  1. The guitar riff that opens "Get it On" and runs through the track is one of the most instantly recognisable, and uplifting pieces of rock music in the history of pop!
  2. Anyone know how many sales the Beatles are ratching up each week now that their catalogue is available from iTunes?
  3. Like it or not, it's going to become a million seller in January, if not by New Year. I guess 700K+ first week

Sorry to mention it then. But the nation had to be reminded, lest the passage of the years had reduced the impact of this aural abomination upon the people's musical soul....

Surely I can't be the only person on the planet who literally has to get up and switch off the radio whenever Chris De Burgh starts to warble about his "Lady in Red"?

    Thanks!

Prompted by Adele's imminent membership of this exclusive club, is there a defintive list of million sellers in the forum somewhere? I've done a serach but can't find anything recent. Thanks
  8. I'm with Slowdown on this one. I was put off buying Duffy's Endlessly because the lead single Well, Well, Well just didn't do anything for me. In the end I did buy the album and I'm glad I did, because it is really very, very good. Even Well, Well, Well grew on me eventually

Duffy is a good example of second era flop. "Endlessly" virtually vanished without trace - quite astonsihing when you consider the massive success of "Rockferry." I blame the almost non-existent marketing, but most of all the choice of " Well Well Well" as the lead single - probably the weakest track on the album and not at all representative of the album's quality. I actually prefer "Endlessly" to its more successful predecessor - it's really very good indeed.
  10. Probably featured will be quite a few charity records - Band Aid, Ferry Aid, the BBC's "Perfect Day" etc., as well as a number of kid's novelty records - Teletubbies for example?
  11. Daniel O'Donnell's got to be up near the top somewhere surely?
  12. The greatest comeback / reunion of all time would have to be, surely, the wonderful ABBA?
  13. Thanks for the info about the polyhex and chartstats - I hadn't heard of them. Anyone know of any others?
  14. Does anyone know what's happening to www.everyhit.co.uk? It doesn't appear to habe been updated at all since the end of last year. I hope the guy(s) who provide the website haven't had to stop, because it's a really great resource.
  15. Lord Rockingham's XI (assuming we're accepting Roman numerals!) "Hoots mon, there's a moose, loose, aboot this hoose!"
  16. Can't stand - De Burgh's Spaceman (I can't stand CDB full stop. "Lady in Red" brings me out in a rash. Most overplayed - Jonah Lewis's Stop the Cavalry. It really has nothing to do with Christmas, apart from the line "wish I was at home for Christmas."
  17. Any chance of widening the scope slightly and adding in sales from Popstars, Pop Idol etc? I belive Will Young would then be number 1?
  18. On the subject of covers and million sellers, it saddens me to think that the magnificent Bee Gees have never had a million seller, and then along come the ridiculous Steps with a million-selling double A side that covers "Tragedy."
  19. I find it vaguely tragic that the great Bee Gees never had a million seller, but the forgettable Steps did so with a double A side that covered "Tragedy."
  20. Just a thought about the theming for this show (which is great by the way, and the updated list with digitial downloads is long overdue.) Why not just call it the biggest selling 100 of all time, rather than tag it as "top million sellers" ??
  21. Where on earth did Three Lions come from to make it on this list? I'm sure I've never seen it on the million sellers list. Surely they;re not counting re-issues like Three Lions 98 and 2010 - they're different recordings and artists!
  22. Anyone mentioned "Jilted John" by "Jilted John" yet?
  23. Honourable mentions to Lily Allen and Whitney Houston - both started off with number 1 singles and number 2 albums.
  24. The Divine Comedy - "At the Indie Disco." Released in May and disappeared without trace, despite the estimable Mr. Hannon doing lots of promo. I bought it!
  25. It was an utterly fabulous radio show - even allowing for Tony Blackburn! Even the songs I thought were "naff" at the time (e.g. Engelbert, Ken Dodd) were enjoyable with the inclusion of a haevdy dose of nostalgia. They really don't make 'em like this any more!
