  1. How so? People baulk at "Continuity Miliband" as if this were a disaster on the scale of 1983 or (in a different way) 1992. I'm absolutely certain that the party has serious structural and organisational issues which need dealing with but the reality is that we got closer to returning to government after one term than anyone has since Thatcher with a leader who no one liked after completely misjudging the majority of big political events during the course of the parliament. The manifesto itself wasn't the problem (this time, at least. Like I said, we've got major issues which is why I'm more pro-Creasy than I am with any of the leadership candidates) - it was delivered badly by the wrong person.
  2. Wouldn't the Accelerationist approach just be admitting that we're doomed in 2020? Because there's no way in hell that we could win if we'd had to ditch a radical left leader halfway through the parliament.
  3. Steve Cram would be very high up there now.
  4. Finding it strange that Britain's main liberal party will soon be led by a man who doesn't support equal marriage. And the other one by a man who doesn't support equal adoption :basil:
  5. That'll save money! Cutting down on repeats by producing more shows!
  6. Exactly. It'd be dangerous to make an argument for staying in the EU around the fact that it allows Brits to work in all sorts of places with better weather. It'd be insanity to try and appeal to the benevolence of the British people by trying to point out that their fellow Europeans often can have a far better quality of life here than at home.
  7. The case is growing and the left are stuck with the issue that some of the best things about the EU (free movement of labour, for one) are those that most people hate. It's therefore a tricky argument to make for staying in at the moment.
  8. Further evidence that Owen Jones believes his own hype.
  9. She was excellent when I saw her last week. Her oratory style seems a bit more accessible than Andy's as well.
  10. Rachel Reeves is still putting me off Burnham. Cooper just seems that bit sharper at the moment.
  11. Absolutely bombed with Greece. Not got good feelings from this.
  12. By all accounts he seems like a complete little shit, but it's hypocrisy of the highest order for Liverpool to bemoan him leaving. Every club buys players from smaller ones.
  13. It's pushing Burnham (and I imagine Cooper) further left by coming out and opposing it, we can't do anything about it and no one will remember in 2020. Could be worse.
  14. You're kind of missing the point of the "moderate" wing of the party - it's all about being pragmatic and not straying too far from the supposed centre ground, which changes over the decades.
  15. Behind-the-scenes footage was shown at Comic-Con last night. CTNJ51ghzdY AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
  16. Delph will probably get a fair amount of game time as an alternative to Fernandinho. They need a wide player though.
  17. Meanwhile I'm already designing the bumper stickers.
  18. Rumour that if United can't get one of their bigger targets they might put in a £15m bid for Diafra Sakho. Seems a bit far fetched.
  19. Ony likely to be the case this time though. Lisa Nandy should be far more prominent by 2020.
  20. ELO are better but it's nigh-on impossible for a mathematical model to do this accurately. Given that we went to Switzerland and won comfortably I don't actually think 9th is that far off for us. The Dutch still being 5th is odd.
  21. Unfortunately I think his stammer was a big part of it. The fact that he got so easily flustered meant that he tried to make up for it by going "on the attack" in a weird sort of way.
  22. I can't see this having the legs to beat Avatar or maybe even Titanic - they were both massive long runners, I don't think something so frontloaded could pass $2bn for a few years. Should get close though, and end up comfortably #3. Also, the Han spin-off is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller of Lego Movie and 21/22 Jump Street fame. YAY.
  23. Darmian was arguably the MotM against England. Might even be a better bet than Clyne.
  24. If Miliband proves anything it's that the package was wrong. I don't totally buy the argument that we're letting the Tories set the agenda as much as we did after 2010. What hurt us was that we then spent the next two years going through a policy review which was then almost entirely ignored because the parliament is five years long. I don't think the new leader will make the same mistake. It's about picking the right fights over the next few years, always having a position (even if it's temporary, because fuck it) and using those experiences to craft a decent manifesto in five years. Also, I find it endlessly frustrating that all the likely candidates for Shadow Chancellor are so bad. I could just about deal with Chris Leslie or Chuka but please god no to Rachel Reeves. If Andy wins I want him to offer it to Yvette.
  25. Merseyside is a bit of a special case though because of the contempt for The Sun (and Murdoch in general). The dying statistic is surely misleading given that millions of people have also joined the register in that time. I agree though that it'd be very dangerous to rely on non-voters, as it is to rely on any one group.
