  1. I echo what others have said - nearly all of the CD's I received through the CHC ones largely didn't appeal to me whatsoever but I discovered at least 3 great songs on each which made it worthwhile - my all time favourite discovery from one of them being Vaporous by Elsiane - stunning song, one of my favourites/most played songs of the last few years in fact

You got mine last time I believe and it wasn't particularly to your tastes... I'm trying to remember which tracks you actually liked, a Palladium one I believe?

I'd love to take part ^_^ Will make a better selection this time, my last ChC one introduced me to some wonderful stuff that I might sneak on this time :D

  2. Who on earth is reading Q these days?

I do, for one. And tbh what else would you expect from a magazine that doesn't try to hide the fact that it's in thrall of the Nineties? Its first issue was 1986, and to be brutally honest where could you find a better list? For example, I bought the other week a copy of Kerrang! that featured their top 21 21st century icons, also voted for by readers. The top 10 was as follows:

    1. Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day)

    2. Hayley Williams (Paramore)

    3. Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance)

    4. Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters etc.)

    5. M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)

    6. Jared Leto (30 Seconds to Mars)

    7. Matt Bellamy (Muse)

    8. Corey Taylor (Slipknot)

    9. Ian Watkins (Lostprophets)

    10. Chester Bennington (Linkin Park)

    Which list do you prefer?

  3. I agree 100% 'TSWABH' is an absolute gem that deserves to be no. 1 but most 11-16 years olds are still obsessed with 'Empire State Of Mind' so they couldn't care less about this song even if, imo, it's far superior.

I resent that -_- Alicia's Empire State of Mind for me is a bit of a dullard, certainly nothing compared to the original which has held up well to ruthless overplaying. At least it's better than Doesn't Mean Anything, which was sleep-enducing but still managed to go top 10 :o

  4. My faves:

01 (--) Plan B - She Said (01) [1 wk] Good #1, although tbh I'm glad it missed out in the officials today :D

    03 (03) Lady GaGa feat. Beyonce - Telephone (03-03-03) [3 wks]

    04 (01) Rihanna - Rude Boy (03-02-01-01-04) [5 wks]

    05 (04) Mumford & Sons - The Cave (07-07-05-04-05) [5 wks]

    06 (02) Gabriella Cilmi - On A Mission (01-02-02-06) [4 wks]

07 (05) Alicia Keys - Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart (01-01-03-04-05-07) [6 wks] This needs to do well! So much better than her other recent singles.

15 (08) Timbaland feat. Katy Perry - If We Ever Meet Again (01-01-02-02-05-09-08-15) [8 wks]

16 (09) Black Eyed Peas - Rock That Body (06-09-16) [3 wks] Prefer this BY FAR to the previous two.

17 (11) Florence & The Machine & Dizzee Rascal - You Got The Dirtee Love (03-04-06-08-11-11-17) [7 wks]

    20 (--) Scouting For Girls - This Ain't A Love Song (20) [1 wk] I surprised myself in liking this :o

23 (--) 30 Seconds To Mars - This Is War (23) [1 wk] LOVE!! Although tbh they NEED to release "Night of the Hunter" sharpish.

    27 (20) Laura Marling - Devil's Spoke (17-20-27) [3 wks]

    29 (23) Owl City - Fireflies (01-01-01-01-01-03-04-07-07-07-10-15-17-21-23-29) [16 wks]

    30 (31) Lady GaGa - Bad Romance (01-01-01-01-01-01-01-02-02-02-04-07-09-12-17-17-21-24-29-27-31-31-30) [23 wks]

    31 (21) Marina & The Diamonds - Hollywood (02-02-04-06-08-09-15-21-31) [9 wks]

  5. I had "the honour" of hearing him perform with Lily Allen. However, his duet with Lily is actually quite decent.

'Electric' So underrated and sounds so now.

