  1. HDD is always a little bit out when they put up "final" figures which is why you have to go looking at the Billboard ones but then again HDD work on estimates so that's probably why Mastodon reaching the top 10 after Crack The Skye missed out last time at 11  would probably say Crack The Skye is a better album but The Hunter is damn good
  2. I consider myself quite open minded when I listen to music but I just found this to be awful Metallica did the S&M stuff earlier in their career with the orchestras and it worked because it mixed. Lou Reed's vocals mixed with a guitar riff that goes on for about 3 minutes solid is something that doesn't sound right and doesn't mix well. Even the differing guitar riffs towards the end and hearing Hetfield can't save it
  3. reminds me very much of the Boxcar Racer days, I don't mind it though because I liked that album be interesting to see what the rest of the album is like though, another Boxcar Racer album wouldn't sell to those millions of punk fans who have expected the "old" Blink back I'm not surprised they've gone in this way though because the pop-punk genre is owned by newer bands such as Four Year Strong, Set Your Goals, The Wonder Years etc and they might be a bit more inside the mainstream that the 3 mentioned bands but in the punk fanbase, those 3 are the top dogs at the moment so any sort of "old style" album would have to be a good one and feel modern - if that makes any sort of sense :D

should be around 215-230k at final which is good for the climate of buying albums in the US, unless HDD's predictions are out which doesn't happen too much
  5. album going to be £3.99 at Amazon on Monday as it will be "album of the week" as an MP3 download http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/search/ref=sr_n...;qid=1302294933 it's not available yet but you can see the price, well worth it for a very good return to form for the Foo Fighters B)
  6. whole album streaming here it's not Chuck but then again it probably never was going to be. I quite like it actually, good mixture of catchy choruses, some fast songs and some slow ones. Jessica Kills is probably the best song on the album I reckon despite it sounding a tad like Still Waiting which isn't a bad thing return to form after Underclass Hero for me
  7. I don't think anyone could deny that Axl Rose hasn't written some of the best rock songs of all time, but I think the idea of being a pain in the arse is basically due to his contempt for people who pay money to go and see his band when they could have just not bothered I know it seems to be in his mind that rockstars are supposed to turn up late for their gigs, like they did in the older days but when gig tickets are expensive as they are nowadays, it's just showing complete and utter contempt for the audience - probably plenty in most of the tours who could only stay to a certain time due to trains/other transport leaving at a certain time and he turns up an hour late meaning they are leaving an hour late despite paying the full price to watch the full concert. Might be a "biased press" but he doesn't really do himself much favours by actually doing what he does with the turning up late/waking up late for festivals etc as for The Darkness, I quite enjoyed Permission To Land and I'd rather see them than a lot of the poor lineup that is at Download this year, although it's blown out of the water by Sonisphere if you are a rock fan
  8. Rise Against doing really well with Endgame, first top 30/40 album in the UK, 2nd top 10 in Australia and should be their 3rd top 10 in the US on Tuesday/Wednesday with it being predicted to debut in the top 2 B) shame they can't do better in the UK but I guess they aren't the sort of thing radio wants to play or people want to buy
  9. one of my favourite albums of the year so far, not exactly the biggest fan of the band although I liked the first few EPs, Casually etc the last EP out at the tail end of 2010 showed what they could do and this has continued into this new album. I don't really think there is a bad track on this album although my favourites are Old Hymns, Aftertaste, Spinning Over The Island (which reminds me very much of Escape Artists Never Die) and Broken Foundation which features a guitar solo in it, something FFAF aren't well known for using in their songs
  10. never mind The Wanted, who the hell is buying that abysmal version of True Faith on CD :D if you really want to give money to Comic Relief, just give them money by donating online or in one of those boxes that are probably about. I can't understand for the life of me who would seriously want that song in their music library. Either that or download the original by New Order and donate instead of buying a song that really sounds like they stuffed a Dalek up George Michael's backside
  11. another new song from the album called Blood In My Eyes PyJCY9FwbR4 not as instant as Screaming Bloody Murder but I quite like this as well. Sounds a bit like newer Green Day mixed with My Chemical Romance's The Black Parade days
