tongue-in-cheek, shoes and dresses a'plenty = typical Saturdays. I like how it's very fun, in your face, bolshy and lively. Lyrical content to one side, this is fun-Saturdays! Very Headlines-esque. I would however that this would have been better off a b-side, on the condition that time is re-written and 'Wildfire' was never ever a b-side. Will it do well as a single? No. Is it boring? No. Will it be a signature Saturdays single? No. Somebody Else's Life First impressions: 6/10 Initial judgement based on preview: 6/10 The first 20-odd seconds are very decieving. It starts off sounding like a Rihanna-esque follow-up to 'We Found Love' and then this awful boring beat comes in. I love the melody of the chorus though, very infectious, just a shame about the effects smothered over the vocals and the poor production. Will it do well as a single? No. Is it boring? Yes. Will it be a signature Saturdays single? No. Final Thoughts The album as a whole is a nice package of fluffy pop sprinkled with some r'n'b tinged tracks. Not one of my favorite collections from them, but it contains some of my favorite tracks recorded by them. I do feel a bit lost with the record at times as one minute I feel like "this is classic Saturdays", then the next "Trying to re-create previous sounds" and the next "amazing amazing amazing, they need to press on with this sound for the next LP". I'd go as far to say it feels like an album to test the waters. The record in my mind should have been divided in to two. You've got tracks like 'Disco Love' in one hand, and then 'Problem With Love' in the other. They just don't sit well. I like that they're showing diversity but at the same time, it feels like the material could have either been refined more or saved for a future LP. They did so much recording since the '30 Days' and there's only a handful of quality tracks here which has surprised me. What I think the album should have sounded like: 01. What About Us 02. Lease My Love 03. Do What You Want With Me 04. Wildfire 05. Problem With Love 06. For Myself 07. Gentlemen 08. Move On U 09. Last Call Something along those lines. Or.. 01. Not Giving Up 02. Disco Love 03. 30 Days 04. Higher 05. Anywhere With You 06. Karma 07. Leave A Light On 08. I Say OK 09. Don't Let Me Dance Alone Something alone these lines. 'On Your Radar' was more cohesive in terms of sound, but 'Living For The Weekend' has more smashes. Overall I'd give it a 6.5-7/10.
  20. Leave A Light On First impressions: 7/10 Initial judgement based on preview: 5/10 This has exceeded my initial thoughts based upon the preview. 'On Your Radar' was more cohesive in terms of sound, but 'Living For The Weekend' has more smashes. Overall I'd give it a 6.5-7/10.
  21. 'Dont Let Me Dance Alone' is growing on me. It's just that God damn awful pre-chrous, "only got one life". It kills the momentum and lyrical direction from the verses. It does feel like two songs have been stuck together (and not in a good Xenomania way).
  22. Only just come across some other previews! Problem With Love sounds amazing. The opening reminds me Madonna's 'Pappa Don't Preach'.
  23. Leave A Light On Sounds like: 'Here Standing', 'Died In Your Eyes' Probabbly one of my least favorites upon first listen but it's growing on me. I don't personally like songs with this style of production which is the same reason why I was never crazy about Here Standing. The lyrics are nice though, the girls clearly relate well to these. Not entirely sure how it would stand up as a single. From the clip it doesn't sound as bolshy as their singles post Notorious (excluding My Heart Takes Over). Having said that I think it would do well on radio. Not Giving Up Sounds like: 'All Fired Up', 'Get Ready Get Set', 'Move on You' The standout track so far. Feels like a worthy follow-up to All Fired Up for sure. The production is on-point too, so colourful and the momentum is building up so well. Some brilliant pop lyrics in there too, "Got me on overload, i'll be your rock of gold, can we get overdosed on love". I love the vocal production on it too. Some great vocals have been captured, Vanessa in particular. She is sounded brilliant on this record. Her raspy tone on that middle-8 when the beat drops out sends shivers. Obvious single choice, it will do well in the charts I'm sure, and Capital will lap it up. Lease My Love Sounds like: 'All Fired Up', 'For Myself', 'Faster' This track is just magic. I wasn't sold on the demo but the finished version sounds stunning. I can't actually fault it. The production is fantastic, it keeps building to the epic creshendo of Rochelle's powerful vocal. Vocally all of them are on point too.. this is probabbly the track that has really caught my ettention when comparing to their previous material. This sounds like it has a lot more substance compared to the magority of their previous records. It's not a dance track, it's not cheesy lyrics about dressing up and going out, it's got some fantastic dyanamic lyrical hooks which