'Stop' always has and always will be my fave Spice Girls single! ('Never Give Up On The Good Times' gives it a good run for it's money in the "best ever SG track ever recorded" stakes)

Also wasn't there already a campaign for 'Stop' to try and get number 1? Albeit, it was all without facebook promo and stuff, but it did well considering, I think it re-entered the Top 75 or only just missed at something like 77 or something. I think we should make this song the campaign this year against Cowell! How apt would that be? :kink: Also Cowell has expressed his dislike for Spice Girls plenty of times. So what a kick in the teeth that would be :heehee:

It got to #78 in July 2007. http://www.chartstats.com/songinfo.php?id=26146

  6. 2004 was the worst year for chart music for me, clogged up with utter nonsense and US urban of the most generic/awful order all year long...The Elvis re-issues ruined 2005 until about April-ish but then it all got great from about May, starting with Helena Paparizou winning the ESC before Bad Day/Since U Been Gone/We Belong Together all being out at the same time

2004 was terrible for #1s but otherwise quite strong, I found there was a lack of depth in 2000.

  7. The scum made a song and dance the other day about Labour leaflets not have Gordon Brown on it, my local Torie candidate posted his bull$h!t leaflet through earlier and it fails to mention the eton prick anywhere on it.

It doesn't do anything really apart from say oooh look at me i'm posing outside Cupar Train Station. :/

I'm in one of the safest Lib Dem seats in the country, Sir Ming will get 50-60% of the vote in my region easily. Labour are useless and everyone votes Lib Dem to ensure the Tories don't stand a chance, they only get the land owners/some of St Andrews anyway.

I'm hoping by the next election we'll be approaching a stage where the Lib Dems are actually considered as a real election candidate.

Up North, the best seats to aim for are the SNP one's, even those with a huge majority. The SNP have made a complete f*** up of Scotland at Holyrood, i think they'll find people deserting them in droves come the next scottish election

That's bound to be bad for the Tories then cos those seats will be split between Lib Dems and Labour?

  8. Does anyone think the three live televised debates, on BBC1, ITV1 and Sky could win or lose the election for Labour or Tories? How important will they be do you think? Could Cameron's performance mean the difference between a hung parliament and a Tory overall majority?

Hopefully everyone will see how much of a smarmy git he is and vote against him. Generally don't Election Days slightly favour the current government as some people chicken out of protest voting?

  9. Coldplay could do it if they release their greatest hits album after a huge hit single and release the week before Christmas.

A GH set seems most likely, but don't you think if Oasis could only manage 230k a year after a successful return to form Coldplay might struggle to make 700k?

  10. I think Blur's best period was 'Modern Life Is Rubbish' - the album that flopped for them. I loved their exploration of the mod genre on this album, the 60s influences.... their more successful stuff is actually the stuff I liked least.... the Parklife album in particular is so full of filler, it sould have easily been a CD single. And The Great Escape.... terrible album.

As an albums band, I think early Oasis beat Blur hands down.... but Oasis, IMO, only ever made 3 good albums - Definitely Maybe, What's The Story and the triumphant return to glory that was Dig Out Your Soul, which was massively underrated.

I like DOYS but for me its predecessor (Don't Believe The Truth) beats it hands down. Morning Glory is probably my favourite British album ever.

  11. That remix has been out for ages, I downloaded it around the same time the original song was out, it's a bit random releasing it now

Why not try and promote Video Phone if she wants some post-Telephone success - it's got GaGa and it is her most recent single and just makes the most sense?

Video Phone flopped for a reason.

  12. #37 Paramore - The Only Exception

#55 30 Seconds to Mars - This Is War

^^Great news, even though with Paramore in particular they could have released something far stronger but I doubt whether something like "Turn It Off" or "Where The Lines Overlap" would be doing as well.

  13. Tender will always be my favourite Blur song, then Beetlebum, Girls & Boys and Song 2. Country House isn't THAT far off the top actually, I've always found Blur's back catalogue doesn't have the same strength in depth even if the best songs are more spread out than with Oasis,
  14. There's no way that Country House is as awful as people make out. The guitar fills the whole way through are pretty great. The backing vocals are great The breakdown bit is great too. Roll With It does nothing for me at all.

It's not awful at all, but it's just a bit samey given Blur's past output (and what they've done since). Same story for Oasis, not a clue with Roll With It was released as second single. Morning Glory would have annihilated Country House methinks.

  15. 01 Country House 270,000

    02 Roll With It 220,000

The better song definitely won, imo. :kink:

I actually think they're fairly similar and both sets of fans seem to accept that they were both fairly low points of the bands' singles careers. Personally I reckon RWI has the edge musically (Country House is pretty derivative) but the lyrics are pretty lousy.