  12. I think the only thing that slightly worries me is we haven't had the "recorded version" of it yet, even the Radio 1 DJs were playing versions that were ripped from the Youtube video. Might lose some of the intensity when it's recorded but hopefully that will be unfounded as it's a great return to form I've heard at least 3-4 "live" versions of new Foos material off the internet and I have to say I'm encouraged for this album, big fan of the earlier stuff but I've gone off them as they've gone softer in recent years
  13. Screaming Bloody Murder (the album) is due out on March 29th in the US, so I'm guessing 28th for the UK with the Monday releases here
  14. about 5 or 6 plays, it is really starting to grow on me like I thought it would B) stuff like Strangers, Bigger Than Us, Holy Ghost, The Power & The Glory and Bad Love are very good tracks, it's not the previous album but then again who wants an album that sounds the same as the first one incidentally it's album of the week at Amazon on mp3 format, got it for £3.99 as it's that price until Sunday night :)
  15. heard this on another website before but I do quite like this. Sounds very much like a Green Day song at the beginning and then it kicks in, possibly a return to the heavier Chuck days?
  16. not as instant as To Lose My Life was but I'll give it a few more plays before I gather my thoughts on it saw a negative review of it on the Drowned In Sound website and noticed a song they did when they were a band called Fear Of Flying and I'm quite surprised they didn't continue in that vein actually as this is quite good. This is probably a bit similar to the last Gaslight Anthem album American Slang for me though, I didn't think too much instantly of that and I absolutely love it now HLVH1t7QXxg
  17. I'd disagree there actually, rock and indie fans I'd think are more loyal when it comes to their band probably because they feel an idenity compared to the usual stuff that comes out on ITunes that's urban/R&B and sounds the same as the stuff that has came before it for example, bands like AC/DC have a massive following and bands like the Manic Street Preachers (not on the same scale) have their loyal fanbase who will buy every single/album and go to every tour. I guess what I'm trying to say is somebody might like a song by an artist on ITunes (lets say it's Far East Movement or that Glee song which is in the top 10) but are they guaranteed to like the next thing they put out? I would say not. Whereas fans of the Manics will buy the album, go to the tour and buy the singles that come from that album despite having the album that those singles come from I'm not saying somebody like Rihanna might not have the same sort of thing but I'd think rock band fans are more likely to do it because they might think "if I don't, then this band might cease to exist if the sales aren't good enough" whereas Rihanna sells lots of copies of her albums so casual fans might think "she's sold enough, doesn't matter if she loses one sale". AC/DC is probably the wrong example to use at the start actually as they have millions of fans and I doubt everybody buys everything they put out or go to the tours but I'd guess the Manics are probably a good example
  18. Rocksound magazine did a retort to it as well, geared towards the bands they highlight but it's the same sort of thing as the other article http://www.rocksound.tv/features/article/i...and-utter-moron The Guardian article will be changed next year if "rock" bands such as Coldplay or U2 have big selling albums this year, not that I'd really class them as rock but I'm sure the media would paint them as that
  19. what the Radio 1 guy means isn't "brilliant" but something mainstream and watered down so it can sell to people and be played on the radio plenty of stuff that has been brilliant rock wise away from the charts this year - Deftones came back to form with the brilliant Diamond Eyes which is very much right up there with the classic White Pony that they released almost a decade ago. The Dillinger Escape Plan continue to make great albums and Option Paralysis is no exception. A lot of people were disappointed by the Pulled Apart By Horses debut album last year as most of the songs were from their previous EPs but more likely because I never bothered with their EPs, I thought the debut album was fantastic plenty of other albums such as The Bled, The Chariot, The Showdown and for the hardcore punk lovers, Comeback Kid who made great albums last year. Just because it doesn't sell to ITunes buyers (who basically mostly buy rubbish) doesn't mean that bands haven't exactly brought out great material mainstream wise I could mention Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine who have had success in the US and UK last year but I don't think either albums were up to their previous material. Bullet will never beat their first EP and debut album The Poison and Avenged Sevenfold have fallen away since their first two albums but obviously gained in mainstream success because MTV and sources like that highlight them

shame to see White Lies so low down but I guess people are waiting for the album which might get top 3 and then fall quite quickly :( people have a go at Matt Cardle's song but that Jessie J song is abysmal, not a surprise it's selling well on ITunes though