previous records have lacked. This has to be a single at some point - a wasted opportunity if not. It doesn't sound like a sure-fire radio hit, but it needs to be a single just to showcase the tracks persona. Something that I think will take critics by surprise. Anywhere With You Sounds like: 'Lose Control', 'Karma', 'Open Up' Very undecided about this track. Feels like a left-over from the Headlines era. I get a bit of a 'Disco Love' vibe from it with the guitar-lead chorus. It's the lyrical content that puts me off, "Take me sky high were jumping on a plane, don't care where we land to me it's all the same". It's just dull, sickly and childish - a complete contrast with 'Lease My Love'. Problem With Love Sounds like: 'Puppet', 'Promise Me', 'For Myself' The first thing that springs to mind is JLS. It does sound like a song that was intended for JLS. Not that it's a bad thing, it's actually got some quality credentials. The chorus is very catchy, hooks-a-plenty. I like the how varied the verses are, very still and then repetitve to some 'rapping'. The vocal production is good too.. some fierce vocal takes from Vanessa again, Una too. My third favorite from the new tracks. You Don't Have The Right Sounds like: 'Fall', 'Last Call' This is the track that I'm hoping the full version will make me love this. The only thing it lacks for me is melody. It sounds very monotone and dare I say, not vocally challenging enough for a ballad coming off the back of On Your Radar's 'Last Call'. The content of the lyrics are brilliant though. Don't Let Me Dance Alone Sounds like: 'I Say OK', 'So Stupid' Torn. That is the word. Very remenicent of 'I Say OK' which the kooky lyrics. I feel like this track is better than 'I Say OK' which is good as I've never been keen on 'I Say OK'. This is the part of the record where I feel the production does slip. It's going back into Headlines territories again. It sounds flat and lacks dynamic range. The chorus is catchy for sure, it's the pre-chorus that lacks umph following on from the tongue-in-cheek verse. It's a very confusing song. Going from tongue-in-cheek and kooky lyrics to giving a nod to the late Whitney "I wanna dance with somebody". Somebody Else's Life Sounds like: ... It's at the end of the album for a reason. The production is so confusing, there's too many genre influences littered throughout the song. I think the acoustic version really baught something to the song that wasn't captured in this recording. I want to like it more but the production is again reminicent of the Headlines era. It does wrap the album up nicely though. I like that this LP feels different. It feels a lot more bright and colourful compared to On Your Radar which I found quite dark. The girls have different things to sing about which is a refreshing change. Wildfire Sounds like: 'Not That Kinda Girl', 'Ladykiller' It was a silly mistake for this to be at b-side status. And it's unfortunately been tagged onto the end of the Deluxe version of the album. It feel it's hard to place this track in a specific point on the album, but it is just simply too good to not include in the LP. The production is brilliant (It's The Alias - they've produced some amazing songs for The Sats), and again it's showing a more grown-up but fierce Saturdays sound. Overall... The Saturdays have continued to develop a strong and powerful pop record. I feel that On Your Radar was more cohesive in the terms of sound as it felt like a loaf and with it you had 12 nice chunky cuts of bread. However 'Living for the Weekend' feels like a Hovis 50/50. There's more standout tracks on this LP compared to On Your Radar but in return there is too much filler towards the end of the record. The filler is remenicent of the Headlines era in terms of production which is clear as they returned to record and brush up on left-over tracks with The Jam from the Wordshaker/Headlines era. Long gone are the days of gems on 'Chasing Lights', and I hope the girls continue to make more tracks like 'Lease My Love' and 'What About Us'. The inclusion of 30 Days feels very messy. Feels a bit like another Headlines saga all over again in a way. They show a stronger and grown-up Saturdays. I don't think my judgements will change once the whole LP is released as I have a pretty good feel for it already, but who knows. Ranking: 01. What About Us 02. Not Giving Up 03. Lease My Love 04. Gentlemen 05. 30 Days 06. Problem With Love 07. Disco Love 08. Leave A Light On 09. You Don't Have The Right 10. Don't Let Me Dance Alone 11. Anywhere With You 12. Someone Else's Life
  24. Mollie has long hair again?! First time in the 5yrs of the group where she's worn extensions?! Her shorter locks is what made her a popstar!!
  25. Haha I know! For some reason I have multiple copies of everything from the On Your Radar album, and turns out I think I like For Myself more than I thought! I do love the opening and the pre-chorus. The only thing that is a bit of a dud is the actual chorus for me.
