  1. Riot! is comfortably my favourite collection of songs, even though Brand New Eyes boasts far better production and sounds like the band wanted to sound.

This sounds like "Decode" by way of early material like "All We Know" and "Hello, Hello" - I like, a lot.

    Love all of these.

    15 Europe "The Final Countdown"

12 Band Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas?"

10 Queen & David Bowie "Under Pressure"

08 Men At Work "Down Under"

06 Survivor "Eye Of The Tiger"

    05 Blondie "Call Me"

    04 Madness "House of Fun"

03 Frankie Goes To Hollywood "The Power Of Love"

02 The Police "Every Breath You Take"

    01 Spandau Ballet "True"

-2 Kylie and Jason "Especially For You"

  3. i dont mind it when they rerelease as long as their is an EP for people already with that album.

However 'Bright Lights' is one of the few that is perfectly justified, and saved Ellie's career.

Bright Lights or The Fame Monster are justified because there's two thirds of a new album on there. I waited for the former instead of buying Lights, as I think a lot of others did.

  4. They'll continue to do the same every season until they win the Champions League. I can't see them winning it very soon though when they've got the likes of Barcelona to compete with

I have a feeling that Rafa Benitez may get the job now. They may feel he'll be able to get Torres at his best again

Surely Abramovich isn't that stupid :( there was talk recently of Hiddink coming back with Zola as his assistant - but then again, there's also been talk of Ancelotti joining West Ham

  5. Well, I knew Alejandro extremely well before the album release, and I'm not a Gaga fan (as I'm sure everybody knows ).

I haven't heard You and I yet, although I have heard a lot of people talk about it. Also Government Hooker I've heard a lot about.

A lot of people are saying that Scheisse song might do well, but I heard nobody talk about that song until like a couple of days ago, whilst the other songs I've heard being discussed for months.

There was a remix of Scheisse around even before BTW I think, so there's been a little hype around it. And it's being touted by many as an album standout.

  6. Wiz Khalifa - Black And Yellow. I know it was a hit in the UK but #5 was ridiculously low for it and it's not sold that much overall. Roll Up is also not doing very well (although it's not doing that well in the USA either, only top 20-ish there) :(

Oh and Lupe Fiasco - The Show Goes On as well.

This. Same with "Like a G6" as well.

  7. Top 10 update:

    1. 21 - ADELE

    2. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac

    3. Doo-Wops & Hooligans - Bruno Mars

    4. The Fame Monster - Lady GaGa

    5. No More Idols - Chase & Status

    6. Foo Fighters: Greatest Hits - Foo Fighters

    7. Now That's What I Call Music! 78 - Various Artists

    8. Pala - Friendly Fires

    9. Greatest Hits...So Far!!! - P!nk

    10. Last Night On Earth - Noah & The Whale

Today could be Adele's last day at #1 on iTunes. Although I actually wouldn't rule out Adele going back to #1 again in a few weeks.

I have a funny feeling she won't go back now - she's adamant there'll be no deluxe edition of 21, which probably rules out a return in Q4. And GaGa will probably be around 100k ahead of her next week, and by the time she's dropped below 50k (which probably won't be for a good few weeks) then Adele will have as well.

  8. ahhh it's yours! I was thinking it was Chris' at first..

cheers for the tracklisting, glad I was right on a few and don't look like a total goon. Think I might have to watch the blues brothers now cos that song is amazing. will certainly be checking most of these people out now.

and are you really from manchester? if so big up!

Well, Altrincham. So sort of :P

  9. It underperformed over here because of a wacky release tactic (which had already killed "Born This Way"'s chances of #1) and then she didn't release the video or promote until it was too late, hence the rollercoaster chart run. Had the song been more original, it might have done a little better but it would have to be world-endingly good to overcome its conditions.

It underperformed in the US because radio stations were scared to get behind it and she didn't do enough promotion right at the start of its chart run. At least, that's my best guess.

  10. Appreciation:

01 (--) Adele - Set Fire To The Rain (01) [1 wk] Good #1, I have a strange feeling this'll underperform in the charts

    Great top 10 :D

  11. So Mainstream, It Hurts

    1. A great start to the playlist, a male singer whose voice either sounds really familiar or it’s the song. Can imagine hearing it in a movie with a car driving down route 66 or something.

    2. Really interested in finding out who this is cos I love this singers voice which again sounds really familiar. Like most of the songs in this playlist, not something I’d really seek out to listen to but I’m pleasantly surprised and wouldn’t mind listening to more stuff from them.

    3. This is either from the 80’s or it’s just got an 80’s vibe to it. I kinda recognise it a bit but I’m not too sure where from, probably an advert? I’m glad I finally have it though in my itunes though, I’m really liking it now especially the lead up to the chorus.

    4. This is one of my favourites. Again, not something I’d ever usually come across but it ticks all the boxes for me. The guys voice is wicked and the chorus is so bloody good!

