  1. do you think its possible for madonna to get a million sellar? Whilst she is still alive?

It looks unlikely but you never can tell. Iirc, 'Into The Groove' is Madonna's biggest selling UK hit with around 850k sold in 1985. The track may have sold more when 'Celebration' (the album) was released last year. That's the only single that has any chance of breaking through the million sales barrier.

  2. I'll probably vote sometime during the weekend

I reckon I'll end up doing the same as you and Tony. Already deleted four tracks which I just couldn't stand so I'm now attempting to whittle down 27 tracks to 12.

On a seperate note, I've already got an early contender for my 20 points but this could well change.

  3. But Cheryl Cole sold 157,000 and that's how many points she got.

edit: Yes it is points, not sales. But still it's accurate

157k in the UK, yes. What about Ireland's sales? Surely it must've sold 2/3k there (I'm aware Irish singles sales are much lower because of their population).

  4. I actually think the new Rihanna era is going to completely overshadow 'Rated R' from a year ago. I can see 'Loud' having 'Good Girl Gone Bad' style success. It might not go to no. 1 in the UK but it's going to be massive.

Actually, it makes me wonder if Rihanna will make the UK top 40 with 'What's My Name' and 'Love The Way You Lie Pt II' when the album is released next week. Potentially, there are three hit singles here already - and that's before the album is released. :o

  5. Lyrically, it's very 'Piece Of Me' by Britney Spears with the name check.

"everybody's wanting a piece of Michael Jackson" or "i'm mrs oh my God that Britney, shameless (you want a piece of me)".

The chorus to 'Breaking News' isn't bad, just a bit on the flat side. Then again, 'This Is It' had a really flat chorus. The problem with this tack is that it lacks the killer hook that makes the song instant and recognisable. 'Billie Jean', 'Beat It', 'Bad', 'Black Or White' (hmm, more MJ song titles beginning with "B" :D ) all have those killer hooks and melodies that make the song. 'Breaking News' quite simply doesn't.

  6. I listened to the 30 second clip on iTunes and was really unimpressed. All I heard was "...and i owe it all to you, you, you, you, you, you, y-y-y-y-y-y-y....dirty bit" ** bendy synths **

Having heard the whole track now, it's not as horrendous as I had been expecting. Sadly, I still think they've tried to do another 'Boom Boom Pow'. I would've had more respect had Black Eyed Peas gone away for 18 months/two years and give themselves enough time to work on a proper new album.

I assume 'The Beginning' is going to be a repackaged 'The E.N.D.S' with a second disc of new material. Clearly 'The Time (Dirty Bit)' was one of the tracks that never made 'The E.N.D.S' - now's the time where the record companies exploit the public again with more reissues. Merry Xmas!!! :kink:

  7. I think the simple answer is he has now creatively burned out and completely ran out of ideas, so has to recycle past material and pass it off as his own.

Don't most acts do that though? :D

Anyways, Will.I.Am is like the new Westlife circa 2006 ('The Rose' anyone?) or Eminem circa 2009 ('Crack A Bottle' anyone). Ie; artists who release uninspired covers or novelty rap songs that actually have 0 humour in them but because they've got a loyal fan base, they buy into the song regardless of quality of song and et voila - top 5 hit.

These are the songs that sell on artist name alone rather than musical merit.

  8. So Rihanna could beat Take That this week, but I still have a feeling they could climb to Number 1 next week with all the hype/x factor performance etc..

Or people could possibly just be waiting for the album ?

Rihanna's still selling really well on iTunes and then there's the release of 'Like A G6'. It would actually be hilarious if 'Like A G6' got to no. 1 in the singles chart next week purely because it would've got their without any X Factor performance and hype. Do I think Far East Movement have a chance? No :P

  9. Why are Far East Movement releasing 'Like A G6' next week! With JLS, Westlife. Take That, Rihanna etc. All battling for number one, it could go pear-shaped for them :(

One thing is guaranteed - next weeks top 5 could all have massive sales.

