38 (--) Alyssa Reid feat. Jump Smokers - Alone Again (38) [1 wk] - It was a tough choice between this and M.I.A for the vote, I ended up going for this, I really love Alyssa's voice on it, and I'm pleased it isn't plummeting hugely from #2 as of yet. Definite 1-weeker for you then, I guess.

    39 (33) Ed Sheeran - Lego House (02-01-01-01-01-01-03-06-07-09-17-22-29-33-33-39) [16 wks]

    Excellent chart! :D

    Cheers Issac :D

02 (--) Donkeyboy - City Boy (02) [1 wk] - I did really like this at first, the bridge is lovely, but on repeated listens it gets quite formulaic. Not surprised to see you liking it though. :D

Formulaic? :o I can think of other tracks that I would regard as more "formulaic" and those songs wouldn't come close to my top 40. :kink: I think 'City Boy' is brilliant, yes the lyrics aren't revolutionary but sometimes it's not the lyrics that make the song. In this case, I like the track for its melody, the catchy chorus and the production on the track. As I've mentioned earlier in this thread, it does remind me very much of Pet Shop Boys which for me is a great compliment from a pop music perspective.

14 (17) Redlight - Get Out My Head (17-17-14) [3 wks] - I find myself already being impressed with this run. It is a grower, isn't it?

Have to admit, I didn't think this would climb after it stalled at no. 17 for a second week. There's just something I really like about this track. It's retro 90s dance vibe appeals to me as that was the type of music I liked back then. It therefore sounds bizzarely fresh and unique when surrounded by "generic club bangers". Do I think Redlight will climb again next week? Not really...

19 (--) M.I.A. - Bad Girls (19) [1 wk] - A good comeback from M.I.A, I might be tiring on it already though, it's not as good as Paper Planes, and I can see you don't think that either... I'm still hoping it gets some sort of success.

'Paper Planes' was brilliant and peaked at #3 in my chart way back in early 2008. I've just gone into my chart archives (ie; Haven Forum :D ) and this was my top 10 the week 'Paper Planes' entered:

    01 (--) Goldfrapp - A&E (01) [1 wk].

    02 (01) Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor (01-01-02) [3 wks]

    03 (--) M.I.A. - Paper Planes (03) [1 wk]

    04 (02) Kelly Rowland - Work (Freemasons Remix) (02-02-04) [3 wks]

05 (05) Mark Brown feat. Sarah Cracknell - The Journey Continues (05-05) [2 wks]

    06 (03) Adele - Chasing Pavements (01-01-01-03-03-06) [6 wks]

    07 (07) Kylie Minogue - Wow (07-07) [2 wks]

    08 (08) Duffy - Rockferry (30-30-20-13-08-08) [6 wks]

    09 (04) Kanye West feat. Chris Martin - Homecoming (04-04-09) [3 wks]

    10 (06) Britney Spears - Piece Of Me (21-16-09-06-10) [5 wks]

'Bad Girls' has been a grower of a track - I heard it towards the end of last week but it didn't have any immediate impact so failed to chart last week, and didn't make my pre-release chart. So it's done well to enter at #19 this week.

Interestingly, just like 'Bad Girls' this is another track I just didn't get the appeal of at first and seeing 'Alone Again' as a midweek no. 1 was quite gutting for me considering 'Titanium' was looking like it would stall at #2. I don't mind this track but like I've posted elsewhere, the chorus really lets the song down - and for me, the chorus is the star of the song. If the chorus is lacklustre, it doesn't matter great everything else is. It's like a massive anti climax. Another example being 'Feel So Good' by Calvin Harris. The way it builds up it sounds like going to be brilliant when the beat kicks in, but when it does it just sounds limp and lifeless to me. :(

  2. I'd like to think JLS have bombed in the US because, let's face it, their singles since 'One Shot' have been atrocious. If 'Everybody In Love' (easily their best single imo) couldn't help them crack America then none of their latest singles will even compete.

'What Makes You Beautiful' and 'Glad You Came' are decent pop singles. I'm not a fan of either The Wanted or One Direction but will give them credits for these two tracks. Although that's moreso down to the record company getting them those tracks in the first place.

I'm gobsmacked at how fast One Direction have taken off on iTunes. I'd be even more shocked if 'WMYB' became the highest debut entry in the US chart beating the #11 entry for 'Wannabe' by Spice Girls. Surely it won't enter higher, but if its airplay hasn't even started yet we might see 1D #1 in America in the next 2/3 weeks. :o

The British pop invasion of America start(ed in 2011 with Adele)s here... :D

35 (20) Swedish House Mafia Vs Knife Party - Antidote (07-13-20-35) [4 wks] This has finally really clicked with me, shame to see it falling so quickly for you!

    Great chart as usual!

    Cheers Charlie :D

03 (03) Flo Rida feat. Sia - Wild Ones (03-03-03) [3 wks] Think I might prefer this to "Good Feeling" now, shame it's not looking like it'll do quite as well

I already think this is better than 'Good Feeling' although there probably is a slight bias towards having Sia featured on the track. Not write off this song just yet - it's holding up well on iTunes so might even reclimb back into the UK top 5 this Sunday.

