fantastic top 5 :o Ayo Technology and Dance With Somebody are brilliant Euro hits, wish they'd got released here
whilst Poker Face, Jungle Drum and Stadt are three of my favourite singles of the year
I'm sure Milow 'AYO Technology' was released on UK iTunes. It just never really took off and peaked low down the top 200.

Back in March 2009 I created a mash up of Girls Aloud Vs Liquid Child 'Untouchable'. The video became a big talking point on Digital Spy the day after I uploaded it and it's had over 2,500 views (which for a video of mine is kinda impressive!!! )
So enjoy my mash up and I introduce Girls Aloud Vs Liquid Child - Untouchable.

I Knew I Loved You was great :D such a nice song - in fact I can't think of a Savage Garden single which I didn't like
shame they couldn't get a UK #1 with either Truly Madly Deeply or To The Moon & Back
I wasn't really a Savage Garden fan to be honest. I did like 'Truly Madly Deeply' but I wouldn't say it was one of the best songs in the chart at the time.
-
Heh, for me those are 3 of the best chart toppers, well N*Sync and Enrique. Both were huge hits here, but I realise they werent in the UK.
Physical sales were actually still pretty decent in 2000 (nearly all the best physical sellers of the decade are from 2000), hence the variety, but by 2003 they were dead and so the chart was basically airplay. For Britney to go top10 with Toxic was a huge feat since she was ignored on radio and had no sales to back her up. I still think airlay ruins the chart, for example I think the digital #1 of 2009 are better than the Hot 100 #1s.
Was 'Bye Bye Bye' no. 1 in the US in 1999? I thought that got to no. 1 in the US but in 2000. Lady GaGa was no. 1 on US iTunes for a couple of weeks with 'Bad Romance' but lost out to 'Empire State Of Mind' having mass airplay.
It's also like Madonna 'Hung Up' which was completely ignored in the US as if the song didn't exsist yet somehow the track got to no. 9, and when '4 Minutes' was no. 1 on US iTunes, the track dropped 03-07 the same week. If only the US had downloads in 2002, there might've been a better list of no. 1 hits between 2003-2006.
Yes, I remember pointless facts like these. :(
-
-
Oh and the first #1 of 2010 is Kesha - Tik Tok. Good to see the new decade start with pop, 10 years after a pop song topped the 2000 chart. But then we all know what happened after 2001...let's hope it wont happen again.
Let's hope not. >_<
Downloads has clearly been the best thing to happen to the US charts. Who'd have thought Britney Spears would be no. 1 with '3' when 'Toxic' couldn't ever get there. Obviously radio airplay dominated the charts in the first half of the decade, but 2003-2004 really was a shocking period. 2000 surprises me because whilst some of those no. 1 hits are ok, they don't stand out as defining pop moments. Ie; 'Be With You', 'It's Gonna Be Me', 'I Knew I Loved You', etc.

I've finally whittled it down to 10 but could've easily listed 20.
2004
Juvenile - Slow Motion
Terror Squad - Lean Back
2006
D4L - Laffy Taffy
Nelly - Grillz
Chamillionaire - Ridin'
Fergie - London Bridge
2007
Mims - This Is Why I'm Hot
Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls
Soulja Boy Tell'Em - Crank Dat
Chris Brown ft T-Pain - Kiss Kiss
:puke:

Round 1: Select 10 songs that you dislike the most, from all the years
I just picked out the songs I actually liked and still had about half of the US no. 1s still listed. Even if I removed the songs I don't know, that's still a poor list of chart toppers.
The best years are 2001, 2005, 2008 and 2009 going off those chart toppers. 2003, 2004 and 2006 are atrocious!!!

'I Like' is a great track. I had noticed it got to no. 1 on Germany's iTunes chart then was plesantly surprised that it had hit no. 1 in the official German singles chart.
Much better than 'Knock You Down', I hope the record company give this track a push and it gets an international release at some point.

As always it comes down to just two singles - which track of 2009 has been the most successful in my personal chart this year? :o
In second place it's...
:o
http://vibewaves.brinkster.net/europe/2009/davidguetta-wlto.jpg 02. David Guetta featuring Kelly Rowland - When Love Takes Over [227 pts] [pk #1]
The second appearance from David Guetta is at no. 2 with the excellent 'When Love Takes Over' featuring Kelly Rowland on vocals. From the first time I heard this, I had a gut feeling this would be an absolute smash hit. Sure enough 'When Love Takes Over' became a monster hit - even got rushed released to UK iTunes because an unofficial version by Airi L was climbing up iTunes - even peaked around no. 9 before tailong after the genuine David Guetta was released. As a consequence, David Guetta's version climbed to no. 1 in its second week whilst Airi L's version plummted out of the top 75 from no. 22!!! :o
Which means...
http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/2703459.JPG 01. Lady GaGa - Poker Face [234 pts] [pk #1]
Having scored four no. 1 hits in 2009, the highest ranked is 'Poker Face' - my no. 1 single of 2009. I first heard this song in November 2008 when it was released in Australia, New Zealand and Canada making its entry in the HET30 chart I compile. Following the success of 'Just Dance', I quickly entered 'Poker Face' at no. 1 just as the song shot up into the UK before hitting the UK no. 1 spot a fortnight later.
That concludes the Hitstastic Top 40 Singles of 2009 countdown. If you're out and about celebrating New Years Eve and bringing in 2010 have a great time. Let's hope 2010 will be a fantastic year for all of us.

