  1. Death is not an appropriate punishment for burglary.
  2. City looking pretty terrifying the last couple of weeks. Watford have had a good start to the season, and didn't actually play that badly given they wound up losing 6-0. United have been very efficient in the last couple of matches. Completely switched off for most of the game once they'd gone ahead and a better team would have nabbed an equaliser, yet they somehow still won 4-0. Lukaku and Matic have obviously improved them but I'm not convinced they're 15-20 points better this season, which they'd need to be to win the league.
  3. I suppose it depends on 1. how open the selection for the list was under AMS, and 2. what the constituencies were like under STV. I could see a way that the West Yorkshire seats could be done under STV that the Tories would only get one MP elected in the one covering Shipley and Davies could be pushed out. In an "inner South London" one I suppose we'd do well enough that Hoey might survive.
  4. Expecting the Dildo Brothers to doom us by waiting too long to sack Bilic and letting Palace steal Benitez. Tomorrow night is going to be a struggle.
  5. Tbh my support for STV is at least partially due to the assumption that it would be the most likely system to get rid of Kate Hoey.
  6. STV! STV! For local government at least. I'm still quite fond of AV, and baffled by the idea that it's somehow worse than FPTP.
  7. Glenn Hoddle talking absolute nonsense as usual when asked if we should try and play a team similar to that we'll use against better opposition. "No, you play the team that gets you the three points". We've had such a problem in the past that we expect the England team and squad to be automatically comprised of whichever English players are in good form at the time. I understand that big team bias is still very much in effect, but establishing a regular side and making sure they get used to playing together is absolutely essential for international football these days. Not that any of this has much impact on the Malta game.
  8. Nursing is an example where a vast proportion of graduates would be employed in the public sector, so it makes absolute sense for the government to subsidise those degrees through bursaries.
  9. In response to the title: No, it's not.
  10. Maybe at Old Trafford!
  11. Who said anything about a specific employer? If there's a lower supply of graduates for a particular job, it will pay more and start to look like a more attractive option. As others have said, there's no point in the government subsidising the degree if the employer is the one who will benefit.
  12. Apparently the talk of City offering Sterling is guff. Arsenal demanded him and cash for Sanchez, City were willing to give them Denayer :D I'm still hoping that we give in and stump up the cash for Carvalho over the next couple of days, but given our owner / DoF / supreme leader is ON FUCKING HOLIDAY, it doesn't look likely.

It's an opinion polls thread. Our stance could well have an effect on our standing in the opinion polls. Not difficult.
  14. Wonder if Arsenal will go in for a few panic buys as they did in 2011 after losing 8-2 to United at this point in the season.

You do realise we vote for MEPs every five years, right?
  16. I would expect at least four. United and City should both finish top, Chelsea and Liverpool may have a scrap on their hands but should be at least second. Spurs on paper could get the better of Dortmund over two legs if that's what it comes to, but Wembley may be an issue again.
  17. Laughing at Spurs.
  18. That's convenient. It's not really useful to try and separate out the political and media establishments - they're inextricably linked in many ways, not least of which in that the majority of the time you hear from a senior politician it's through the media. But it was the Tories who could have experienced an electoral boost in UKIP target seats by promising a referendum - Labour didn't promise one, so the results in Labour-held seats UKIP were targeting wouldn't have been any different.
  19. You're making the gigantic assumption again that the "elite" overwhelmingly backed Remain, and therefore the result was a total rejection of said elite in favour of a majority of ordinary voters. If those running the press aren't part of the elite then the whole term is meaningless. As for whether Cameron could have chosen not to promise a referendum - there was a clear strategic case for it in terms of doing slightly better in an election, but while that explains his decision it doesn't justify it. As for whether UKIP could have held the balance of power and demanded one anyway, that's a massive hypothetical. I'm not sure that the referendum pledge was a deciding factor in the dozen or so seats UKIP would have needed to win off the Tories to be a significant factor in a hung parliament.

No, I never mentioned what would happen after we left. You're merely assuming that as it's an argument you're happy to deflect with "well we'll find out eventually". What makes you think that the EU won't have a natural advantage in negotiations?
  22. Soy Adrián posted a post in a topic in News and Politics
...then deduct the UK's figure from the EU total? Whichever way you look at it, the original point was that the size of the EU's economy puts it in a position of strength in negotiations. This is inarguable. Presumably you'd expect the UK to hold most of the cards when it comes to negotiating a trade deal with Serbia, for example. It's almost impressive how you're trying to stall the argument.

Then look at the GDP of the EU, the USA and the UK. This is not difficult.
  24. Please, tell me more about Venezuela.
  25. "Right-wing Hitler-lovers" isn't particularly subjective or time-dependent in this context, and that is what this point originally came from.