06 (07) The Black Keys - Lonely Boy (12-07-06) [3 wks] Have you heard next single "Gold On The Ceiling"? It's good, although not "Lonely Boy" or "Tighten Up" good

No, I've not heard the new single as yet. I'm still very much enjoying 'Lonely Boy' which grabbed my attention thanks to this doing incredibly well iin Australia (I believe they're Australian which might explain a lot!!! :D ). Still, this is an excellent rock song and it's a shame a track like this can't be a UK hit - even if it was just top 40.

10 (--) Madonna feat. Nicki Minaj & M.I.A. - Give Me All Your Luvin' (10) [1 wk] The chant is catchy as hell, overall it's just a really fun track. Perfect comeback really

It is a really fun track but Nicki Minaj is one of those artists who I find both interesting but irritating at the same time. The only track where I've liked her featured vocals are on 'Turn Me On' (if it is all completely autotuned) and 'Where Them Girls At'. Her rap on 'GMAYL' grates slightly but not as badly as on the Britney remix of 'Till The World Ends' which is appalling.

35 (20) Swedish House Mafia Vs Knife Party - Antidote (07-13-20-35) [4 wks] This has finally really clicked with me, shame to see it falling so quickly for you!

It's had the complete opposite effect on me. It had such a big impact on first listen. It wasn't like their previous single which may be the Knife Party involvement - it just seemed much more "in yer face" and the music video (director's cut) made for interesting viewing. However, it's one of those songs that just seems to have lost its appeal with me. It was my pre-release chart #1 but even that week ended up charting here at #7 so the signs were already there that I wasn't as into the track as I had the previous week.

  5. Hey Hits :D

37 (--) Sub Focus feat. Kenzie May - Falling Down (37) [1 wk]

38 (--) Alyssa Reid feat. Jump Smokers - Alone Again (38) [1 wk] I take it you weren't best pleased that this went all the way to #2 in the UK?

    Cheers Richard :D

02 (--) Donkeyboy - City Boy (02) [1 wk] Wow :o Major BJSC points for this from you then? Next to Ambitions this is limp for me sadly :(

Donkeyboy already had the edge due to 'City Boy' entering the HIT30 therefore meaning the track could qualify for my chart. I think it's a great track and reminds very much of Pet Shop Boys - the style of the song, the sheer catchiness of the chorus and even the tone of the male vocalist in similar to that of Neil Tennant. It received my 10 points so you can probably have a good idea where my 12 pointer is likely to peak... ^_^

05 (--) Will.I.Am. feat. Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez - T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever) (05) [1 wk] So relieved that this didn't challenge Gotye or Guetta for the top two like I feared!

I think 'T.H.E.' has proved that held back releases are not always a good idea. Especially these days when people hear a song and they want to buy it then, not 6 weeks later when they're bored of the song and have already moved on. I still think this could have given Cover Drive a run for their money had this been released 3 weeks ago.

11 (15) David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium (04-03-03-05-06-07-06-08-09-11-12-17-19-22-24-26-29-31-26-22-27-16-21-21-15-11) [26 wks] What a revival, almost top ten again :P

I know!!! :o 'Titanium' is such a mammoth track and these last two weeks have been fantastic in terms of UK #1 singles. I'm usually all for seeing tracks spend a couple of weeks at no. 1 to prove they're worthy but with this and Gotye's track climbing to no. 1, in these cases they've accumulated their sales over a period of time peaking hitting the top spot. I was absolutely delighted to see Gotye #1 on Sunday - never thought I'd see it happen officially. As I posted on Sunday, it was always wishful thinking. :D

19 (--) M.I.A. - Bad Girls (19) [1 wk] Where did Paper Planes peak in your chart, out of interest?

'Paper Planes' is easily M.I.A.'s biggest hit in my chart peaking at #3 way back in early 2008.

32 (--) Sean Paul - She Doesn't Mind (32) [1 wk] Another big Euro hit for him but as usual, I can't really understand why

Hmm, it's alright. Not as good as 'Got 2 Luv U' but overall I've never really been that much of a Sean Paul fan. His success in 2003 astounded me because apart from 'Get Busy' (which in the context of a novelty song is good) I didn't like any of his other hit singles. 2003 was an incredibly bizzare year for music.

38 (--) Alyssa Reid feat. Jump Smokers - Alone Again (38) [1 wk] I take it you weren't best pleased that this went all the way to #2 in the UK?

No, peaking at #2 is justified. :P I had this gut feeling Alyssa would become one of those flash in the pan UK #1 artists who had a quick no. 1 single, drop down the chart like a lead balloon and never have another hit anywhere near as popular. I may be proved wrong but that's my impression. I still think the chorus to 'Alone Again' is incredibly lifeless and dull - the bridge (the bit before the chorus) is actually pretty decent though. However, for me a good bridge doesn't make a good song. :P That's why it's just scraped into my chart this week. It deserved at least one week in the lower region of my chart.