    5. This one took a few listens to get into it but it’s another one of my favourites now. I’m a sucker for a good chorus so again this is what sells this one to me. Will definitely be checking out their other stuff.

    6. Love this into and how the song kida builds. Can imagine the instrumental for this is amazing!

    7. Probably my second favourite of the lot. Yet again, the singer’s voice is so familiar but I just can’t place it. I especially like the end where the beat kicks in and there’s some kind of auto-tune thing going on?

    8. Male and female vocals with a catchy as hell chorus.

    9. AMAZING

    10. Pretty sure this is The Offspring cos it reminds me so much of Pretty Fly for a White Guy and the guy’s got a pretty distinct voice. Can’t get enough of the way he says ‘time’.

    11. I thought I knew whose CD this was until I heard this song cos I really can’t see the person I’m thinking of listening to this but I could be and probably am wrong. This is easily my favourite, I’m a sucker for a female vocal and the chorus is great. Looking forward to finding out who this is.

    12. Turning Japanese! This is only song on here that I definitely know who it’s by. It’s one of those songs I’ve heard growing up but never properly listened to it. Glad it’s in my collection now though I think it’s wicked.

    13. HELLO HELLOOOOOOOOOO. Got a feeling this might be paramore from this girls voice but I could be wrong cos I’ve not heard much of their stuff. Unless she’s also done solo stuff? Really like this though, it’s made me wanna give their music another chance even if it’s not them.

    14. One of the only songs I probably wouldn’t listen to again. I know that it doesn’t sound anything like him, but I just get morrisey vibes from this guys voice and morrisey’s honky voice annoys the hell out of me. I also get rocky horror vibes from it. I think I might be going mental.

    15. Okay well this is definitely green day but I don’t know the song, I’ve only heard the stuff from amerian idiot. I definitely like it though, especially that bit at the end.

    16. Another song I’ve heard but can’t place the name of or who sings it. Really enjoyed it though and I love the sax breakdown near the end. Picturing whoever sings it to look like Siouxsie Soux.

    17. I get major The Beautiful South vibes from this. I can’t work out if it’s a man and woman singing at the same time or not. Whoever it is I really like it though, the chorus especially (once again)

    18. This song reminds me of another song much it’s really bugging me! Only for like 3 seconds from 27 seconds in but I swear there’s another song with a really similar sound to that and it’s gonna kill me if I don’t find out which one :( (love the song btw!)

    19. hahaaa I watched this movie recently and even though I wasn’t overly keen on it I did love this scene! Couldn’t stop laughing when this came on :P

    20. Kinda wish this was longer! The guy’s got a heavy metal kinda voice that reminds me of disturbed and I was just getting into it when it ended. Is this the full version of it to whoevers playlist this is?

Sorry if the reivews for each song are a bit short but I find it hard trying to think of things to say about songs in general. I am really interested to see who a lot of these songs are by though so I can explore their discographies.

This is mine :D glad you liked it, the tracklisting is as follows:

01 Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road

    02 Incubus - Drive

03 The Blues Brothers - Gimme Some Lovin'

04 Band of Skulls - Fires

05 Alkaline Trio - Private Eye

    06 Tunng - Sashimi

07 The Black Keys - Tighten Up

08 The Kills - Sour Cherry

09 DCI Gene Hunt - Armed Bastards

10 The Offspring - Come Out and Play

11 Rox - My Baby Left Me

12 The Vapors - Turning Japanese

    13 Paramore - Hello, Hello

    14 Eugene & the Lizards - Bugjuice

15 Green Day - J.A.R. (Jason Andrew Relva)

16 Martha & the Muffins - Echo Beach

17 Band of Horses - Factory

18 Blue Öyster Cult - (Don't Fear) the Reaper

    19 Samuel L. Jackson - Ezekiel 25:17

    20 Sum 41 - Pain For Pleasure

    1. A great start to the playlist, a male singer whose voice either sounds really familiar or it’s the song. Can imagine hearing it in a movie with a car driving down route 66 or something.

Yep, no wonder you recognised it. My mum's all-time favourite song, I got into it more recently because I was told to learn it by my drum teacher. From the album "Born To Run", which I'd fully recommend if you liked this.

    2. Really interested in finding out who this is cos I love this singers voice which again sounds really familiar. Like most of the songs in this playlist, not something I’d really seek out to listen to but I’m pleasantly surprised and wouldn’t mind listening to more stuff from them.

You'll have probably heard at least one Incubus song even if you didn't realise you had - this was a MASSIVE radio hit about ten years ago in the US, it's such a shame they never got that much success over here.

    3. This is either from the 80’s or it’s just got an 80’s vibe to it. I kinda recognise it a bit but I’m not too sure where from, probably an advert? I’m glad I finally have it though in my itunes though, I’m really liking it now especially the lead up to the chorus.

