  1. Ahh, I love 'Demons' too! Would be perfect for an Autumn release. :D --- 'Secrets' should have done better by One Republic. My favourite song by them as well! --- Radio 1 are absolutely HAMMERING 'Take Back The Night'. I'm kind of surprised it's not doing better. 'Tunnel Vision' is still higher on iTunes! Radio 1 are also hammering 'Do I Wanna Know', 'I Love It', 'Trampoline' and Vampire Weekend's 'Unbelievers'. I've heard them so much in the last few days it's unreal. (Although I wouldn't complain about some of them)
  2. 8 YOUNG AND BEAUTIFUL AVERAGE RATING: 7.71 "Hot summer nights, mid July, when you and I were forever wild. The crazy days, the city lights..." http://i43.tinypic.com/28s5ulv.jpg Next up at number eight is Lana's song she pinned for 'The Great Gatsby'. The movie has a soundtrack album and 'Young and Beautiful' was the highest to chart from it in many territories at the time it was released. It peaked at #23 in the UK. Other tracks on the album included songs by Will.I.Am, Fergie and Florence + The Machine. I'm not surprised Lana wanted to be involved in a movie with such themes of the American dream, struggling and social classes as her album(s) have these themes running through. (Social classes less so). A music video was released which Lana appears in, with a shiny teardrop below her eye. This is the last track in the rate to not achieve one 11 score, however it did receive a consistent stack of scores and so appears at #8! o_1aF54DO60 TOP RATES: 10 CallumTheSats4 Cal Calum Sandé Mariah Scary Regina 9 Jester Kath Luciano Acoustic JosephVickers1D Vidcapper
  3. So glad 'It's Time' is looking to become a hit. I thought it might underperform for a while. Now please make 'On Top Of The World' single #3. :D :D

  5. This is just bad. Even worse than 'Yung Rapunxel' which was horrific and this will do absolutely nothing. If this came on in a club I'd probably leave the dancefloor.
  6. I blame Lana for the fact I'm on this :P . Also, I've been out of breath this week with the 42 posts I've made, 150+ feels impossible. :o
  7. Avril Lavigne vs. Sharkbear. Sounds like a Poundland B Movie.
  8. 9 OFF TO THE RACES AVERAGE RATING: 7.29 "Yo I'm off to the races, laces, leather on my waist is, tight and I am falling down..." "God I'm so crazy, baby, sorry that I'm misbehaving" http://i40.tinypic.com/3d0u0.png Next up is another album track from 'Born To Die'. 'Off To The Races' was one of the first songs leaked online before the album, and it also had a video which Lana had made, which has since been removed. Either way, this track proves very popular with you guys considering the only other album track left from both of the albums is 'Dark Paradise'. When listening, it sounds like this song is actually three songs incorporated together. The verses are slow and sound old-spirited, the chorus is very fast paced and panicky/manic, using a variety of different lyrics each time, and the bridge sounds very vulnerable. Generally, the song appears to be about a clueless lover who is in love with someone but cannot deal with her feelings. There also references to Kurt Cobain with lyrics such as "cocaine heart" but this isn't surprising, seeing as she cites him as one of her major musical inspirations. There are also references to "Coney Island" as well as gambling and genuinely losing your mind tragically. It is a very sincere song with the last line "You are my one true love" being repeated. The song however shows the strong theme of determination "he has me by my heart" and "leather on my waist is, tight and I am falling down" suggest this, and it is also hinted that she cannot easily control her misbehaving. Perhaps 'casino oasis' and the theme of addiction are what caused this behaviour. The bridge in my eyes is the most notable part of the song, because it links this quite fast paced track in places back into the rest of the album, and also, there is almost a sound of breaking down when she admits her man is looking beautiful and she would be alone without him. I rated this the highest from the 'Born To Die' because of the smart lyrics, and the very catchy chorus. I included a very lively remix of 'Off To The Races' to work in contrast with the vintage title, and to show its potential as a dance track, if it was commercially remixed. 9. 10 WITHOUT YOU AVERAGE RATING: 7.23 "I even think I found God, in the flashbulbs of your pretty cameras" http://i41.tinypic.com/9kxyxl.jpg The first track in the top 10 comes from... 'Without You'! The track is taken from the deluxe edition of the standard 'Born To Die' album, and is the last track from the three tracks to be revealed in the countdown. It appears to be a bit of a fan favourite which is a good thing, especially as it isn't as publicised as often as other Lana tracks. It speaks of insecurities and even though she feels like she has a place being famous and in front of cameras, it doesn't mean anything without her love interest by her side. The lyrics almost sound desperate and this really brings out her vulnerability, another recurring theme of desperation and the desire to be loved throughout the whole album. The chorus is reasonably catchy, and IMO, Lana can perform this track very well live. It did reasonably well on scoring, managing 7 scores of 9 or higher, which has helped it just scrape into the top 10! tzllQ1pilec TOP RATES: 11 HausofKubrick Luciano 10 cookie_monster Ashley
