Sweden (Melodifestivalen) · Eurovision Song Contest 2016
Just showed the performances of Ace, Wiktoria, Robin and Frans to my bestie who laps up any pop song fresh off the radios. She thought 'Save Me' was a very tired sound, Ace had a great song but not a very good voice and her outfit was terrible, she really liked Frans and his song, she called him cute several times and was very very impressed by his voice, but her favourite was Robin - because she fancied him and be cause it sounded like Kygo whose songs she also adores. Then I showed her the big hitters for Eurovision and at the end when I asked who she thought would win she said Sweden, or maybe Russia. I think it's Frans' to lose.

They featured on the last month so, probably. Even if they don't they'll be wanting to return to grace through MF. The though of Molly och Danny will give enough nightmares until next Feb.

The Melodifestivalen 2017 Prediction Thread
I say, Presenters: A combination of a seasoned TV personality with Samir & Viktor (or just Alcazar instead please) Host cities: Stockholm, Gothenburg, Helsingborg, Kiruna, Jönköping and Uppsala (Malmö takes a year off) Returning acts: Lisa Ajax with a bop and a half, Oscar Zia, Robin Bengtsson, SaRaha, Helena Gutarra, Wiktoria, Martin Rolinski with or without BWO, Ulrik Munther, Timoteij, Stockholm Syndrome, Brandsta City Släckers, Da Buzz, Ola Salo, Mariette, Danny Saucedo with a superproduction ready to take it all and our Holy Lady of Nah. Debuting acts: The return of September (please) and some out of the talent show roster like Sabina Ddumba, Kevin Walker, Erika Selin, Simon Zion, Frida or Mimmi Sandén, Awa Santesson-Sey and Thomas Lundell. Also, probably some awful new boyband. Appropriation of foreign acts: Jedward(!), Maja Keuc (maybe?) or some Swedish act exiled in Australia Changes to the rules/show: None for this year. Other predictions worth of note: Danny Saucedo will get another 2nd place, Wiktoria or Robin Bengtsson will be a shock early elimination, Krista Siegfrids will be on the Finnish jury and the UK jury will be back to embarass everybody by obviously not giving any points to the winner and everyone's favourite: Dinah Nah, who will win with a huge record of maximum points of course -_-

The Melodifestivalen 2017 Prediction Thread
http://mensworld.se/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Christer-i-poolen6.jpg No, it's not too early. Time to speculate what will happen in a year's time. Or, if you follow Eurovision news fervently off-season, what will be announced in a few months. Presenters: Host cities: Returning acts: Debuting acts: Appropriation of foreign acts: Changes to the rules/show: Other predictions worth of note: Will they go the extra mile to secure another win?

Israel · Eurovision Song Contest 2016
Well this is much better than the hot mess it was before. As it's the only stripped back piano-led ballad on SF2 (Dami's an over-produced power ballad) I can see it qualifying with ease.

Albania · Eurovision Song Contest 2016
This is a 'serious' song completely overdone. Throw in every melody at it until it's an unrecognizable mesh. This is going to fall under the radar of both the jury and the televote so last place it is.

Oh dear, the staging for Eurovision is just going to be a rehash of that isn't it? Complete with a shot with the public behind them for the last chorus and a handshake at the end of the song. Sigh...

Still can't figure out how a construction site is appropriate for this song. You certainly can't work from home if you're a builder.

Sweden (Melodifestivalen) · Eurovision Song Contest 2016
So I was going through YouTube when I stumbled on the MF results videos and it came back to me that before 2011 the televoting points were given out to the Top 6 voted songs, as 11 - 22 - 44 - 66 - 88 - 110 - 132, instead of the respective share of the total of points from all the juries based on percentage of total vote that we have now and I wondered if results would be different using the 2011-now system. 2010 1. "This Is My Life" - 180 points 2. "Keep on Walking" - 176 3. "Manboy" - 139 4. "You're Out of My Life" - 108 5. "Kom" - 102 6. "Unstoppable" - 67 +1 7. "We Can Work It Out" - 66 -1 8. "I Did It for Love" - 45 9. "Hollow" - 42 10. "Jag vill om du vågar" - 22 2009 1. "Hope & Glory" - 150 points +3 2. "Snälla snälla" - 145 3. "La voix" - 133 -2 4. "Stay the Night" - 126 +1 5. "Moving On" - 118 +1 6. "Baby Goodbye" - 117 -3 7. "1000 Miles" - 111 8. "Love Love Love" - 54 9. "You're My World" - 42 10. "Alla" - 18 11. "Så vill stjärnorna" - 17 Perhaps surprisingly, Anna Bergendahl would still win back in 2010, although with a margin of only 4 points, with little change to the results: only Ola and Andreas Johnson would swap places. The biggest shock comes in 2009: Måns would've won that year under the current voting system, with only 5 points more than Caroline af Ugglas. "La Voix" would've felt the damage caused by its jury points by falling to third and even EMD would lose their Top 5 placing for Sarah Dawn Finer. Perhaps tellingly of tonight? Could the juries sink the public favourite once more? Mind you, 18.4% was not an overwhelming televote victory for Malena and we do expect Frans to go much higher than that. "Hero", "The Worrying Kind" and "Invincible" would still win somewhat comfortably their respective finals and of course, as it's generally known, Nanne Grönvall would've stormed to victory back in 2005 with an almost 30 points difference from "Las Vegas".