I guess I must be somebody who likes to give back to music or something then, if I find an album that I think is good then I will almost certainly buy it if it's within reasonable price or has been released in this country (my genre is a bit dodgy at times for this) I'll try and see the band or artist at a gig when they come to this country as well as I like to give them money back that way without the label interferring. I have to agree with the ITunes theory mentioned though, lots of people tend to "cherry pick" albums instead of actually buying the whole thing and it counting as a sale so that probably affects sales as well On the basis of Cole then I won't say much cause I don't think much of her talent and there is probably plenty of people here who might take offence but she's been on a massive rating TV show for months which pretty much acts as the advertisement campaign for it, so I'd be surprised if she doesn't end up with a high selling album with all that publicity even if the quality isn't up to any sort of scratch. Swift had the hype indeed and I have no idea what her album is like but she's quite talented so I'm not surprised that she sold the amount of albums she sold worldwide think I bought about 30+ albums either digitally or phyiscally last year, will probably look for much more this year as a lot of my favourite artists are back with new material :)

probably an old chestnut this one: ;) I hate when the BPI hide behind the "it's the bad old illegal downloading" story when they are going on about album sales. Now I'm not going to admit that it doesn't make a dent because it almost certainly does, but if the album released is good, gets good reviews and good word of mouth, then it will almost certainly sell as people have no problem paying for quality. Look at Take That in the UK selling 1.8m copies in about 5-6 weeks, Taylor Swift selling 1m albums in a week in the US, a feat that happened quite a lot in the 90s/early 2000s with Britney, N'Sync and Eminem but seems to be quite unheard of in recent times. The BPI (and the RIAA in the US) are annoyed because nowadays consumers have a "choice" when it comes to albums, it might not be a moral one to download an album before buying but it is any more moral than somebody making a bad album and then expecting somebody to pay £10 for it? album sales were better in previous years because people didn't have access to technology and had to take the music reviewers' word for an album, which could have been false because of backhanders from the record label and so on and also because bands in the 80s/90s would release better quality albums than we get nowadays so people would have no problem buying. I'm not afraid to admit that I will download most of the bands (not really chart based if I'm honest) albums before I buy them, but 75-80% of the bands I listen to now and have seen live in at a gig have basically came from either a download or something like Myspace/Purevolume to hear their stuff. I understand that "try before you buy" doesn't work in any other industries like food or that but unfortunately for the BPI/RIAA, it's a choice that they don't want the consumer to have but it's there anyway, back to the topic about HMV  I was a student once upon a time and I'd normally buy music from my local independent music store or the local Fopp which was normally cheaper than Virgin/HMV even on new releases. Once I got a debit card and a student account, I basically stopped using stuff like HMV and started using Amazon/Play which I do to this day. I don't think HMV will fail to the level of Woolies but I reckon they might try and build up their online store a bit more as I find that's quite reasonable for music/DVDs and things like that. Zavvi and Woolies exist online so it's not as if HMV would fail to the level that the company would be finished, although you'll probably see more shops close down before it gets better
  23. I liked the song in question but I thought Sum 41's best stuff came when they did Chuck as it's a very underrated album. Shame they didn't continue with that heavier sound in the next album which wasn't that good at all (Underclass Hero)

considering you had to pay £3-4 for the CD, I guess campaigns weren't so "plastic" (is that the right word?) as they are now when it's some faceless person on a Facebook group going on about multibuying a song so it can beat a reality TV contestant. Back then it was people actually going out to buy the singles so there wasn't as much multibuying as you can do on with computers nowadays There was a face behind the RATM campaign for last year but it was pretty much as plastic as the ones this year when it was just people multibuying a song to do the exact same. I might like the song but I couldn't see the point in downloading it 10-20 times and wasting money like that

was the Teletubbies similar to what happened a few years later when Eminem - Stan was stopped by a media campaign of "who wants this song at No1 when you can buy Bob?" by stuff like The Sun who basically kept pushing it as the alternative. Then again it did beat Westlife which was slightly amusing when they thought they were going to breeze to the top spot then again I can't really see where the campaign could come against the Spice Girls, I'm guessing it was just the popularity of Teletubbies that year
