EU referendum - advisory or binding?
Closed as we don't need another topic on this. The discussion was sufficiently myopic in the main referendum topic.

The Official Labour Foot-Shoot Thread, Mk II
From what I've seen over the last year or so, Scottish Labour has very much been attempting to outflank the SNP from the left - including the income tax proposals. That seemed like a conscious move from Kez to try and bring the party at least partially in step with Corbyn, and as an outside observer I'd assume there was room for a party to the left of the SNP economically to make headway.

Out of interest, who would you be more concerned about of the two leadership candidates?

I'm going to ignore that and go straight in with the most "what on earth" Trump news in at least 12 hours. http://thehill.com/homenews/administration...rricane-victims

What a bizarre comparison.

So why not admit that, rather than insisting that everyone is just as clueless?

EU Referendum Discussion
Well to the extent that the exact nature of the final deal is yet to be agreed, we can't be sure. However, there are only so many variations for each outcome. For example, if the final deal were to include us being exempt from EU food hygiene requirements, we'd need to hire a load of food inspectors to check that farms and factories were adhering to the new British standards. That's not prediction or speculation, that's just a fact. Alternatively we may decide we want to still be part of the EU standards, in which case we wouldn't need to hire anyone. It seems like you saying "no one knows" is actually your way of saying that you can't be bothered to think about anything which might affect your existing opinion.

General Racist Thread
There's a surprising number of voters who were Lib Dem up to 2010 and have flirted with UKIP since. A number of council seats in Sheffield have gone from one to the other, sometimes via Labour, and one of the UKIP councillors is an ex Lib Dem. Coincidentally, the entire group on the council said that they would resign from the party if Anne Marie Waters had won yesterday. There was some speculation that they may join another Europhobic party which is active in the region - which goes by the name of the Social Democratic Party. Strange world.

Nice of you to admit that you actually lost the argument, there.

London Tube Strike 5/10
Famously, Labour Prime Ministers have a terrible relationship with union leaders and industrial disputes are far more frequent than under the Tories.

Champions League 2017/18
Stunning result for Chelsea. Four English teams in excellent positions after two games. Will be fascinating to see how Spurs do in two games against Real, but expecting three group winners and two runners up at this stage.

I hate to break it to you, but the law is already quite involved in political campaigns.

Defending yourself is one thing - doing so with an illegal firearm is a bit different.

Death is not an appropriate punishment for burglary.

2017/18 FA Premier League
City looking pretty terrifying the last couple of weeks. Watford have had a good start to the season, and didn't actually play that badly given they wound up losing 6-0. United have been very efficient in the last couple of matches. Completely switched off for most of the game once they'd gone ahead and a better team would have nabbed an equaliser, yet they somehow still won 4-0. Lukaku and Matic have obviously improved them but I'm not convinced they're 15-20 points better this season, which they'd need to be to win the league.

2017 GE: Volatile Voting, Random Results
I suppose it depends on 1. how open the selection for the list was under AMS, and 2. what the constituencies were like under STV. I could see a way that the West Yorkshire seats could be done under STV that the Tories would only get one MP elected in the one covering Shipley and Davies could be pushed out. In an "inner South London" one I suppose we'd do well enough that Hoey might survive.

Expecting the Dildo Brothers to doom us by waiting too long to sack Bilic and letting Palace steal Benitez. Tomorrow night is going to be a struggle.
