  1. We're going to be the last relevant party to have a full-time female leader. Christ.

I suppose the other aspect of that is that Clinton could come closer than any Democrat in two generations to winning Texas, stacking up loads more votes, but for no electoral college benefit. That won't be her strategy of course.
  3. It also shows how tactical many Olympic races are - athletes frequently win championships with times which would be nowhere near the best in the world in that given year. When you're not fully aware of where your rivals are, there's much more incentive to run at your absolute limit.

It's not dead, but it's a very long term trend away from the idea of listening to 12 or so songs in a row from the same artist unless you're already a fan. The vinyl format made it so it was difficult to do anything else. CD albums were wildly popular before downloads and streaming took off, partly as CD singles were a third the price of an album anyway. Downloads put paid to that, and streaming has accelerated the process whereby you can jump between releases, artists and genres with minimal effort. The idea of the single will last a long time because our music consumption is still largely based around individual songs. Albums are becoming increasingly a niche market, with more and more artists not even bothering to release them any more. It'll take a long time for them to completely die but that's the way it's going for many people.

Like Netflix and Chill crossed with Coronation Street. With that and Prestwich and Heywood, half of the new Greater Manchester constituencies sound like furniture stores. Don't even get me started on Altrincham and Tatton Park. I was enough of a middle class stereotype as it is.

I think it's a better idea that each constituency has a similar number of people.

So the Boundary Commission has published its recommended new constituencies to be used in UK General Elections from 2020 onwards (assuming it passes parliament this time). There's been plenty of headlines about who is likely to miss out as we go from 650 to 600 seats, but how will the changes affect your area? You can find the new boundaries here.

    It's also... incorrect?

    1. Tell us what that is, preferably while employing some grammar. 2. You've literally spent the last nine months screeching about how she's going to lose and how they should have picked Bernie. If you're a fan, you're a fucking useless one.

    You're not though, are you?
  11. Finger printing I presume, thought they'd switched to iris scanners.

Or, to quote the old British version, Churchill was an alcoholic the first time and a slobbering mess the second, and Attlee was terminally boring. Not that logic really applies to this election any more.

The old system popchartfreak refers to was where all 11-year-olds took the 11+, which determined whether you went to a grammar (good) or a secondary modern (less good). In most places this was abolished in favour of comprehensives, which as the name suggests were intended for everyone regardless of ability. In recent years, those with the means have often sent their kids to private school, leading to something approaching the old system but determined by ability to pay rather than ability to sit an exam at age 11. Of course the latter ended up being a proxy for the former anyway, given that in areas which still have the grammar system (I grew up in Trafford, which was one although it also had a number of largely good comprehensives and surprisingly shit private schools) many wealthy parents hire private tutors to make sure their little ones get into the "good" school. Having gone to a grammar myself, the standard of teaching was generally very good and I probably got a better education there than I would have elsewhere. However, I don't support the system as, even without the talent-money proxy which I mentioned, it creates a divide between pupils at a fairly arbitrary point in their education and can sometimes engender a superiority complex in some people. I even had one teacher in 6th form tell me that by going to a grammar I was better than any of my friends who went to a comprehensive - she refused to believe that a couple of them had got better GCSE results than me.
  14. Anything on topic?
  15. To be fair to Corbyn, most of the people he wishes were in his Shadow Cabinet are probably dead.
  16. Her point was never "he sacked me because I was black" though. Not even close. She was saying that had someone in a role as senior as his in almost any other profession acted as incompetently as he has, any investigation into their conduct would almost certainly touch upon the issue of race. Do you think she was lying about the rest of her story as well?
  17. Except that one of her central points is that it wouldn't look good for him given that she and Thangham Debonnaire are two of the only black women in the Shad Cab, and one of relatively few to ever hold a position that senior. Can't really say the same about white male pensioners.
  18. Seriously trying to compare racism with ageism? Okay.

I didn't watch S1+2 at the time and got into it with the second generation. Really enjoyed both series. Third gen was rubbish.
  20. There's also already plans to roll out superfast broadband across the whole country, it's just going rather too slowly. If Jez could have acknowledged that and set out a decent plan on how to improve it I might have been impressed. As it is, it just comes across like he's making it up on the fly. Don't even get me started on this after-work drinks fiasco.
  21. Compulsory mention of Marco Boogers.
  22. Only seen a handful of new releases this year but I'd rank them thus: 01 Captain America: Civil War (not perfect, but a great culmination of the MCU thus far) 02 Green Room (great, super tense) 03 Bone Tomahawk (very good although a difficult watch at times) 04 The Hateful Eight (excellently made, not sure what it was trying to achieve) 05 Deadpool (consistently entertaining but most of the best bits were in the trailer) 06 Suicide Squad (underwhelming in most ways but still fun) 07 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (enjoyable for spells but generally disappointing and makes very little sense)
  23. He's probably in it for a six month loan to get a few goals and crank up his wages for a move to China in January. Would be a very useful signing but Zaza interests me more, penalty antics aside.
  24. Dina Asher-Smith and Adam Gemili are both solid bets for a 200m medal. Both got close this time and there's more to come. Matt Hudson-Smith could well do the same in the 400m.

Elements of the far left have always had a shoddy record on rape and sexual assault if the implosion of the SWP a few years ago is anything to go by. The moral acrobatics some of them went through to defend Assange was dodgy at the time, it's even dodgier now.
