"Right There" is tacky as hell. Her solo singles have largely got worse and worse except that "Wet" probably isn't quite as bad as RT. "Poison" was pretty good, "Don't Hold Your Breath" obviously realised it had a killer chorus and insisted on repeating it ad infinitum - thus diminishing the appeal.

I think even if When Love Takes Over had sold more than Sexy Chick in the UK, Sexy Chick would still be seen as his signature song, because it was also a massive hit in the US, whilst When Love Takes Over flopped big-time, and also Sexy Chick has had massive impact on chart music, with almost every other song seeming like a clone of it, whilst there haven't really been very many When Love Takes Over clones.
There was "What A Feeling", I think that's it :P

it's not as good as Y3X but it's better than the other two.
I don't actually see what's so bad about 'kiss the stars' tbh... I mean, yes, it's generic, but so what? 'different' isn't always good, especially considering that songs like 'give me everything' and 'where them girls at' already fall under generic pop. her voice isn't half bad on the song either. only low point I can really see with it is the video, which is horrible, but so is the video for nicki minaj's 'stupid hoe' in a very similar way and that's getting cheers all around (the song, not so much).
The difference is, big foreign producers can do generic pop and make it sound vaguely interesting. Afrojack completely makes "Give Me Everything", it'd be nowhere as interesting without his production - see "International Love" for proof of that. "Kiss The Stars" sounds cheap and tacky, and Pixie Lott can't get away with excruciatingly bad lyrics in the same way that someone like Pitbull can, because at least with him it's a little surprising. Did you ever think someone would stoop so low as to rhyme "kodak" with "kodak"? No, but it's actually quite funny. I can't really see people making Facebook lyrics out of any of "Kiss The Stars"' lyrics.

That's true, but there was an awful lot of tacky pop songs, which aren't any better than Kiss the Stars being massive hits last year (see: Yeah 3x, Give Me Everything, Where Them Girls At, etc.). You just didn't get that in previous years, to that extent.
The year-end top 10 of 2011 wasn't that generic, but I think it must've been the most MOR (or Heart FM-friendly, or adult contemporary, or however you want to put it) top 10 we've had in the UK in a long time. Not that that's a bad thing.
Give Me Everything >>>>>>>>>>> Kiss The Stars.
The production is so much better it's untrue. Where Them Girls At is standard Guetta but the melody in the chorus is pretty strong, Yeah 3x less so but it's still got a bit more class than Kiss The Stars.

I have to disagree slightly, a five minute song is five minutes for a reason. I dont question the artist, it's their creation, and I trust they made it that way for a purpose. But then, one lf my most favourite bands in the world is Opeth, and they regularly write 10 minute opuses...
Of course it's down to the artist but anything over 4:30 becomes inefficient to play on radio during the day. With dance tracks it's far easier to make edits because it's a far more edited song in the first place, with rock and metal it's far more difficult. I remember hearing "Everybody Hurts" being sung on the X Factor where everything has to be in 2-3 minute doses, it cut a good 60% of the song out. Horrific.

With regards to Pixie, I think All About Tonight is worse than Kiss the Stars. I don't like Kiss the Stars either though. I hope in the near future the UK public can go back to having the mindset that generic songs are bad, and that artists should try interesting things in their songs. The 2011 year-end charts really scared me, so I hope things can start changing ASAP.
What Do You Take Me For? was briliant. We need more of that sort of stuff. I was surprised when I found out who it was produced by aswell, it sounds so different to most of his other songs.
The year-end charts weren't that bad, the top 10 showed a reasonable amount of variety given the first six months of the year.

Yep, annoying indeed. Heaven forbid a single lasts more than 4 mins, eh....? -_-
I can understand edits usually, a five minute song with some slightly more repetitive bits being cut out so the whole thing is 3:30 to 4 minutes (hello Skrillex!) makes sense but this is a completely pointless one and it detracts from the song slightly IMO. Not that it'll be a hit anyway, shame it's not 2003 any more in that respect.

It'd be bloody typical if Lana made top 10 on iTunes over the weekend only for the single version to plummet straight back out again when the album's added on Monday morning.
On Kworb there's a sea of green. Of the ones that come up straight from me loading (the top 28) only Flo Rida x2, SHM, Coldplay, Rihanna (YDO), Pitbull's second version and Drake are white and only Cover Drive, Taio, Ed Sheeran and M83 are light red - the other 17 are all gaining. Gotye's slowly hauling "Wild Ones" in to go to #4.

I think quality-wise it's on par with the two, it was just nothing new about 'Judas', people don't want to buy another version of the same song.
I get the feeling that "Judas" wouldn't have been as big a hit as the other two even had it been released before them. Maybe because it sounds like such a deliberate attempt to ape "Bad Romance" that I can't imagine it ever coming first, I don't see her ever bothering to write it unless "Bad Romance" (and "Poker Face") had come first.
IMO "The Edge of Glory" was more akin to those two as it was the biggest obvious hit from the album and was a gentle progression from her older sound. BUT I don't want her to try and recreate it next time. She's obviously still got it in her to make more original hits, "Born This Way" in a funny way could make a great lead single for Album #3 if it wasn't for the lyrics as the production's fantastic and the disco route seems like a sensible one for her to go down without straying too far from her roots.

All of the top 5 will be in the UK top 40 announced this forthcoming Sunday.
Dat sentence.
Hopefully this means that the various strands that you could call 'alternative' have turned something of a corner in terms of mainstream recognition. Given that of that top 5 one was thought to be a big contender to be a #1 (how wrong we were) and another looks like a massive #1 in the making, the signs are good.
Oh, and "Video Games" to win although "Midnight City" is fantastic as well.
-
I'm probably being incredibly thick but I can only remember one of the songs left. I would have thought it'd be top 5 alongside "Holocene" actually, "Paradise" has underperformed a little as well although given I refused to accept for ages that I preferred it to "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" I'm not THAT surprisedto see it miss the top 10.
OH, just remembered one of the others.
...and now the other one, which I think I put quite high up.

Ayo Technology up to #49! I feel so honoured to be witnessing this. :) The fact that it's the best-selling of the current batch of 59p songs (which isn't new) is a testement to how fantastic it is. Although, this is nothing that we didn't already know.
Well it's miles worse than "The Edge of Glory" not to mention a load of others, so that's your theory out of the window :D
iTunes Chart: January 2012 (Part III)
in UK Charts
SHM are miles ahead with multiple versions and she's going to be overtaken by "Alone Again" tomorrow anyway