Portugal in the Eurovision: The Countdown
40 | 2004 | http://fes04.no.sapo.pt/por04.jpg | "Foi Magia" | SOFIA VITÓRIA After failing with a national superstar the year prior, RTP decides to give the finalists of their version of Star Academy a chance with three specially composed songs. But with a twist: the talent show final would simultaneously select the artist and the song for the 2004 Portuguese representation. After escaping elimination thrice, Sofia went into the final as the outsider. Her song however was the only upbeat number and so she easily walked her way to victory. Worry not, the consolation prize for both runners-up was to sing at Eurovision too... as Sofia's backing vocalists. The song itself is inoffensive sonic fluff. Quickly put together, a piece of lift music turned into nu disco via a night out in Lisbon for over 40 year-olds. No wonder it didn't wow the Europeans, and I swear you can almost see Sofia cringing everytime she sings it. Vocally she did a fantastic job, which is no wonder: she is now having released a critically acclaimed jazz album. 39 | 1977 | http://fes77.no.sapo.pt/por77.jpg | "Portugal no Coração" | OS AMIGOS Scandal, scandal, scandal! That is the only thing everyone remembers from this Portuguese entry. Firstly in the National Final: a contest drawn up for newcomers, it counted in its lineup not only a group in the height of its nationwide success but also this one, which was especially created for this occasion, whose members were famous singers and . They end up winning it but the national press didn't give them even one mention choosing to only write about the poor quality of the songs. At Eurovision it went even worse, Bill Cotton of the BBC accused both the Portuguese and Austrian entries of containing a communist message. They were once more whitewashed by the press who chose to focus on Eurovision winner. Marie Myriam, herself of , became Portugal's pride and joy instead. 38 | 2012 | http://www.eurovisioncovers.co.uk/tn/p12.jpg | " " | FILIPA SOUSA If "Senhora do Mar" was one year too late for the , then "Vida Minha" had absolutely no chance. A perennial talent show reject, Filipa found herself being invited to sing the song presumably after the originally RTP-invited composer (which was then not yet Andrej Babić) heard her singing with her . The National Final was unmemorable and so no one paid attention when this Balkan-produced pseudo-Fado number tried to ride 2008's wave. Her command of the stage was not even comparable to Vânia's and so Portugal crashed out of the Semis once more. Poor Filipa hasn't had much luck since: after featuring on a she's gone back to performing with her aforementioned Fado ensemble, which is probably for the best. 37 | 2007 | http://festivalcancao07.no.sapo.pt/por07.jpg | " " | SABRINA A victory for schlager under the guise of a small national upset, that's how Sabrina's National Final victory will go down in history. In an competition where the big favourite was a , the simple pimba production won over the public with almost double the televotes of its nearest rival, which was a very big surprise, and several former Eurovision stars declared the result to be "a joke and an insult for the Portuguese rich musical history". It all turned out quite alright in the end much thanks to the song's producer: he issued CD singles, he revamped the song, he gave it three different languages in the last chorus, he gave it his all when RTP wouldn't move a finger. And it paid off! With a reworked track and staging, smiley Sabrina missed qualification in a very competitive sole semifinal by only three points! She even did better than the , her nemesis according to the press. After Eurovision Sabrina was very busy for a while, she released her debut album, she went on a talk show , she and later in 2012 she overhauled her image and released a much lauded country album under her actual real name - Maria Teresa - of which turned out to be a big hit. Who'd have thought? 36 | 1999 | http://fes99.no.sapo.pt/Ruiba.jpg | "Como Tudo Começou" | RUI BANDEIRA The end of the 90s weren't much of note. An MoR National Final produced an MoR winner than flopped at Eurovision. What is of note, however, is the longevity of Rui's career after the contest. In Summer 1999, with MoR Pop being the new trend in Portuguese radio - Denmark only caught on - it's not really a surprise to hear "Como Tudo Começou" constantly played by radio DJs. Proving to be a smart cookie, Rui rode that wave a churned out a grand total of 11 studio albums to this day, never really becoming a household name but successful enough to pay the bills, even if he's (meanwhile Denmark to cause with their MoR). He's now to take over the family business, I only ask that is less MoR and more little pink dress.

Melodifestivalen 2016 / Andra Chansen · Halmstad (05 Mar)
I only like Bada Nakna because of the Portuguese version I've come up with for its chorus. It goes "you're a big pig but so am I" etc etc which sounds hilarious in Portuguese when sung to the beat of it. Kizunguzungu has grown on me like a rash and I actually find it quite enjoyable. Then I only like Lisa Ajax, David Lindgren, Frans, Robin Bengtson, Wiktoria and Ace Wilder. The less said about Molly's "effort" the better, it is now my absolute least favourite in this lineup. I still maintain Frans is the right song to smash Eurovision with.