http://vibewaves.brinkster.net/europe/2008/ladygaga-justdance.jpg 03. Lady GaGa featuring Colby O' Donis & Akon - Just Dance [218 pts] [pk #1]
A lot of people first discovered Lady GaGa in the summer of 2008 after 'Just Dance' was released in Australiasia and central Europe. Some posters even had 'Just Dance' in their charts of 2008. Timing was everything and taking advantage of a usually quiet January, Lady GaGa released 'Just Dance' in the UK & Ireland. The track went on to sell 77k in its first week at no. 1 - very good sales for a no. 1 single so early in the year.
-
http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Thumbnail_Images/HMV/679L167CD.JPG 04. Little Boots - Remedy [201 pts] [pk #1]
Breaking through the 200 points barrier we find Victoria Christina Hesketh aka Little Boots who was championed in the BBC Sound of 2009 poll but, maybe down to bad timing, it seemed La Roux got in first and stole Little Boots' thunder as the big electro pop female act of the year. A shame as Little Boots had a far more successful year in my personal chart. Little Boots' first three singles all went top 3 outpeaking the previous single ('Stuck On Repeat' no. 3, 'New In Town' no. 2, 'Remedy' no. 1)...and where does an artist go from here?
'Earthquake' (no. 34!!!)
-
http://vibewaves.brinkster.net/europe/2009/ladygaga-badromance.jpg 05. Lady GaGa - Bad Romance [198 pts] [pk #1]
Proving how much of a dominant force Lady GaGa has been in 2009, at #5 is the second appearance from Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta wich means there's still two more tracks to come from the GaGa!!! :o 'Bad Romance' is the most recent chart topper to make the end of year chart after spending 7 weeks at no. 1 - had the track been released a few weeks earlier, it could have been in contention for being my no. 1 single of 2009.
-
http://vibewaves.brinkster.net/europe/2009/lilyallen-thefear.jpg 06. Lily Allen - The Fear [197 pts] [pk #1]
Lily Allen returned with her most successful single to date at the start of the year. 'The Fear' went straight in at no. 1 in January 2009 which boded well for the release of second studio album 'It's Not Me, It's You'. Both single and album gave Lily Allen her first chart double simultaniously holding the no. 1 spot in both charts.

http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Thumbnail_Images/HMV/INFECT102CD.JPG07. The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition[179 pts] [pk #1]
If any song from 2009 could be used as a soundtrack for reflect on the last 12 months, 'Sweet Disposition' would definitely be considered a worthy track. With its anthemic feel and uplifting chorus, The Temper Trap climbed their way to no. 1 in my chart in September. Then the song deservedly climbed into the UK top 10 in early October peaking at a respectable #6 - not bad considering rock music on the whole really hadn't caught the UK record buying publics attention. Until Rage Against The Machine that is!!!

http://vibewaves.brinkster.net/europe/2009/bep-igottafeelin.jpg08. Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling [179 pts] [pk #1]
Without a doubt, the most successful Black Eyed Peas single in my chart to date is 'I Gotta Feeling' spending three weeks at no. 1 - their only other chart topper for me was 'Don't Lie' in 2005. David Guetta worked his magic on this track and completely outperformed previous track 'Boom Boom Pow' in both sales and chart performance in various countries.
-
http://vibewaves.brinkster.net/europe/2009/madonna-celebration.jpg09. Madonna - Celebration [162 pts] [pk #1]
To co-incide with the release of a new greatest hits compilation, Madonna teamed up with Paul Oakenfold and created the dance track 'Celebration' which is clearly based around Madonna's 1984 classic 'Holiday'. The track first got released across Europe and hit no. 1 in Finland and Sweden. In the UK the track peaked at #3 whilst the album hit no. 1 in the majority of countries. The original Paul Oakenfold version is far better, imo, than the Benny Benassi remix used in the video.
-
http://vibewaves.brinkster.net/europe/2009/davidguetta-sexybitch.jpg 10. David Guetta featuring Akon - Sexy Bitch [160 pts] [pk #1]
The first of two apperances for French DJ/producer David Guetta. Riding the dance boom, David Guetta has had his most successful era to date bagging himself two no. 1 hits in my chart along the way. 'Sexy Bitch' featured Akon - an inconsistant act in my chart whose previous best chart hit was 'Smack That' which got to no. 3 in November 2006. In 2006, David Guetta scored his previous big hit in my chart with the 'Love Don't Let Me Go (Walking Away)' spending four weeks stuck at #2!!! :o
The Brit Awards 2010 Predictions
in Pop and Country
You make an interesting point though.
I remember Craig David received eight nominations in the Brit Awards 2001 yet when home empty handed, and he was one of 2000's most successful artists.
OT: The Brit Awards demoted Dido from Best Female in 2001 to Best Newcomer in 2002. How did managed to work that one out I'll never understand.
I can only assume the Brits panel of judges are a bit like the Labour government. Full of middle aged white men wearing suits who know nothing about their jobs or what they're actually doing from one day to the next (well, it wouldn't surprise me). I wouldn't mind earning their salary though!!! :P