JLS will do well as they'll benefit from both X Factor and Children In Need, as will Take That - they'll get the X Factor boost that Rihanna enjoyed last week. However, Rihanna is still selling incredibly well so I can't see sales of 'Only Girl' suddenly plummeting next week either. Then there's Far East Movement which will sell because it's popular regardless of The X Factor - would be quite an achievement if 'Like A G6' outsold JLS/Take That/Rihanna.

Westlife? Pfft!!! They've got no chance. I'm almost convinced they will be lucky to even make #5. Then again, I thought Shayne Ward and McFly would be lucky to go low top 10 this week. I'm eating humble pie as we speak. Yum!!! :P

  10. I can see Rihanna and Take That having an almight battle for the no. 1 spot. :o 'The Flood' does seem to have peaked already - either that or Rihanna has suddenly got a sales boost.

Take That will surely be no. 1 in the physicals chart but Rihanna's lead on iTunes might be the counterbalance.

Anyways, I don't mind who is no. 1 as both as brilliant tracks. That said, a part of me wants Rihanna no. 1 because that's two weeks at no. 1 and it'd be all the more impressive if 'Only Girl' sells 100k again.

  11. I checked out iTunes earlier just to listen to the 30 second clips of some tracks:

The Royal British Legion - 2 Minute Silence

What sounds like a couple of cars driving past in the distance, why would anyone want to buy '2 Minute Silence'. What a great ringtone. :D

Black Eyed Peas - The Time (Dirty Beat)

Seems like they're trying to recreate 'Boom Boom Pow' - a minimalist sounding track with bendy synths Benny Benassi would've been proud of seven years ago. Difficult to judge from just 30 seconds but I wasn't impressed.

Shayne Ward - Gotta Be Somebody

Kudos to Shayne, he's clearly more popular than I realised. If he makes the top 5 on Sunday and sells at least 45k then it further shows up the failure that is Joe McElderry's "comeback". I was expecting low top 10 for Shayne so he's certainly doing better than I expected.

McFly feat. Taio Cruz - Shine A Light

...as are McFly. Honestly thought McFly would be low top 10 as well, possibly missing the top 10 altogether. Alas, top 5 on iTunes although this is a fairly decent song from them. They might also benefit from physical sales (they usually do). I'll be more surprised if this outpeaks 'Party Girl' purely because it seems wherever a lead single peaks, the second peaks lower - then the third single peaks even lower. Like Shayne, I have underestimated their fanbase.

Another vote the Minaj eh? :D Seems to be flavour of the month on Buzzjack.

  13. Hi,

02 (--) Nadine - Insatiable (02) [1 wk] Wow, she's quite high in your chart, shame she flopped in the UK :(

19 (14) James Blunt - Stay The Night (14-19) [2 wks] It's pretty popular in German-speaking countries, don't understand the hype around it :drama: :(

    20 (17) Alex Gaudino - I'm In Love (I Wanna Do It) (02-02-04-06-12-17-20) [7 wks]

22 (23) Eminem feat. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie (02-02-03-03-01-03-03-05-06-09-11-13-15-15-20-23-22) [17 wks] I love the Rihanna's version, it makes me like this song even more, will spend another 5(?) weeks in my TOP10

    23 (19) Diana Vickers - My Wicked Heart (13-19-23) [3 wks]

    24 (18) Clare Maguire - Ain't Nobody (19-18-24) [3 wks]

    34 (27) Adam Lambert - If I Had You (17-27-34) [3 wks]

37 (--) Will.I.Am feat. Nicki Minaj - Check It Out (37) [1 wk] My vote goes to Nicki Minaj.

    ^_^ Great chart.

    Cheers Luke :D

01 (01) Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World) (01-01) [2 wks] She's awesome, this 'Loud' era is gonna be huge!