    Great chart :D

    Cheers Tom :D

    Hi Chris, I like:

10 (--) Madonna feat. Nicki Minaj & M.I.A. - Give Me All Your Luvin' (10) [1 wk] (my pick of course )

Madonna's done fairly well so far to enter at #10. It may climb to a new peak but personally I don't see this going anywhere near my top spot.

17 (--) Maverick Sabre - No One (17) [1 wk] (shame this looks like flopping, he's a great artist)

Well, 'No One' reminds me of Plan B whose album 'The Defamation of Strickland Banks' from 2010 was easily one of my fave albums of that year - if not my overall fave. I've not really taken to Maverick Sabre in quite the same way but this is his highest peaking single so far in my chart. His album sold relatively well last week with 44k.

26 (12) Jess Mills - Pixelated People (12-26) [2 wks] (ouch, big fall, though I know it's not your favourite song of his)

Yeah, this track has quickly fallen out of favour with me. I hardly played the track myself and didn't hear this anywhere else. In fact, I don't think I've seen the music video once on TV.

I really don't see any connection at all between the intro of 'Give Me All Your Luvin' and 'Beautiful Stranger'. They don't sound anything like each other to me.

  8. Congratulations on your well deserved 7th place

And very :D at your national newspaper forgetting to include the results of THE prestigious BJSC awards!

I like reading The Daily Hits either way, though, and today was a particularly great edition ^_^

    Thanks Freeze :D

Yes, "forgot" can be translated to "being lazy and couldn't be bothered updating own thread" At least everything is up to date as of now.

Glad you like The Daily Hits. It's only 20p to buy at our local newsagents. ^_^ (beats The Sun every time!!! )

    Thanks Draper Dudee :D

  10. With BJSC getting bigger with each month, I think realistically if I can remain as one of the top 20 most successful nations in 2012 then at least I've managed to be a bit consistant following my 11th place in 2011. I don't think I'll ever be able to compete with the likes of FSR Rontvia, Ashton, Numayania and Kopečka who are bound to be comfortably inside the top 10 of 2012. To be top 10 at the end of 2012 would be incredible.

My style will remain the same - pop with either indie or dance influences.

It's the start of the 2012 BJSC voting season and the early frontrunners are Numayania who top the poll following the 6 points awarded to them for their entry The Storm 'My Crown'.

However, special mention must go to FSR Rontvia who currently stand in 2nd place on equal points following our 12 points for their entry 'Flares' by Prance Faris. However, Numayania have the advantage purely because they've received the same amount of points but in more contests (albeit only just!!! :o ).

Fljótavík round off a top 3 all benefitting from collecting points this month. Foxes 'Youth' was awarded 8 points from Batidas - a small contribution that helped them towards a debut win in BJSC. It was nonetheless a closely fought battle at the end between Fljótavík and Ashton to claim victory.

Speaking of Ashton, the early favourites to win BJSC, were represented by Tone Damli Aabarge 'Look Back'. Batidas awarded their entry 2 points - enough to see Ashton moving back up a place to #6 in our Most Voted For list.

Unovia take another step closer towards the top 10 after collecting 4 points from Batidas for their entry Dia Frampton 'Billy The Kid'.

ChrIseland score their most successful entry yet as Batidas award Donkeyboy 'City Boy' our 10 points pushing ChrIseland up 16 places into 13th place.

N-Lazone also score their most successful entry to date with their entry 'Amnesia' by Ian Carey featuring Rosette, Timbaland & Brasco. Batidas awarded 7 points to N-Lazone pushing them sixteen places up our Most Voted For list into 17th place.

One place below at #18 are Séyetana climbing 12 places following the 5 points awarded to their entry Nightwish 'Turn Loose The Mermaids'.

New to the poll are Syndare (35th) and Ramrynia (42nd).

Last night all attention was drawn to Greenfroze as they played hosts to BJSC XLI with an incredible showcase on display. In a nailbiting final throughout and right up until the final set of votes were announced, The Daily Hits are thrilled to announce that Batidas finished 7th on the overall scoreboard.

Our thanks go to Cherry, Goldie Foxx and Dyna Mink (collectively known as Studio Killers) for putting on a very entertaining performance of their entry 'Ode To The Bouncer'. The performance certainly paid off as we also just managed to collect over 100 points. The Daily Hits tried to interview Cherry at the aftershow party but she was too bladdered to talk and could barely string a sentence together.

  14. Totally deserved Richard. :D

I'm also glad that you smashed that glass ceiling for dance music and raised the bar to 3rd place. :D

Now that my votes have been revealed I suppose I can make up for lost time by saying how brilliant I think 'Flares' is. European dance music is something I've always liked but can pick out the gems from the really dodgy Eurodance tracks out there, and 'Flares' rises to the top.

No doubt it'll be big in my personal chart (when the instrumental trance kicks in... *.* *.* )
