  1. Can anyone (Fresh? Dre?) confirm if this is the official Luxembourg digital sales chart? Click HERE for link.

Judging from that chart and looking at the "LW" positions, am I right in guessing the chart below is the correct digital chart and that their chart is next weeks digital chart?

    01. Adele - Rolling In The Deep

    02. Bruno Mars - Grenade

    03. Black Eyed Peas - The Time (Dirty Bit)

    04. DJ Team - Mr Saxobeat

    05. Taio Cruz featuring Kylie Minogue - Higher

    06. Martin Solveig featuring Dragonette - Hello

    07. Der Graf Von Stein - Geboren Um Zu Leben

    08. Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are

    09. Milk And Sugar Vs Vaya Con Dios - Hey (Nah Neh Nah)

    10. Katy Perry - Firework

  2. Woo for Sheelah  Surprised Adele's only 100 points adrift of #1, I'd expect Britney's big comeback to be 300/400 points clear at this point.

I think both tracks are equally strong although Adele had the edge in my personal chart.

  4. Do people not think that Westlife are simply not relevant to the music industry anymore? The only reason why 'What About Now' did so well initially was because the original by Daughtry was being heavily used on The X Factor during the audition stages. Then Westlife recorded their version using the exact same backing track to fool the naive British public.

Like Electro Paradise has rightly pointed out, nobody takes Westlife seriously. Apart from the loyal fans, ordinary music lovers just don't see any appeal in Westlife whatsoever.

Eventually Westlife will either grab that #11 smash (like Girls Aloud). Or won't release singles in future, just albums and have all the album tracks "album only" so people can't cherry pick them to get them a UK #24 hit. It's sad, pointless and typically Syco. (and personally I think it's absolutely fabulous!!!)

  5. I'm really struggling to get into this track. I checked out Olly's album on iTunes and listened to the previews as I was impressed with 'Please Don't Let Me Go' and 'Thinking Of Me'. However, none of the ballads stood out from their 30 second previews and having heard 'Heart On My Sleeve' several times thanks to seeing the video on The Box, I just don't think the song is that good. I suppose it's good for Olly to show his "softer" side but judging from the above comments, they've missed a trick and should've chosen another ballad to release as third single.

Anyways, don't think this will be as big a hit besides his album has already sold a lot.

  6. I can't imagine Fight For This Love getting to #1 in the US, so it definitely would be a shock!!

Looking at Cheryl's singles, I can't actually see anything that I can imagine being a US #1, although I think all of them could get into the top 100 if they got decent airplay over there (apart from perhaps The Flood, and Parachute).

If she wants a #1 there, she'll have to get some new material, for sure. She actually got offered Break Your Heart by Taio Cruz, but she turned it down, and then that got #1 in the US. She must be SO gutted about that! :o

Well, she has the Will.I.Am. connection so perhaps they would release '3 Words'. I'm not even a fan of Cheryl Cole but she could potentially be successful in America.

  7. I wouldn't rule out 'Hello' by Martin Solveig. It's even done well in New Zealand where dance music hardly ever does well in their charts. Plus, it's got an interesting music video concept.

As we already know, Simon Cowell has taken The X Factor to America. There were reports that Cheryl Cole would become a judge on the US version. I'd probably laugh if Simon successfully launched Cheryl's solo career there (well, I guess money does talk after all - Europe!!!) so 'Fight For This Love' to be 2011's shock US #1.

  8. Hitstastic - many new entries this week, but believe me, the digital chart is just as slow  But more relevant obviously

I hope that more artists start to release singles simultanously internationally, like 'Hold It Against Me' was. I wonder whether the same will apply with Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull 'On The Floor'. It probably won't have the same immediate impact but could still do very well initially.

  9. The people of France buy cds or download tracks from iTunes. They don't buy airplay - they're forced to listen to what radio stations decide is "relevant" (like Radio 1 hahahaaaa!!! :kink: ). I agree that additional album sales is fair enough if this represents album tracks being cherry picked from iTunes as again these are tracks being bought by the people of France.

It's just the airplay factor that distorts popularity. Like in the UK, just because It's popular with Radio 1 doesn't mean it'll be popular with the general public. Look how many singles A-listed on Radio 1 have bombed over the years. Why? Because nobody cares about those songs enough to actually buy them.

