I mean that pick makes sense but it seems to me this is at best a neutral pick strategically. If I were him I'd have at least gone for someone from a state that isn't going to be carried by the Dems by 30 percentage points regardless.
The impact of a VP pick on their home state often isn't that big anyway.
What is important is that if Biden wins, Harris will leave the Senate and her seat will be up for grabs - either in a special election or by appointment by the Governor. A lot of the other picks like Warren and Baldwin represent states that either have a Republican governor or would be vulnerable in a special election under a Democratic president - with how close the Senate is likely to be in November, picking a VP from California means this won't be an issue.

Slightly odd looking shortlist. 2019's was great, the best I remember in ages.
Definitely a shame for Rina Sawayama not making it. Suspected The 1975 wouldn't - 'A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships' probably deserved to win it but it's been recognised by nearly everyone that 'Notes on a Conditional Form' is a drop off in quality and probably a bit too messy for the Mercury.

The Dems look like they may struggle to win control of the Senate in the midterms as the map is stacked against them this year, but that's almost irrelevant in terms of impeachment as for a conviction you need two thirds of the Senate to vote in favour anyway. If the Dems can win back the House in November (which I think is more likely than not, despite the gerrymandering) then they'll be able to file articles of impeachment and even if the Senate votes it down, if the evidence is damning enough then Trump would be up against it in 2020. Assuming there's no criminal charges before then.
Of course, he could fire Mueller this week and then all bets would be off:

Oh. The result of ONE day on a NON-FOOKING-BINDING referendum?
Ok. Let's look at it.
52%.
Does it reach 66%?
Nope.
Anywhere close?
Nope.
Did the young vote for it?
Nope.
Did the old?
Yes.
Did all nations vote for it.
Nope. Half.
Oh.
So my question:
How the HELL can the government push this through??
One more and you're warned.

I perfectly understand the concept of free speech. Mr Littlejohn is entitled to hold those views, just as companies are entitled to withdraw their advertising from his newspaper if they think that what he's said is beyond the pale.
I'm not sure what this has to do with the fact that, of all of the dozens of national newspaper columnists and thousands of people in the public eye in this country, you picked him as someone who you would like to see in charge.

But nobody *asked* me to comment on the content - and in most cases, members of this forum seem much happier making assumptions on what my comments would be, rather than waiting for my *actual* opinions on any given subject.
Even when I do post my opinions, people go out of their way to misinterpret them, so why keep asking?
Presumably because you put his name forward as an 'alternate PM', and it would be interesting to see you justify your choice in light of the article. It's a discussion forum, not a non-sequiter forum.

Technically, Muslims are not a race - in any case, it's not racist to express concern about a *legitimate* threat. Also, I've never claimed *all* Muslims are terrorists - that would be absurd.
European nationals brainwashed by radical Muslims from the Middle East.
Radicalisation is largely done online. There's no immigration policy that's stopping that.
This is an absurd argument anyway as I don't particularly want Turkey to join the EU - but running around screaming "ISIS! ISIS!" is pathetic. Presumably by the same logic your preference for Trump over Clinton means that you agree with the Ku Klux Klan.

Richard Littlejohn really showed himself to be PM material this week.

If they want to reduce the number of fixtures they should scrap the League Cup (or whatever it's called this year).
One idea would be to take the teams in European competitions out of the League Cup, as they've got six more games than everyone else during the autumn anyway. Then again, given the gulf between the top 6 and rest I'm not sure that's the way forward.

And so should London and Brighton & Hove.
I mean... I want the whole country to stay in the Customs Union and Single Market, but it's a bit disrespectful towards the Good Friday Agreement and everything that led to it to suggest that it's equally valid to try and get the same deal for other places in the UK.