  10. 'Summertime Sadness' was definitely not released in the UK last year. The music video was released on youtube about a year ago though, but only Germany and a few other European countries got it originally. It went straight from 'National Anthem' to 'Ride' here. Not that it particularly matters, because it's going to be a hit after all, which makes me really happy!! :D
  11. I'm team Charlie on this one, not just because I like her more as a housemate, but because I find her misunderstood and she clearly worries about offending people, and everyone has their flaws. I thought Hazel handled it pretty well until Charlie explained what she meant (Having too much alcohol and BB intervening) which she then went off the rails. She did say Charlie was aggressive (or was being aggressive) and then flat out denied it which didn't do her any favours in the argument. Charlie is a bit of a fail at times and she does need to be told what she's done wrong, as anyone would, but I really think she has a good heart. Hazel had already annoyed me in the episode when one of the twins (Joe?) asked if she was okay and she went off on a rant saying this is why she can't show any emotion and I found it a bit rude, considering someone who likes her was just trying to check up on her.
  12. With all the discussion of Lana, I'm going to take this opportunity and plug the Lana rate results currently going on in Indie, 'Alternative and Specialist Forum'. Will be revealing some of the top 10 soon!

  14. 11 THIS IS WHAT MAKES US GIRLS AVERAGE RATING: 7.13 "Baby's table dancing at the local dive. Cheering our names in the pink spot light, drinking cherry schnapps in the velvet night" http://i43.tinypic.com/faa5tz.jpg Just missing out on the top 10 is 'This Is What Makes Us Girls'. This is the album closer for the standard album of 'Born To Die'. Lana is in full story telling mode here and this, is the only song, on the whole double album that doesn't speak of romance or a romantic relationship. The lyrics are very narrative in style, and helps to put Lana Del Rey in some form of context. Her life, the struggles she's been through, her issues with friends. She talks about meeting her friend who was 'swaying in the wind' and then getting involved in a bad group, before spiraling out of control with alcohol, vandalism and breaking the law. When stuff got worse, her parents chose to send her away, and she was waving goodbye to her only friends on the train platform. A pretty tragic story and the strong theme of sadness which is present in so many songs and the vocal style used throughout the whole album. It was initially a fan favourite with fans wanting it to become a single, however this rate has it at #11 for favourite Lana tracks. I do wish this was a single because the music video could have been spectacular. It did achieve some really high scores, but a lot of the scores were also lower which is why it hasn't finished higher. Maybe next time! 15. 12 AMERICAN AVERAGE RATING: 7.10 "Your skin so gold and brown. Be young. Be dope. Be proud. Like an American..." http://i42.tinypic.com/2hr0as8.jpg Last of the album tracks from 'Paradise' is 'American' (The single, 'Ride' is still to come). On first listen, the track didn't appear very instant, but be warned, parts are very catchy and will not dislodge from your brain. The American dream is also publicised and explored here, which is another running theme through some of the album. The lyrical content is actually quite happy for Lana standards, suggesting that nobody can compare to her love interest. They also share the same music taste in Elvis and Bruce Springsteen and attend parties. You guys clearly like it because it only missed the top 10 by a couple of positions, perhaps it's less controversial or has a better balance of sombre singing and more uplifting themes than some of the tracks below it. 16. I really hated 'Climax', I found the vocals completely awful and unlistenable, and the lyrics made me cringe far too much. 'Scream' was better, but not a patch on the three hits from the album before.
  17. It seems a lot of my favourite songs at the moment are battling it out at the bottom of the iTunes top 40... 'Home', 'Summertime Sadness' and 'It's Time'... I hope they can all get there officially in the next couple of weeks because they're all solid tracks. Would be nice to clear some of the deadwood out too.
