  1. I remember reading (maybe on Cool Clarity back in the day) that Busted's debut album had sold over 900k but hadn't sold a million. Considering the...erm..."quality" of their musical output, one begs the question; how?!!! :D
  2. It seems rather conclusive :heehee:

I've not read through this thread but I can only assume someone has already mentioned 'Telephone' would is easily the biggest example of how a music video can boost the sales of the song.

'Hold It Against Me' has premiered but the video is nowhere near as spectacular as I was expecting considering all the hype. It'll probably boost sales for the song but I think it's safe to say 'HIAM' is not going anywhere near #1 now in the UK.

However, there is still the video premiere of 'Born This Way' this weekend/next week so if it's a spectacular work of art (like 'Telephone') rather than a limp wristed drama smilie (like 'Alejandro' was!!! ) then 'BTW' could easily benefit and get a big boost in sales.

I just realised that someone has "null voted" in the poll.

  3. I don't think it's better than Tom Dice's song but it's a great entry from Finland, I've been listening to it a lot this week  Lose Control is my favourite though - after two years it's STILL my ringtone, and I won't change it as everyone knows it as mine.

'Lose Control' Criminal that they ended up finishing last in 2009. :drama: Based on song alone, it was my #1 Eurovision track of the year just edging out 'Is It True'. Yes, I'm one of the 0.00002% of people who didn't think 'Fairytale' was all that but it later grew on me.

Anyways, listened to this 'Da Da Dum' song and it's...odd. 'Me & My Guitar' was a much better song imo but there's still plenty of time for this song to grow on me.

So far I'm underwhelmed with the winning entries I've heard so far. Even Norway's entry hasn't grabbed my attention in a "this is great" way although it blates pisses all over Basshunter 'You Raise Me Up'.

  4. Is 'Born This Way' really down to #8? I know iTunes has a 48 hour rolling chart so if that's the case then hardly anybody has been buying the song in the last 24 hours for that to happen.

Looks like it's definitely wrong judging from others comments.

  5. iTunes is gonna be quite unpredictable over the next 48 hours - could Adele get the top two positions on iTunes with both versions of 'Someone Like You'?

Could 'Born This Way' benefit from the Grammy performance which is broadcast tonight?

Will Jessie J benefit from the weekend effect on Friday night and get a boost in sales come Saturday?

I think it's safe to say these will be the top 3 singles on Sunday but I haven't a clue at the moment what the order will be.

  6. Typical buzzjack....

"Oh I love that song, #1 please!"

    2 weeks later...

"I hate that song, so bored of it now.....PLEASE DROP OUT! (insert new song) FOR #1!!!!!!!!!!!

It's like we're living in the musical goldfish bowl. As soon as a song is 2 days old, people are bored of it.

  7. I don't want PT to be number 1!!!!!! HATE IT NOW!!! C'mon Adele superpass the stupid PT to number 1, she's far away or what???

'Price Tag' has been around for three weeks and you hate it already? I wonder how you would've felt back in 1991 during Bryan Adams' reign of sixteen weeks at #1

  8. Did they release 'Forget You!' by Cee Lo Green & Paloma Faith or did they decide against it after realising that it just didn't work on the night?

Fantastic for Adele, and I think the record company should just allow music channels to play Adele's Brit performance as the official music video (like 'You Got The Dirtee Love' last year) but also get radio stations to support the album version. There is so much potential right now for 'Someone Like You' to be a massive hit but it all depends on how fast the record company react to the buzz surrounding the track.

So once again it looks like it'll be another potentially exciting top 3 come Sunday. I just hope people don't start posting sales figures at 17:00pm on Sunday and completely ruin any element of excitement there could actually be. -_- (well, there's always one who think they're clever but ultimate they fail big time!!! ).

  9. I'm all for Jessie J climbing back to no. 1 on iTunes purely because it'll be the first time in ages where we've had a genuine #1 single that gets to the top and stays there (in the case of 'Price Tag' increasing its sales) <--- not counting 'When We Collide' by Matt Cardle.

Then again, 'Born This Way' could go 03-02-01 as the video is released next week which is bound to boost sales of the single. Three weeks at no. 1 for 'Price Tag' would be reasonable without outstaying its welcome (unless of course you're musically impatient, get bored of songs within minutes of hearing it for the first time and prefer to see a new no. 1 on iTunes every 10 minutes!!! -_- ).

  10. well, I can't see Cee-Lo and Paloma's version of Forget You taking off like FloDiz did :kink:

As much as I love 'Forget You!', Paloma Faith really didn't do the song justice - her harmonising vocals in the chorus just sounded really awkward and out of place.

  11. I think its too late for Price Tag to get the number 1. Gagas lead was huge at the start of the week and will be hard to catch

According to the midweeks, Lady GaGa is 9k ahead after two days sales so it could be much closer than people may expect.

  12. Go go Jessie J, get your third week at #1, you can do it, I know it. If she overtakes GaGa tomorrow she has a shot.

After The Brit Awards tonight, there could be a lot of change this time tomorrow on iTunes.

