Coronavirus Discussion
I agree the population density is much less but New Zealand had a more robust plan to manage covid from the beginning, unlike the U.K.

Not much in the T40 that I like. Deffo a sign that you’re getting older when newer music doesn’t really appeal much!

Coronavirus Discussion
If you look at other countries like New Zealand who have relatively low cases and low deaths, they have only managed this by actively suppressing the virus. I believe it is possible we could return to something more normal but that will require some form of restrictions for the foreseeable future. The alternative is utter chaos and spiralling problems caused by an ineffective and dangerous policy of allowing everything to open up too early.

Coronavirus Discussion
Essentially, we have two choices in this country. Given covid is going to be around for some time, we either accept that and live with some form of restrictions in the foreseeable future such as masks / social distancing to help keep the virus more under control. Alternatively, we follow the current government strategy which only appears focused on short term gains of reopening with all the risks of long term significant problems caused by spiralling infection rates, increased deaths / hospitalisations, risk of further lockdowns if a more dangerous variant develops, organisations having to shut down due to the knock on effect of increased numbers of staff having to self-isolate and not to mention the impact of more cases of chronic health problems and disability caused by long covid. Whatever we decide to do in this country will also have an impact on the rest of the world as we have already seen by the dramatic spread of the new delta variant. We should all bear in mind that if our covid rates continue to rocket, then we are likely to be barred from travelling to other countries, hence so called ‘freedom day’ won’t give us all the freedoms we aspire. For those people who think none of the above will happen, well it’s already started. Hospital admissions have already increased by 40% according to an article in the guardian today. In addition, cases of long covid are rising in young people. This has led to some hospitals already considering postponing non-urgent operations. With infections doubling every 10 days, these figures will only increase over time. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguard...covid-reopening

Coronavirus Discussion
Of course there will always be a portion of society who remain unvaccinated for various reasons and covid 19 isn’t going to disappear completely. That’s why, we need a more balanced and sensible approach particularly at a time when hospital admissions and infection levels are rising significantly. None of us want to be back in another lockdown in the winter but the reality is this could well happen if a dangerous new variant develops or hospitals become overwhelmed again. It is clear the government are pursing their herd immunity policy which they abandoned after widespread criticism before the first lockdown and its interesting that virtually no other countries are following this approach. I wonder why!!

Coronavirus Discussion
I think we’ll just have to agree to disagree. The governments approach is reckless and dangerous and the British medical association along with the Irish government and many other health professionals have raised concerns about the timing and removal of all restrictions. If you are going to open up further, then you at least wait until everyone is double vaccinated and case numbers are at a more manageable level and keep some mitigation measures in place such as masks.

Coronavirus Discussion
Another lockdown could well happen if a new variant develops which is more dangerous and less effective against the vaccines. This is one of the many risks with the approach being taken by the government.

Coronavirus Discussion
I disagree. It carries many risks as already highlighted and is totally unnecessary.

Coronavirus Discussion
Well it would appear they are following their original plan of ‘herd immunity’ but it carries many risks as already highlighted and is totally unnecessary.

Coronavirus Discussion
Covid is not like flu. Covid is far more contagious for one. Secondly, it’s more deadly too. Thirdly, there is also the impact of long covid which has affected people of all age groups including young people. Removing all restrictions will have a detrimental impact and lead to more deaths and hospital admissions, putting additional pressures on the NHS. 40% of adults still aren’t fully vaccinated and even if you’ve had both jabs, you can still catch covid and be unwell. The British medical association has already warned against this approach and Israel had to reinstate compulsory mask wearing in public places following a surge in cases.

Coronavirus Discussion
Lifting all covid restrictions on the 19th of July is absolutely reckless. Firstly, cases are increasing significantly along with hospital admissions rising considerably in some areas and there is still a large section of the population (mainly younger people) who are not fully vaccinated. Yes, death rates are low but while covid cases are high, this significantly increases the risks of a more dangeroys variant of the virus emerging and if this happens, then further restrictions will be needed in the future. I will continue to wear a mask in supermarkets and shops but by making it a ‘personal choice’, the government are effectively trying to deny any responsibility if it all goes wrong and will blame the public. It also gives out a very confusing and mixed message to the public!

Ed Sheeran - Bad Habits
I’m not a fan of Ed Sheeran and never have been. The only two songs I like are shape of you and castle on the hill. When I first heard bad habits, I didn’t even know it was him singing as it sounds like someone else. It’s ok song and no doubt will sell well but I just find him highly overrated for what he does!

The new song is really good.
