  1. I feel so sorry for Nicole :(

Why? She's doing better than ever with this solo single.

But if she didn't, she wouldn't be the first US act to have a little success on Hot 100 but a lot of it elsewhere. Despite selling millions of records worldwide, Moby has only one Hot 100 hit to date: South Side (#14, 2000).

I'm so disappointed that they will skip Finland and seems that I won't be able to see there anywhere else either due to work/other stuff

What happened to poprock as a genre anyway... Nobody does anthemic pop rock songs with giant choruses these days? It's all either manufactured and electronic pop/dance or boring indie miss the 90s so much :(

It's of course a bit of nostalgia but still

Lady Gaga knows how to make songs big: Scheisse, Bloody Mary, Hair, Yoü and I... all brilliant songs mostly because they're so BIG and remind me of 80s and 90s

I'm writing an article about this pointing out that there haven't been big instrumental hits since the early noughties.

Has there been an all instrumental (no vocals) top 10 single since 'Played a Live (The Bongo Song)' by Safri Duo? Can't recall any right now.

I'm not collecting all the top 10 instrumentals since the day one but please name some if you remember them, especially from 80s to today.

But Rihanna had three in top 10. Ok, one was with Guetta but it was a hit because of her imo.

If Gaga would have had four songs in top 10, then I'd say it would've been something extraordinary even given the business today. Now it's seems just a little higher-profile version of Glee.

  5. Once Upon A Time... was a really average album. Having just listened to it again, the first part of the album is just dire. Suburban Knights is Ok but the rest of it passes by in a blaze of mediocrity. Things do pick up a bit in the middle and I Close My Eyes and Television are pretty good songs. But Help Me Please and and the chorus of Can't Get Along are just really boring. Then We Need Love and Little Angel pick things up again before it all fizzles out with The King. And sorry Skob, this is in no way, shape or form an under-rated album.

Hmm maybe it's just that it sounds fresher than CCTV because haven't listened to it as much.

Can't Get Along is probably the weakest song on the album

Listening to it now... I believe this is the DEFINITION of underrated album.. Everybody was just trying to hate them and the horrible cover art gave them a reason to do that.. I bet nobody listened to the album at all.

  7. Really pleased for Georgia and Denmark, both finished very high up the leaderboard! Goes to show that the Lordi effect is still there, and that a quality rock song can do well in the competition.

What part in Denmark's performance was rock? :P

I loved their verses, they were quite indie though. The chorus, however... And why did he suddenly ran to the centre stage.. A total WTF moment

  8. Exactly! People go on about how the Eastern Europeans have spoilt it with bloc votng in recent years but it has always been the case that neighbouring countries are more inclined to vote for each other.....

Indeed, and isn't it just obvious that San Marino give 12 points to Italy. Their country is in the middle of Italy. It's like Manchester giving points to the UK.

I think the BBC would've thought that name alone (+ a pretty good song) would guarantee them a top 5. I just hope that the UK doesn't fall back onto the 'oh it was bloc voting' and send Andy Abrahams again next year :P.

They, like everybody else, should have the song first and then think about who is going to perform it.

If there's not a proper national final, that is. Was Andy A. chosen by public?

11th isn't really going to encourage the BBC to go for gold every year =\, back to sh!t next time?

What part of Blue was good or different enough to go for gold? Not the horrible vocals. The song was pretty good.

TATU couldn't win on name alone and neither could Blue. Both had a mediocre performance as well.

Lena's song is growing on me big time. Fantastic stuff. And I don't get people calling Italy 'awful'.. Just because it's aimed at older audience doesn't make it awful. It was classy from start to finish.

And about the draw: performing seventh probably did effect a bit to Eric's position but it could've been worse as well. I'm more surprised that Bosnia and Denmark did so well after performing 2nd and 3rd. Finland and Hungary were slaughtered by their slots.

Seems that these days it's impossible to win from the first half. It just doesn't work in the public voting. Is it because people are not really following the first ones or drunk enough or just don't want to vote until they have heard them all and thus forget the first ones or consider them worse just because they get carried away by the show?

Since 2006 there has been NO ONE grabbing a top 3 position after performing 1st to 5th.

    Winners:

    2011: 19

    2010: 22

    2009: 20

    2008: 24

    2007: 15

    2006: 17

In 2008 five out of top 10 performed 20th to 25th.

I have a suggestion...a bit silly though but interesting:

What if there were four semis and all songs were performed twice in different order during the semi and then a final of 12-14 songs and they too would be performed twice?
