Coronavirus Discussion
Cases are likely to go through the roof over the coming weeks and scientists have called for immediate action such as closing of hospitality places and schools but as usual, the government have done nothing.

Coronavirus Discussion
It’s not senseless tactics imposing covid related travel restrictions. You either impose restrictions to try and get some degree of control over the virus or risk the situation getting out of control which is now likely to happen. It’s also not just the U.K. which had imposed restrictions but many other countries such as the USA and they were based on medical evidence from the spread of the virus in your country. The lack of controls here will also mean the virus is likely to spread far easier to other countries too and make it more difficult to manage. In addition, South Africa has experienced high level of crime, poverty and social problems for a number of years prior to covid so you can’t blame that solely on covid travel restrictions although it is likely to exacerbate problems to some degree.

Coronavirus Discussion
I think it’s mad they have abandoned the red list countries. It’s like the Tories have learned nothing from last time. They are so focused on vaccination aspect but that isn’t going to stop the spread of new cases in the meantime. We need controls in place to prevent people being infected such as quarantine in relation to high risk countries. Yes, it’s already spread to some degree here anyway but you will never get a proper hold on the virus without other controls being put in place. I can now see another lockdown coming in January if hospital admissions rise sharply as predicted. The government were warned by health officials that further restrictions were needed by the 18th of this month to halt a massive surge but they appear to have done the opposite. Crazy and completely incompetent!

The Tory lies and deceit thread
Well they have cancelled their official one but who knows whether they will have an unofficial one like last year. My work place are having a Christmas gathering next week in a pub despite working from home guidance being issued which contradicts this. I’m the only person not attending for obvious reasons. I’m triple jabbed but I don’t want to risk getting infected before Christmas and having to spend Christmas on my own without my other half. However, there is at least one person going who is not jabbed at all and pregnant. When I’ve spoken to her about it, she tried to justify it by saying ‘well Boris had a party, so can we’. It concerns me about the impact the governments behaviour is going to have on any future compliance with guidance / restrictions.

The Tory lies and deceit thread
The tories majority will be significantly reduced at the next election. It wouldn’t surprise me if we are back in hung Parliament territory. The reason they got such a big majority was due to support for Brexit and not so much Johnson’s popularity with the electorate. By the next election, people will realise they he is a liar, idiot and someone who cannot be trusted to deliver. In addition, people will be worse off due to the continuing impact of Brexit, tax rises which the Tories claimed they would never do and that’s not to mention the various scandals which will rock the government.

The Tory lies and deceit thread
Let’s face it. Johnson’s days look numbered given there is now going to be an investigation into his refurbishment and the scandal associated with the party during lockdown last year. Whoever potentially replaces him is unlikely to be much better as most of the other contenders are hard faced soulless people who are purely out for themselves. Even though I am not a Tory, I always thought Jeremy Hunt was a far stronger candidate during the last Tory leadership contest and suspect he would have handled the pandemic far better given his background in health.

The Tory lies and deceit thread
Other people breaking the rules is hardly a reason to try and justify it or excuse it. Government ministers are in a position of trust and breaking the rules during a National pandemic should come with consequences just like it does in other professions such as nursing, social work etc.

Christ, wish I had waited to get it for my other half. I paid £27.99 which I thought was too expensive at the time!

The Tory lies and deceit thread
That’s your opinion about it not being a resigning matter but I think there will be lots who disagree with you. Do you think members of the public who have lost relatives to covid or been in hospital seriously ill on a ventilator will find that video funny? Johnson is hardly the most honest person and his lack of openness suggests he has something to hide. He must have known about a party in his own home and why would a press secretary be seen on video joking about it if it never happened. Just like Johnson tried to cover up the Cummings incident too. Shocking and appalling.

The Tory lies and deceit thread
I’m not suggesting a confudence vote in the government, I’m suggesting a no confidence vote in the leadership so not sure if you are getting confused. I do think there will be a level of public outrage over this in the coming weeks and it’s only a matter of time before his MPs turn on him. He clearly can’t answer the allegations for clearly incriminating himself so he’s guilty as hell.
-
The Tory lies and deceit thread
How do you know that for certain that s no confidence vote in his leadership won’t change anything? You can’t possibly predict the outcome. You can’t judge the situation on past scenarios neither as covid is such a unique situation and this is likely to cause public outrage. A number of Tory MPs have told media outlets they are furious about the situation and how undermining it is. I agree Johnson leaving won’t make people comply because it’s too late now. The damage is already done by the government last time with the Cummings effect and this just reinforces it. You lead by example and when you have an absolute Moran in charge, how can you expect anyone to take you seriously!
-
The Tory lies and deceit thread
It’s hardly tittle tattle politics. The leaked video is incredibly undermining for the governments reputation - not just here but internationally. Labour need to call on a vote of no confidence in his leadership and push further for a criminal enquiry into their actions. The problem is if we have to introduce further restrictions now, how can you expect the public to comply? Johnson has flaunted the rules all along and never taken covid seriously and this is evident in their woofully inadequate approach since the start of the pandemic.
-
The Tory lies and deceit thread
The point I was making was that the Labour leaders response was pretty pathetic given the seriousness of the situation and this is the problem. No matter what the tories do and how bad things seem to get, labours response is also inadequate. Yes,I agree Johnson is unlikely to go just because Labour demand it but we need a far stronger opposition to get rid of this abysmal deceitful government who only had their own interests at heart.

The Tory lies and deceit thread
Starmer was on TV earlier saying Johnson needs to apologise and acknowledge what he has done but he was like a wet lettuce. If a party did go ahead as suspected, then how on earth can anyone have any trust or faith in this government so he needs to resign. Dominic Cummings sega was bad enough but it’s like one rule for the M.P.s and another for everyone else. From the beginning, this government has never taken covid seriously through ineffective action, delays in lockdown and multiple other incompetencies and the party is just the icing on the cake.

Coronavirus Discussion
The panic is related to the fact it’s a new variant and so much is unknown about it at the moment. As others have commented, it looks like it’s more transmissible which isn’t good news but hopefully it won’t have a more serious impact in terms of symptoms and deaths. This could potentially take us back to square one if the variant is found to evade vaccines but we still don’t know that. I think it’s best to be sensible during this uncertain period until we know more.

Coronavirus Discussion
My work are having a Christmas lunch next week. I’m the only person who isn’t going due to covid. I don’t think it’s wise right now given cases are so high and with the new variant around plus it will be busy in restaurants coming up to Christmas.
