There's been a ton of minor resurgences from adverts recently. Kanye's Power is a good call as that went top 40 again. Gossip's Heavy Cross reached #79 again off the back of an advert last week. Grouplove's Tongue Tied reached #81 from an advert the week before. The list goes on.
James Vincent McMorrow's Higher Love, heading for top 20/25 this week, is on the Lovefilm ad.
How did I forget "Power"? :o amazing song, amazing game it was advertising.
"Midnight City" could be added shortly as it's on a BBC montage of 2012. Not a commercial advertisement as such, but close enough?

Well, 3 pop songs is not the EPITOME of variety. Although Coldplay is leaning more to the alternative side. The other two are standard uplifting Dr. Luke pop songs.
It's not too bad though. I'm just relieved that Taio Cruz doesn't look to be getting another #1. :D
REALLY? "Domino" is as poppy as they come but Flo Rida is basically rapping over a dance track. I know that trend has been immensely popular in the last few years but it doesn't mean it's pure pop by any stretch. "Paradise" is far more of a pop song in terms of structure and feel.

2004 was a fantastic year for music but the top of the charts didn't reflect that in the slightest. Well, the singles at least. "Hopes and Fears" and"American Idiot" are actually the only #1 albums from that year (I'm excluding those which made it later) that I really like although you also had:
Aha Shake Heartbreak
Collision Course
Franz Ferdinand
Funeral
Hot Fuss
Kasabian
Silent Alarm
Start Something
Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge
Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)
You Are The Quarry
All of those had some commercial success, and album sales were very high so 2004 in general is a good argument for the idea that stronger sales periods coincide with stronger music. Although obviously all of those albums had great songs on them which didn't make #1, so maybe not

Actually they did make that film. It was called Der Untergang (Downfall) and although virtually every character in it was a Nazi the actual politics really weren't mentioned much as it was about the human element (It was also bloody good and one of the best war films ever in my view) which is exactly what The Iron Lady is about. A once powerful leader reduced to ill health reflecting on her glory days.
It also spawned some hilarious Youtube spoofs, although that's not really relevant to the argument

The fact that it's not a "political insight" is surely the problem.. One reviewer called it "Thatcher without the Thatcherism", which is a bit like making a film about Hitler and kind of missing out all the "Nazi stuff"...
But, hey, I guess this is what happens when you let the director of vapid fluff like "Mamma Mia" direct a film about an important political and historical figure, instead of getting someone like Ken Loach or Mike Leigh who both have incredible track records (as well as a fair few BAFTAs between them) for making films with deep and meaningful social statements....
Well exactly, it's not worth watching it if you want to see anything particularly insightful. There may well be another film made about her after she finally pops it by a Loach or a Leigh, which could be a far more interesting watch. "The Iron Lady" isn't really worth getting angry over though.
-
From what I've heard about "The Iron Lady" it doesn't attempt to be a deep political insight into all the shit that Th*tcher did, there's an awful lot it either missed out or skimmed over. I see that as a pretty pointless film really but I don't think it's a conscious effort to try and rewrite her legacy.

you didn't even mention their only good album.
they have sucked since Liberation transmission
I've only listened to "thefakesoundofprogress" once or twice, hence why I didn't mention it. I thought "The Betrayed" was a step in the right direction after "Liberation Transmission" because it brought back their heavier side which was absent from LT (apart from Everyday Combat).

Lostprophets release their fifth studio album "Weapons" on the 2nd of April, with teaser track / first single (who knows these days?) "Better Off Dead" available for free now on their Facebook page.
-----------------------------------------
Just downloaded the new track, not listened yet but VERY excited. I always liked them, "Start Something" and "Liberation Transmission" were solid albums but "The Betrayed" was where they realised their potential, one of my favourite albums of 2010 so I'm really pleased they're back. Hope they're playing Leeds this year.

I remember as a small kid the only albums my mum played in the car were "Different Class" and "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?". I loved all of the latter and knew pretty much every word, she used to skip the slightly creepier Pulp tracks but I loved "Disco 2000" - that was my first proper favourite song. I also remember listening to U2, Queen and Bruce Springsteen before my uncle got me into The Smiths and Green Day when I was about 10 or 11.

At least he'll actually do something as opposed to Obama just sitting on his hands for the next four years, continue to let the banksters ruin the country, sign off on even dodgier legislation which destroys the Constitution like the Indefinite Detention Act and SOPA (both of which Paul utterly opposes I believe...). The mainstream press dont like Ron Paul because he is the one candidate who's a bit of shit-stirrer... Where is the shit-stirring from the so-called "liberal" camp in the US coming from.. They all seem to be too busy hand-wringing and being apologists for O-bomber.... It's only people Cenk Uygur on the Young Turks, Keith Olbermann and bloody MATT DAMON of all people, who seem to be the only vaguely leftist voices of dissent.... And unfortunately, none of them are running for President...
He'd also reverse one of the few really good things Obama's done, tit for tat really.