The record company have definitely chosen a brilliant track to represent the new Rihanna era. If the quality of the album is as good as this, then Rihanna looks certain to have a monster selling album - her most successful since 'Good Girl Gone Bad'. Odd to think how well Rihanna has done in my chart in 2010 yet I thought 'Russian Roulette' was a really underwhelming comeback single this time last year. 'Only Girl' is the complete opposite - anthemic, excellent video and stunning.

02 (--) Nadine - Insatiable (02) [1 wk] Wow, she's quite high in your chart, shame she flopped in the UK :(

I've really liked 'Insatiable' since I first heard this several weeks ago. Having discovered Nadine is signed to an independent record company, I'm not that surprised. They can't afford the lavish promotion/publicity stunts that Cheryl Cole has managed to achieve in 2010. Kudos to Cheryl's PR agent. ^_^ Nadine will always be the talented one from Girls Aloud and I will never let the UK charts dictate to me who is more talented. Cheryl is more attractive (although Nadine is pretty anyways), but more talented? Ha!!!

03 (03) Cee Lo Green - Forget You! (01-01-01-03-03) [5 wks] -_- Ok, ok, it's not that bad as I thought.

:D This song never gets boring. This is an absolute gem and I'm really glad this track has had the success it deserves. By far one of the UK's best #1 hits of the year.

15 (13) Mark Angelo feat. Shaya - Far From Everything (17-16-13-10-13-15) [6 wks] It's a new entry in my chart :P

Ooh!!! :D It's nice to see others getting interested in any European tracks I chart. My chart has become much more "European" this year but it really does reflect the type of music I enjoy listening to.

19 (14) James Blunt - Stay The Night (14-19) [2 wks] It's pretty popular in German-speaking countries, don't understand the hype around it :drama: :(

James Blunt is proof that Europe do like British acts who have past glories in their charts. I'm sure if 'You're Beautiful' hadn't become such a massive international smash hit, 'Stay The Night' would've probably gone top 50 in these countries.

I finally heard 'Love The Way You Lie Pt II' last night on YouTube. It takes on the noe famous Eminem track and gives it a whole new level of depth. I fear this track will eventually suffer overkill and I will quickly get bored of the track - same way how I quickly lost interest in 'Empire State Of Mind'. Then again, 'LTWYL' doesn't seem to have had as much airplay as 'ESOM' did.

37 (--) Will.I.Am feat. Nicki Minaj - Check It Out (37) [1 wk] My vote goes to Nicki Minaj.

I almost didn't chart this after hearing the preview of the track on iTunes and it was pretty loop the "ohh ohh" from 'Video Killed The Radio Star' on a loop with rapping over the top. However it's one of those annoying tracks that somehow manages to grab my attention in a "admit it, you do like this song a little bit" even though I don't want to. Guilty pleasure but I don't think it's brilliant hence it's low entry. Could climb though. :kink:

  14. Anything in the 'contract' can no doubt be overruled by Simon whispering in the producer's ears during the break to sort out a last minute rule change to ensure that it doesn't get the chance to go to deadlock!

Hence Cheryl not voting or being given the chance to take it to deadlock. Simon probably found out during the commercial break that Katie was last on public votes but didn't want her leaving the contest. Whisper whisper, and hey presto!!! :magic:

  15. I thought it was against the rules not to vote? Dermot shouldn't have gave up that easily on Cheryl and Cheryl said that she would take it to deadlock so Dermot should have at least gone back to Cheryl so she could take it to deadlock as she was still to vote! Actually very angry about that.

It's yet another cop out. Over the years, one judge has found themselves with two acts in the bottom two and they've had to choose one of them.

Sharon Osbourne infamously refused which, like Tyron has mentioned, probably went against her contract. Might be one of the reasons why Sharon is no longer a judge amongst other things.

  16. OMG. This show is not tolerable. At least it should have gone to deadlock. :( I can't believe Katie is still in. She's an awful vocalist and she has no likeability factor. What a farce.

Simon said "i'm going to choose who i think the public will want to see".