From the soundtrack of one of my all-time favourite films :D

    4. This is one of my favourites. Again, not something I’d ever usually come across but it ticks all the boxes for me. The guys voice is wicked and the chorus is so bloody good!

Took me a while to get into this but when it clicks, it's just pure awesomeness.

    5. This one took a few listens to get into it but it’s another one of my favourites now. I’m a sucker for a good chorus so again this is what sells this one to me. Will definitely be checking out their other stuff.

I got this from a CD Swap on ChC, I've listened to some more Alkaline Trio since but nothing compares to this. I love the lyrics ^_^

    6. Love this into and how the song kida builds. Can imagine the instrumental for this is amazing!

Another more low-key song, glad you liked it though ^_^

    7. Probably my second favourite of the lot. Yet again, the singer’s voice is so familiar but I just can’t place it. I especially like the end where the beat kicks in and there’s some kind of auto-tune thing going on?

Another big radio hit across the pond, the Black Keys have been threatening to make a serious breakthrough for a while and this should have been the song to do it, imo. Love how it's kinda bluesy.

    8. Male and female vocals with a catchy as hell chorus.

You'll probably know The Kills, this was only an album track but it's by far my favourite of theirs.

    9. AMAZING

From one of the best TV shows of the last decade. The last series of Ashes to Ashes finished almost exactly a year ago :o

    10. Pretty sure this is The Offspring cos it reminds me so much of Pretty Fly for a White Guy and the guy’s got a pretty distinct voice. Can’t get enough of the way he says ‘time’.

It is! It was the introductory single from their breakthrough Smash, which I think is still the biggest-selling independent record of all time in the US with over 8 million copies sold.

    11. I thought I knew whose CD this was until I heard this song cos I really can’t see the person I’m thinking of listening to this but I could be and probably am wrong. This is easily my favourite, I’m a sucker for a female vocal and the chorus is great. Looking forward to finding out who this is.

This just clicked with me as soon as I heard it, not usually the kind of thing I go for either which may have thrown you off if you already thought this was my playlist

    12. Turning Japanese! This is only song on here that I definitely know who it’s by. It’s one of those songs I’ve heard growing up but never properly listened to it. Glad it’s in my collection now though I think it’s wicked.

Tis a classic, and probably the best-known song here.

It is Paramore. It's an early demo that was inexplicably left off their debut album even though it's up there with the best they've done. Check out "When It Rains" off Riot! if you liked this, it's probably the closest in sound they've come to it. Or "Decode", but I'm assuming you've heard that.

    14. One of the only songs I probably wouldn’t listen to again. I know that it doesn’t sound anything like him, but I just get morrisey vibes from this guys voice and morrisey’s honky voice annoys the hell out of me. I also get rocky horror vibes from it. I think I might be going mental.

This was the last song I put on the compilation, it's not a massive favourite of mine but I do like it.

    15. Okay well this is definitely green day but I don’t know the song, I’ve only heard the stuff from amerian idiot. I definitely like it though, especially that bit at the end.

Wouldn't expect you to know it, it was on the soundtrack for the film Angus and they recorded it in '95 after Dookie had exploded. Another hidden gem similar to "Hello, Hello", especially given nothing they recorded between this and "American Idiot" was of this standard imo.

    16. Another song I’ve heard but can’t place the name of or who sings it. Really enjoyed it though and I love the sax breakdown near the end. Picturing whoever sings it to look like Siouxsie Soux.

This is reportedly the "35th Greatest Canadian Song Ever"! Was a #10 hit over here in 1980, and I'm afraid to say I have no idea what Martha looks like :(

    17. I get major The Beautiful South vibes from this. I can’t work out if it’s a man and woman singing at the same time or not. Whoever it is I really like it though, the chorus especially (once again)

Absolutely gorgeous song from another hyped-up band. Not much more to say really.

    18. This song reminds me of another song much it’s really bugging me! Only for like 3 seconds from 27 seconds in but I swear there’s another song with a really similar sound to that and it’s gonna kill me if I don’t find out which one :( (love the song btw!)

Absolute classic, good to see it getting some love :D

    19. hahaaa I watched this movie recently and even though I wasn’t overly keen on it I did love this scene! Couldn’t stop laughing when this came on :P

Beats even "I have HAD it, with these motherf***ing snakes, on this motherf***ing plane!"

    20. Kinda wish this was longer! The guy’s got a heavy metal kinda voice that reminds me of disturbed and I was just getting into it when it ended. Is this the full version of it to whoevers playlist this is?

It is the full-length song, it was a parody that's tacked on at the end of the "Fat Lip" video and was a proper album track on All Killer, No Filler as well. Ironically, the band actually ended up going down a vaguely serious metal route

Sorry if the reivews for each song are a bit short but I find it hard trying to think of things to say about songs in general. I am really interested to see who a lot of these songs are by though so I can explore their discographies.

Glad you enjoyed it, I tried to make the compilation as fun as possible.
