    This week's notes:

Second week at #1 for 'Grenade'. It sold 245k copies and was the best selling song again this week.

I believe 'What's My Name' registered Rihanna's biggest weekly audio impressions ever. Not 100% sure about that. It was the greatest gainer in airplay.

'Jar of Hearts' by Christina Perri reached its peak approx. six months after its chart debut. It's been growing on pop radio but initially charted pretty much on sales only.

'Country Strong' is the third chart entry for Gwyneth Paltrow and the first as a lead artist. It's from the movie of the same name which opened in the US last week.

The first chart entry for Sunny Sweeney and Travis Porter. The name of the latter sounds like a country artist but they are actually a hip hop group.

  2. Yeah. As Tyler stated, it's already the most added song to radio in a day, in America ever. And I don't know if you're aware, but she's been working with Rusko on the album, however this track is produced by Dr Luke and Max Martin. Not sure if Rusko had a hand on this particular track or not, seeing as everyone seems to class it as just Dr Luke & Max Martin...

According to Wikipedia it's produced by Luke, Martin, Shellshock and Benny Blanco.

As The OCC have said - Rihanna is only the 2nd Solo Act to have UK No.1 Singles in 5 consecutive Years.

    The other Solo Act - Elvis Presley - did it for 7 consecutive Years - 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, & 1963.

Madonna would likely have achieved it had she not taken 1988 'off'. She had No.1 Singles in 1985, 1986, 1987, & 1989.

    What about duos or groups?

It bothers me a bit that solo acts are often glorified when records by bands are sometimes better than those by solo acts.

This should be the official US charts, what's the point of including airplay anyway.

Regarding Hot 100 the points coming from sales are more significant now than they've ever been since the airplay became a factor but there was also a time when practically no one even released a single and the best selling single sold just a thousand copies.

  5. Notes:

    Not much :)

'Firework' returns to #1 for fourth week. Perry's longest running #1 is 'I Kissed a Girl' (2008) which reigned for seven consecutive weeks. However, 'Grenade' sold more copies than 'Firework' again this week.

'Big Night' is the highest charting song for Big Time Rush. The tv based group had previously reached the chart once with 'Halfway There'.

Country star Sara Evans registered her tenth Hot 100 hit. She has had six songs charting songs in Top 40 but none in Top 30. Her biggest hit is Suds in the Bucket (#33, 2004)