Simon Cowell clearly doesn't know what the public like. Ok, there's a couple of Buzzjack who like Katie - I don't know anybody at work, or in the family who like her.

  17. wow just NOT fair :(

    stupid Louis and Simon

Considering all the conspiracies surrounding Katie and her "record deal", she could burp her survival song for 2 minutes and Simon/Louis would save her.

Actually, I'd rather listen to her burp for two minutes than sing. It'd definitely sound a like nicer. ^_^

  18. Hi Martin, returning the favour :D

    01 (05) I Blame Coco – In Spirit Golden [3wks] (17-5-1)

New at no. 13 this week for me, I Blame Coco's most successful for me is still 'Caesar' which peaked at #4.

    02 (01) Clare Maguire – Ain’t Nobody [5wks] (6-1-1-1-2)

Clearly I haven't got into this track in the same way as you have as it only managed a peak of #18 in my chart.

    03 (03) Bruno Mars – Just The Way You Are [7wks] (16-9-4-4-4-3-3)

A modern day classic. Where did 'Nothin On You' and 'Billionaire' peak in your chart?

    05 (04) Cee Lo Green – F**k You [6wks] (2-1-2-2-4-5)

This never gets boring, everytime the video comes on the music channels I still enjoy watching. Excellent video, excellent track.

    07 (17) Take That – The Flood [2wks] (17-7)

Could be no. 1 next week in the UK unless Rihanna somehow manages to continue selling massively. Whatever the outcome, I'm happy either way as both tracks are fantastic.

    08 (**) Pet Shop Boys – Together [1wk] (8)

This is a great track that's new to my Pre-Release Chart and will no doubt be promoted to my personal chart in the next couple of weeks.

    09 (13) Rihanna – Only Girl (In The World) [4wks] (22-16-13-9)

Best of the rest (tracks that made my top 10):

    13 (11) The Saturdays – Higher [6wks] (26-21-21-15-11-13)

    17 (10) Kylie Minogue – Get Outta My Way [9wks] (4-2-1-1-3-6-8-10-17)

    22 (22) Mike Posner – Cooler Than Me [11wks] (33-22-12-11-15-20-33-33-27-22-22)

24 (21) Eminem feat. Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie [17wks] (38-32-26-19-7-1-1-1-3-4-9-11-14-16-18-21-24)

    28 (20) The Wombats – Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves) [8wks] (17-8-6-5-8-13-20-28)

    35 (26) Katy Perry – Teenage Dream [12wks] (29-15-9-7-7-7-7-9-13-19-26-35)

    36 (38) Duck Sauce – Barbra Striesand [2wks] (38-36)

  19. Hi Richard, returning the favour :D

    1. Take That - The Flood (1) (CR-1-1-1-1)

Their record company has been very wise to bring the release of 'The Flood' forward a week. I actually think this is Take That's best single since 'Patience' (yes, I prefer this to 'Rule The World') and could well be no. 1 next week depending on how much I'm still loving 'Only Girl'.

    6. Nicole Scherzinger - Poison (7) (CR-10-7-6)

Finally heard this the other day and was impressed. I'd seen a music video on the music channel and I thought it was Nicole but I was thinking "it doesn't look her". Turned out to be Freemasons feat. Wynter Gordon 'Believer'.

    8. Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are (10) (CR-18-17-15-9-7-5-10-OUT-10-8) Longest Runner

This track defines "modern classic" and like you've posted yourself, this is surely going to become a staple tune of 2010 - one of the UK #1s of this year that will be remembered well in 10 years time.

    9. Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World) (6) (CR-13-4-6-9)

...and this just continues to be excellent. I know you weren't keen at first but from first listen I thought this was a fantastic pop/dance track. I'm shocked but so pleased that 'Only Girl' has managed to increase its sales this week to 134k. Honestly didn't think it'd happen but it's well deserved.