  18. Dan evicted! :w00t: Saying that, he did become more bearable by the end. Quite fitting that a twist finished him in the house!
  19. I swear I'm the only person on the forum that doesn't particularly like Sophie. I just find her a bit cold. I still rank her above Dan though, just. He's had much lower lows in this process and though he can be warmer, he can just undo it all with bitchy times. Although Sam hasn't done that much, he does seem pleasant. I'd still like Dan to be evicted today but I'd rather the twins or Dexter went if there was the choice. :(

  21. 13 COLA AVERAGE RATING: 7.05 "My pussy tastes like Pepsi-Cola" http://i44.tinypic.com/mcstjb.png Next up is controversial 'Cola'. It contains the bizarre lyric "My pussy tastes like Pepsi-Cola" in which responses have been "WTF" and "Is she serious?". Lana hit back at criticism saying that it is what her boyfriend thinks. Even when you look past the controversy, the track boasts a good chorus which sounds like the love child of 'Ride' and 'Gods and Monsters'... And ironically ranks somewhere between them! The song explores sexual desires and responses to sexual desires, which relates to the erotic theme carried through the album. Some have rated 'Cola' as a stand out to the 'Paradise' side of the album, whilst others feel as if it doesn't quite work. d2GmXi-CqOY TOP RATES: 11 Cal 10 O Mie d'Bartoli Kath cookie_monster Mariah Scary
  22. 14 GODS AND MONSTERS AVERAGE RATING: 6.95 "If I get a little prettier, can I be your baby? You tell me life isn't that hard..." http://i40.tinypic.com/15cd7wn.png Just beating 'Body Electric' by 0.01 is 'Gods & Monsters'. The track, taken from 'Paradise' speaks openly about the loss of innocence using some raunchy lyrics. The vocals employed here are quite slow and groany but that seems to definitely help the atmosphere that is being built up here. It is also suggested that not only love, but also fame and alcohol contributed to the loss of innocence. With lines such as "In the land of Gods and Monsters I was an angel, looking to get f***ed hard", the song did make a noticable impression on its audiences. There are also references to Jim Morrison in the chorus. The song could be seen as also trying to mold yourself into something when you don't really fit in. Although it did not get a single 11 from the raters, it clearly made an impressive impact on a few because it has a nice stack of 10s and 9s under its belt. 23. 'Already Gone' by Kelly Clarkson was another undeserved flop, such a beautiful song - It did get good music channel support and the controversy of the instrumental being labelled as almost identical to 'Halo' I thought would have helped it out more. In reality, I don't think there was any going back after 'I Do Not Hook Up'...
  24. 'Figure 8' by Ellie Goulding :( . I know it was in heavy rotation on Radio 1 but I'm unsure how it did on other radio stations and music channels, but after the massive hit 'Anything Could Happen' was, I expected it to do better because it sounds just as massive. The reality was that it probably got overshadowed. As other people have previously mentioned, 'C'Mon' by Ke$ha was also a big underperformance. Perhaps for similar reasons to 'Figure 8' even though it got strong music channel play and a complete lack of radio.
  25. 15 BODY ELECTRIC AVERAGE RATING: 6.94 "My clothes still smell like you, and all the photographs say that you're still young" http://i40.tinypic.com/2h3dijr.jpg First track in the top 15 is 'Body Electric'. It was one of the first songs performed from 'Paradise', which were performed around the time Lana took part in BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend (we were unaware that 'Yayo' would later be added to the tracklist). It's got a catchy chorus seems to be about letting go with some very deep words and lines in the verses, although I have a little difficulty in understanding what it is about because it feels like Lana's stitched some random lyrics together, particularly mentioning the word 'suicide' and then 'grinding in the pale moonlight' although perhaps the link is obvious, as with a lot of her other material. Is happiness really happiness or just an illusion? Can you still tragically enjoy yourself even when you have the underpinnings of sadness on your mind? Perhaps it's about letting go of a sad emotional relationship and feeling okay. It might also be about not feeling romantically and emotionally connected to a partner, however when you both let yourselves go and have fun, the connection is re-establised. Hence the broken record or 'broken mind'. It did get rated an 11 as well as four 10s, but received mostly average votes. 'Ride', 'American', 'Cola' and 'Gods & Monsters' are still to come from 'Paradise' in this rate. If anyone can help with the explanation of this track, then feel free to comment, as lyrically, it seems one of the most difficult to understand.