Jessie J 'Price Tag' - assuming this is what Jessie J is performing (not the horrid DILAD -_- ). Apparantly all performances are to be released to iTunes so the extra Brits Live version will boost sales, but 'Price Tag' (studio version) will no doubt get a boost too.

Adele 'Someone Like You' - again, assuming Adele performs this it could shoot up iTunes having already made the UK top 40 purely people cherry picking the track off the album. Or perform 'Rolling In The Deep' to give her current single a nice little boost. I suspect Adele's album '21' will benefit mostly as it's already selling like hot cakes.

Cee Lo Green & Pamola Faith 'Forget You!' - The "big duet" which can either be great ('You Got The Dirtee Love') or a complete car crash (The Ting Tings Vs Estelle). It'll be released to iTunes regardless and will sell relatively well - if it turns out to be an incredible performance, the instant Euphoria off the track could sell this top 5 by tomorrow evening.

Rihanna 'S&M' - already top 10 on iTunes with the 'Come On' version just outside the top 40. This performance is rumoured to be spectacular so will no doubt give Rihanna a sales boost especially when the Brits Live version also available to download.

Take That 'Kidz' - I'll be surprised if they perform 'The Flood' so this seems like a more likely song to perform plus it's their new single and it needs some type of promotion to even become a top 40 hit, yet alone a top 10 hit.

  13. +5 Jessie J ft. B.O.B. · 'Price Tag'

+4 Adele · 'Rolling In The Deep'

    +3 Bruno Mars · 'Grenade'

+2 Lady GaGa · 'Born This Way'

+1 Taio Cruz ft. Kylie Minogue/Travie McCloy · 'Higher'

-1 Diddy - Dirty Money ft. Skylar Grey · 'Coming Home'

    -2 Ke$ha · 'We R Who We R'

    -3 Enrique Iglesias ft. Ludacris & DJ Frank E · 'Tonight (I'm F***in' You)'

    -4 Chris Brown · 'Yeah 3x'

-5 Chipmunk ft. Chris Brown · 'Champion'

  14. Go Hurts :w00t: Hope they're top 10 next week. Heard someone with Broken Angel as a ringtone on a train back from Birmingham yesterday

That must've seemed a bit random unless there are others in the UK following the European music scene as well as us here. :D

Hurts doing slightly better this week compared to last week - here's their weekly European chart stats:

    #1 Poland (non mover)

    #3 Latvia (down 1 from #2)

    #3 Luxembourg (up 5 from #8)

Me too. The very first time I heard 'Champion' I thought "what is this crap? :manson: " and it was purely based on Chris Brown's awful wailings in the introduction. I find it funny when others post comments like "OMGZ, champion is da best, chris brown sounds soooo gud". I think "just...no!!!". :D

09 (--) JLS feat. Tinie Tempah - Eyes Wide Shut (09) [1 wk] Back to back Tinie Tempah songs in your top ten! He's on top form at the minute!

    10 (--) Tinie Tempah feat. Ellie Goulding - Wonderman (10) [1 wk]

Indeed. Who'd have thought this a year ago when everyone was predicting 'Pass Out' to be a UK #1 contender (except me who predicted low top 20!!! ). Have to admit, 'Written In The Stars' was definitely a major turning point but I realised that was down to Labrinth as he produced 'Pass Out' and 'Frisky', both of which just didn't impact me whatsoever when I first heard them. Admittedly, I like 'Pass Out' more now than I did a year ago.

16 (--) Wynter Gordon - Dirty Talk (16) [1 wk] Weird that this has had no promo in the UK but is a #1 in Australia :o

There's probably been other hits that have been no. 1 in Australia that seemed like they would have the potential to crossover to the UK but ultimately bomb. This is Wynter Gordon's first top 20 hit in my chart. It's not that bad but I don't think it's brilliant - it's quite surprising that a song like this has done so well in Australia.

22 (--) Eric Prydz - Niton (The Reason) (22) [1 wk] Nowhere near as good as Pjanoo, no surprise to see it flop although I didn't quite expect it not to make the top 40!

Yeah, this is Eric Prydz lowest charting single for me. The male vocals sound slightly bored and tired as if the singer isn't even remotely interested in what he's singing. 'Pjanoo' has been Eric Prydz's biggest hit in my chart to date topping my chart for two weeks, followed by 'Call On Me' (#5) and 'Proper Education' (#11).

  18. Thanks Hits :D Yes I've heard (and bought) Born This Way. I don't see it dominating as such, but it should muster a top 10/20 debut, I really like it but it's no Bad Romance.

Well I like that type of pop, and Same Difference's album is fantastic - also this means that you didn't listen up as far as the key change - which is amazing :P

'Born This Way' is gonna be massive this week all over the world - will be interesting to see where Lady GaGa charts in other countries when the new singles charts are published. Also #3 in the UK with just 34 hours sales - selling 64k too. :o That's the fastest selling single since the Comic Relief single in 2007 (The Proclaimers) which also went in at #3 before climbing to #1. Co-incidentally The Proclaimers and 'Just Dance' debuted at #3 then topped the UK chart for three weeks. I wonder if 'BTW' will do the same as I'm sure they won't hold back the world premiere of the music video. They need to release it asap to maximise the songs full selling potential.
