Always been like that but guess the internet speeds it up and makes it worse. For example everything Christina did in 2010 was instantly torn apart online so she didn't even have a chance to get some positive word of mouth. But yes, it's a reasonable guess that artists currently enjoying hits will be in the flop group in the near future and other acts will replace them.
  2. Probably, but I think Rihanna will already overshadow her before Gaga's comes out. Britney is one of those acts who are expected to do well until the end of time due to her name alone but pretty sure most people moved onto the more current ladies by now and Britney is already just riding Katy Perry's and Ke$ha's sound with Martin and Luke.

I've nothing against Mika, but it's not like his singles in 2007 were any different than "flash-in-the-pan" escapism songs. Also, Scissor Sisters is hurt by the fact that everyone and their brother did the retro-80s dance pop already, same thing for Goldfrapp, these albums didn't offer anything new after La Roux or whatever. But then again I'm pretty sure if "Rocket" was released by Rihanna/Lady Gaga/Katy Perry/Kylie Minogue then it would have been a multiple-week #1 so who knows at this point...

Kylie definitely underperformed, compared to the hype and promo she got, she's struggling to reach platinum. However, Christina Aguilera is the biggest disaster of 2010 by far.

In this case people clearly bought the album instead though. MJ's Bad also comes to mind, among the 10 biggest albums ever but only had one #1 hit while most of its singles are considered classics today.
  6. They really were. :( The top 3 albums still sold more than the US top 3 though, that's something at least.
  7. Finally, been voting for September since TAB left. :P
  8. While I agree those should have gained bigger success than they have (especially selling the album itself), I don't think songs like "Remedy" or "Earthquake" were anything more than pop fluff. But of course they were tailor-made to be hits, so it's really her image and the marketing that hurt her. Imagine if those songs were released by Cheryl Cole. :P
  9. But the point is, they already tried that route and having a relatively decent hit by RedOne didn't help at all. I think she will have to duet with some established act to get noticed again.

So at least we know she has 3 times more fans in the UK than in the US. Obviously she has NOTHING to do with the GH and she's probably not chasing success because she knows the Timbaland thing was a one off thing already (she started flopping after her debut but bounced back with Loose). I can see her doing the independent route and performing for the fans for at least a few more years, similar to Jewel's career.
  11. I checked out the whole album to see what the hype is about Cheryl and I was disappointed too. It's definitely a case of "she can release anything and people still buy it", pretty sure if these songs were recorded by someone else, nobody would bother at all. Especially the song "The Flood", had it been released under someone else's name, it would be a bigger flop than Duffy's latest single. I guess she will continue to release music like this as long as she can and when her fame starts slipping, she can just retire saying something like "I had to quit while still on top!".
  12. Is she really releasing that second album? She couldn't ride the hype first time around, I'm surprised she's given another chance. I admit several songs are very good on her album but they could be sung by anyone, she doesn't have much of a personality or a distinctive voice unfortunately...
  13. I'm surprised the MJ album is the only major album release in all December, guess that means there won't be much change in the albums chart in the next several weeks.

^It's the label who should be promoting it, but they are probably not investing in it because they know it would only result in a few thousand more copies. But it is surprising she doesn't have enough hardcore fans fans to make this at least chart!
  15. TAB is horrid.

My point was that just because Enya is a successful act, there's still not much to discuss about her *at the moment*. I don't care for tabloid press but in the case of Katy Perry you can at least fill a thread with chart updates, while in the case of Enya, not even the compilation album caused a lot of discussion.

It will be resurrected when there's actual activity by Enya. ;)

Katy Perry does have new music out and she's making a lot of appearances. Enya has no presence whatsoever so unfortunately there's really not much to discuss...
  19. I'm liking this, quite a smooth listen. Any press reviews yet?

Guess this means no new album till the spring. But are they planning a 2nd album at all? Will it be more 80s nostalgia? It wouldn't have the novelty factor anymore for them and could flop like Goldfrapp.
  21. They are obviously doing it for the fans, so they can have one more last Goldfrapp single. Apart from the supposedly upcoming compilation, I don't see Goldfrapp ever releasing physical products anymore.
  22. Because they made a lot of broadcast deals, which earns more money than the actual release. Hope the CD tracklist won't be as horrible as the previous 2 live albums...
  23. ^Those numbers for Gold & Platinum only apply in the US, albums don't ship millions in Poland for example.
  24. ^Yeah, but it's not like they have any huge selling artists left, and we know album sales have been dropping dramatically. Everyone is predicting the fall of record labels, especially the big 4, artists often go on about no 'middle man' needed and such...
  25. Indeed it's just Warner, struggling to earn a few bucks more. They knew more time passes by, less people are gonna buy greatest hits CDs, but they needed the money now. I wonder how long Warner is gonna last as a record label, music sales are not making much money...
