Parallel Reality

I shall give the album another few spins over the weekend and then I shall contribute a rate to the thread too. :)

This is a fabulous album, and it doesn't deserve to underperform. :( - Good that she just made the top 10 though. I think the main problem was promotion, and although the release strategy and the Froots of the month are good for fans, most casual listeners might have missed new songs/the album all together. Electra Heart got to #1 (on fairly low sales but even so) but 'Primadonna', I'd say, was well known at the time and no doubt helped the album. I'm pretty sure 'I'm A Ruin' could've easily been a top 20 hit. For the future? It's not impossible for Marina to be commercially successful again if she wants - I get the impression that she's just happy to be making music at the moment. She's the kind of artist who will have a strong fanbase for many years to come, even if albums didn't take off too well, commercially. She just needs to get back into the studio, write some new/catchy/relevant hooks (like Savages for example) and step up the promotion for the next era.

This is actually growing on me a little now. It's just sounds like such a strange song!

I too think that 'Drunk On Love' should have been pushed as a single - Didn't it get a small amount of exposure in a UK reality show (can't remember which one) and then it was hovering around the 50s on iTunes for a few weeks. I like 'You Da One' now more than I ever did but it should have probably been nothing more than a bonus track. I love 'Firebomb' but I think 'Te Amo' is still a great song, even if it wasn't as instant. I do also wish we had a completed version of 'Love Without Tragedy'.

I'm not a fan of this. :(

I am so excited for this. Although I agree 'Ultraviolence' isn't quite as incredible as BTD, I still think 'West Coast' is solid, but I do still listen to a lot of other tracks too. I hope she doesn't disappoint.

I really love this, she's absolutely nailed it really hasn't she? It's nice to have something so different from 'Froot' as well (as much as I do love it).

I'm very surprised at Union J doing so well, although there have been adverts on TV and Youtube and all over the place. Still, it's not a bad song IMO but I didn't expect it to get much higher than 7 or so on iTunes!

I actually thought Lauren did very well there, and I'm not even usually a fan of hers!

That was actually a pretty good performance!! I would like any of Stereo Kicks, Ben or Lauren to be in the bottom two, with either Stereo Kicks or Lauren going.

'I'm Not The Only One' is re-growing on me now! My favourite from him along with 'La La La'!

I too hope they get success with the right material. They have a good look and the chemistry in the band is believable because they've known each other for a good few years. I would have liked to have seen them do some edgier stuff (that matches their style) on X Factor, i.e. a Haim cover or something in that vein as it would have shown they can do more than just the cheesy pop stuff (which isn't bad, might I add.) I also really enjoyed their cover of 'Blurred Lines' despite not liking the original. It shows how good they could be. H-vzGDv6wqw
