I am hoping the album has some more exciting material on it than Boat, which makes up his top 3 (Boat to be starred out). If Boat is the next best option after Eyes Closed, this album will be a snooze fest. Don’t get the love for Daylight. The muffled sound in the chorus is quite off putting. Even still, glad to see some more movement at the top end of the chart. Really hope Kim recovers on Spotify after that nose dive. Apple at least is pretty stable.
  2. I wouldn’t consider it stand out this early on but it is way better than the last single. The versus are much stronger than the chorus and the sample is very well done. Really hoping this does something for her. If it can happen for Zara with crap streaming support, who knows!
  3. I went for Jack Black, Jo Bro, Tech It Deep and NF - the first track of his that has charted this year I like. The David Guetta song just feels lazy and unnecessary.
  4. I went with JISOO, Maisie, Melanie, cat burns and dogtooth. Wasn’t as keen on the other Tyler track.
  5. +12 Gorillaz - Silent Running (feat. Adeleye Omotayo) - best Gorillaz track in years  +10 Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding - Miracle +8 Nothing But Thieves - Welcome To The DCC +7 Lana Del Rey - Paris, Texas (feat. SYML) +6 Zara Larsson - Can't Tame Her +5 Hozier - Eat Your Young +4 Mae Muller - I Wrote A Song +3 Miley Cyrus - River +2 RAYE - Flip A Switch +1 KAROL G and Shakira - TQG

Expected a bit better for JISOO. I suppose the lack of multiple versions limited it’s sales impact.

You can just tell the end of year chart is going to very depressing at this point with the amount of 2022 and older music that will make up the list. There just isn’t much excitement around any new stuff currently.

Definitely a tough list to pick a best and worst for. We Found Love has a lot of nostalgia for me from uni nights out, which swayed that. Summer as the worst, purely because I don’t like his vocals on it. The production is still great though.
  9. Omg! About time we got something new, even if it is a soundtrack release. David Guetta has a nack for getting a collab out whenever a new break out act emerges - in this case Coi Leray
  10. Some really interesting stats there! Just highlights why the free to premium weighting was so needed if even the 5000th song of the year is doing those numbers. D-Block being so high on that list just feels wrong, but with them throwing so many tracks out, I am not completely surprised by their success here.

Shivers is the fave from this list though Bad Habits, Shape of You and Merry Christmas would make up the top 4. Sausage Rolls has no redeeming features making it worth listening to ever again out of choice. The rest are all ‘ok’ - quite happy to hear them, but wouldn’t choose to do so.

After going off this for a while after release, I am definitely enjoying it again now. Such a great return for Zara.

White Noise Baby Sleep coming for that top 100 smash.

Agreed, think a catalogue chart could be quite interest to watch, even if Mr Brightside is number one almost every week. :D Speaking of which, eww at that being top 20 again. As much as I enjoy the song, I don’t get why it does so well consistently compared to other tracks with a similar cult status. Ouch at Ed’s Spotify figures. Wasn’t expecting it to be almost out the top 10 after one week.
  15. I guess that’s down to the shift from pure sales and a one off transaction to ongoing general consumption. The immediate sales might not look so good compared to when downloads were doing much better, but tracks are getting a longer life outside the chart with regular streaming. The weighting brought in at that point has definitely impacted as has been noted. Lifetime sales now look much healthier in comparison. Will be interesting to see the list when announced, more so with the legacy acts than Ed, Adele, Taylor etc.

The church version is pretty disappointing, I was expecting more of a DJ Sammy Heaven candlelight mix. Can’t see this version making huge waves but rooting for Calvin this week to see dance at the top again.

Makes sense for this to get more of a push I suppose, considering how well it has stuck around to date. Definitely looking lead a dead week overall still.
  18. As much as I love a top 40 run down, this could have been a top 20. Poor Busted only getting a top 10 the other week. Pleasantly surprised the loving kind is so high. Loved it on release. Whole Lotta History deserves better.
  19. I went with Hozier, Bakar, Roar, Nothing But Thieves, Melanie Martinez and Luke Combs. Jimin starts off good but just becomes a mess after the first minute. Totally get why the Taylor track didn’t make the album. Not bad but totally indifferent to it. Flip A Switch is the track I like least from the album so of course that is the track people are clicking with.

The difference is one doesn’t need to use those tactics to chart. That is what ruffles feathers. F64 was a tribute release so was never intended for anything - if anything it would have been distasteful to the message of the song to do so. Even then, he still scraped top 50 with minimal push - acts like Jimin could not.

Let’s not make out they are comparable here. Jimin hardly has a big chart history, nor do they have easy access to playlist and radio support. Ed is a globally successful artist with no issue getting radio/playlist support, but Ed/the label can’t settle for anything less than #1. People would be making the same comments if it was The Weeknd, Beyoncé, Adele etc doing the discounts and multiple versions week one. Happy to see Can’t Tame Her starting to getting some Spotify support. Taken long enough!
  22. Rose Coloured Lenses is by far my favourite and perfect for spring/summer, so hoping it gets the single treatment before the deluxe comes out.
  23. This does come across a bit desperate at this stage. Not sure what tricks will be left for week two if discounting already in week one. Given the track is 10 years old and this was more for the fans, Demi seems to be doing pretty good!

Yeah, I am not surprised the Ed track hasn’t performed better this early on. The Ed fatigue is strong at this point. I expect it will be pretty stable still as the week goes on. Glad we aren’t looking at this being a long running number one at this stage, so Miracle still has a good shot. Really not keen on Candy Necklace at this point so hopefully A&W takes its rightful place as top track by tomorrow. Yay at Fall Out Boy’s Hold Me Like A Grudge. Definitely the most instant track from the album. :cheer:
  25. TV Girl - Lovers Rock was a nice surprise. Voted for Jaded instead of River as I feel it is the much better track of the two.