    10. Nelly - Just A Dream (13) (CR-13-10)

Nelly has always been hit n' miss for me. I much prefer this type of Nelly song. My fave Nelly track is 'Dilemma' which is probably a predictable choice but it really was one of the classic songs from 2002. His only other song I've liked loads was 'My Place' in 2004 and that was mainly down to Jaheim's soulful vocals on the chorus. So this is probably my third fave Nelly track to date and will entering my chart in the next couple of weeks.

    14. Far East Movement feat Cataracs & Dev - Like A G6 (Re-entry) (CR-14-10-OUT-14)

This is so much like 'Boom Boom Pow' but where I was in two minds over that song before starting to like it a little bit more, I actually already like this song more than 'BBP'. Do I see this going to no. 1 in my chart? No. :D But top 10 could well happen.

    15. Hurts - Stay (17) (CR-17-OUT-17-15)

Following the massive success of 'Wonderful Life' topping my chart and 'Better Than Love' making my top 5, Hurts are definitely looking set at scoring their third top 5 hit with this. It's such a gem of a track and I'd love to see this song be a big UK hit but I suspect it'll be low top 40 whilst enjoying massive success across Europe.

    16. Katy Perry - Firework (8) (CR-13-10-13-OUT-5-8-16)

This is such a better track than 'Teenage Dream' and is definitely looking set to peak higher and have a better chart run.

Quite a few I've yet to hear - no doubt it's only a matter of time before I do. :D

  20. Hey Hits :D Hope The Flood can go to #1 for you next week, seeing as Shame managed it in your chart! My faves in the singles;

    01 (01) Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World) (01-01) [2 wks]

02 (--) Nadine - Insatiable (02) [1 wk] Really high for this! Of course I love the song but I always thought you were overestimating it's chances saying it would be contending for UK #1, or at the very least top ten. It had literally NO promotion, always a recipe for disaster :drama:

    03 (03) Cee Lo Green - Forget You! (01-01-01-03-03) [5 wks]

04 (--) Alexis Jordan - Happiness (04) [1 wk] Peaked at #4 for me as well, great song. Surprised it went top 3 in the UK though :o

06 (04) Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are (01-01-02-02-02-04-06) [7 wks]

    11-40

11 (--) Roll Deep feat. Alesha Dixon - Take Control (11) [1 wk] Not as good as the first two singles but I wasn't expecting them to flop as hard as #29

22 (23) Eminem feat. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie (02-02-03-03-01-03-03-05-06-09-11-13-15-15-20-23-22) [17 wks]

    Cheers Richard :D

02 (--) Nadine - Insatiable (02) [1 wk] Really high for this! Of course I love the song but I always thought you were overestimating it's chances saying it would be contending for UK #1, or at the very least top ten. It had literally NO promotion, always a recipe for disaster :drama:

Then again Nadine is signed to an independent record lable so perhaps they can't affort all the glamorous marketing hype that Cheryl Cole's record company can afford quite easily. I await to see how spectacular Cheryl's comeback in 2011 is going to be - 2010 will take some beating. :P

04 (--) Alexis Jordan - Happiness (04) [1 wk] Peaked at #4 for me as well, great song. Surprised it went top 3 in the UK though :o

'Happiness' is just a brilliant track that's surely sold on musical merit as Alexis has done no promoting as far as I'm aware. It's just the song and the music video that's done the talking.

11 (--) Roll Deep feat. Alesha Dixon - Take Control (11) [1 wk] Not as good as the first two singles but I wasn't expecting them to flop as hard as #29

A strong top 10 means Roll Deep fall short. I had this down as peaking higher than 'Green Light' but alas it doesn't quite manage it. That said, I've sort of gone off the song slightly anyways so that had an effect on its chart position.

21 (--) Jamiroquai - White Knuckle Ride (21) [1 wk] I found this really pedestrian the one time I heard it. Bring back the Jay Kay who gave us Canned Heat and Virtual Insanity!

This is like 'Cosmic Girl' only not quite as catchy. I don't mind this song, it's not as bad as everyone has been making it out. I do agree that it's not a patch on past Jamiroquai singles.