  10. So many new entries!!! :w00t:

Excellent move from France - thought I'd never see the day. Now we finally have a French singles chart representative of France. :D

As for the whole "airplay" argument, I think the US Billboard chart circa 2002-2006 is living proof that adding airplay into a singles chart is not a good thing. Remove the airplay (radio stations can be far too biased) and just allow the actual record/iTunes buying public decide which single is going to be no. 1 instead. :D

    On a final note:

61 05 04 Enrique Iglesias Feat. Nicole Scherzinger - Heartbeat

77 07 14 René La Taupe - Tu Parles Trop

    OUT 10 07 Be Wiz'U - Génération T.e.x.t.o

    ^ Genuine LOL

  11. do people really think Jessie J will stay there for four weeks or over? I can't see it tbh, maybe 2 or 3, the BRITs will obviously help it

I'm not sure what Champion will do, it will either be number 1 or top 5- it depends on how quickly it climbs on sunday, but I'm pretty sure Lady Gaga can go straight in there when released- unless theres zero promotion apart from her name, I'm pretty sure Bad Romance was different circumstances anyway?

I hope so. :( Or at least just to keep 'Champion' off the no. 1 spot.

If 'Champion' is looking set to be a hit ** shudders ** then I hope it peaks at no. 2 before the inevitable tail off. Jessie J is bound to continue selling well over the next few weeks and like you mention The Brit Awards will provide a nice boost. Then there's the album release which would see the album track (even if it's the same version) being cherry picked. I wouldn't be surprised if 'Price Tag' is one of the top 10 biggest selling singles of 2011.

  12. And actually, we're probably never going to get songs selling 150,000+ like those ever again (apart from charity songs and X Factor songs).

It was 'Fight For This Love'. Thing is, Westlife were never massive selling artists - especially in their early days. Out of four UK #1 hits in 1999, only 'I Have A Dream' sold enough to end up inside the top 40 biggest selling singles of that year.

  13. Westlife have 14 No.1's. . . . . hahahaha. . .

Thank goodness they introduced download sales into the main singles chart. I'll be gobsmacked if Westlife score another UK no. 1 ever again. In Ireland, maybe - but the UK? Gobsmacked.

  14. :(

I really hope 'Champion' isn't no. 1 as Chris Brown sounds terrible on the track. Just listen to his hidious vocal gymnastics at the start of the song (ie; some people wait their tttuuuuurrrrrrrrrrnnnnn). :drama: Sounds like some production team member decided to have fun with the pitch control. Awful. -_-

Then again, I'm not the biggest fan of Chris Brown anyways. He always sounds so strained when he sings, it's painful to listen to.

Nice to see Britney still in top 2. Voted for Let It Rain, really like Melanie's part!

    Cheers Nick :D

10 (--) Tinchy Stryder feat. Melanie Fiona - Let It Rain (10) [1 wk] :)

Nice to see Britney still in top 2. Voted for Let It Rain, really like Melanie's part!

I agree, Melanie Fiona really does make this song with her fine vocals and the really catchy chorus to boot. It's become Tinchy Stryder's highest charting single in my chart.

As for Britney, I believe her music video is due to premier on 6th February during the Superbowl (most watched TV event in America) so I reckon 'Hold It Against Me' will get a sales boost once the video goes into heavy rotation - especially if it's as striking visually like 'Toxic' was.

  17. And since when a song about sex has reached #1 because it's a song about sex?

In 1991 when 'I Wanna Sex You Up' by Colour Me Badd went to no. 1 in the UK. Quite why it managed it I shall never know. Thing is back in 1991 kids were genuinely shocked if there was a song with the word "sex" in the title. Kids back in 1991 laughed in a "you can't say that" kinda away when people said they wanted to "do it". We were so much more naive compared to the kids of today.

  18. When they broadcast the number 2 today, I was absolutely sure what the number 1 would be... Let's say I was shocked! I'm looking forward to seeing the whole Top 20 on the MTV Europe website!

Having seen the chart now, I'm assuming you were expecting Bruno Mars 'Grenade' to be #1?

  19. Tbh to me "Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors" sounded so much more, it may be a tad empty and it's not their best but it's an absolute stadium-filler of a song. I agree with you on the last bit though, I think it's a real shame that when both those bands came back, it was SFG's single that did better. It's a decent enough pop song but The Hoosiers' "Choices" deserved SO much more. Great song.

'Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors' was quite anthemic imo. The track got to no. 5 in my chart at the time. In fact, Editors have had a string of top 20 hits in my chart (yes, I'm aware I'm going way off topic  ).

    Editors 'Papillon' #3

Editors 'Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors' #5

Editors 'An End Has A Start' #9

    Editors 'Munich' #10

Editors 'You Don't Know Love' #11

    Editors 'The Racing Rats' #12

Editors 'Push Your Head Towards The Air' #16

'This Ain't A Love Song' was ok but I was gobsmacked when it went to no. 1 and outsold Plan B 'She Said' which I honestly thought was gonna be a massive UK #1 hit. It eventually outsold SFG and remains the far superior song. 'Choices' was brilliant, have to admit I wasn't keen on The Hoosiers at all back in 2007. I just about liked 'Goodbye Mr A' (got to #6 in my chart) but everything else was crap. 'Choices' got to #5 in my chart.
