There was a big ska revival in 1979 . Everyone in my school was into this type of music .The 2 tone record label kicked this off with groups like The Specials, Madness , The Beat & Selector .It was basically 1960s ska with a faster beat & a harder edge to it. It promoted racial unity when there was a lot of racial tension in the UK at the time.

Sorry to be picky ,Mikey, but that came out in 1979 , didn't it ?
  5. I used to love Texan bars but I think they'd pull my teeth out now if I had one !!!!!! They were tough chewy nougat with chocolate on them from the mid 70s. Also, Aztec bars were great , a bit like Mars Bars . Can you still get Old Jamaica bars with rum ?

  7. My first memories of the charts were around 1973 when Tom Browne presented solid gold sixty . I used to write down them week after week. On Tuesday lunchtimes I would listen to the new chart & decide which songs I would be taping on the Sunday night. I've got 100s of tapes in the loft of old chart shows , most of them complete with the presenters talking . The chart show was the only show on Radio 1 that was in stereo at the time so the quality was great on a Sunday evening. Simon Bates did the chart show after Tom Browne from April 1978 to August 1979. Tony Blackburn presented from Aug 1979 to Jan 1982. Tommy Vance took over from Jan 1982 to Jan 1984. Simon Bates came back from Jan - Sept 1984 Richard Skinner did Sept 1984 to 1986 Bruno Brookes stepped in from 1986 to Sept 1990 Mark Goodier took over from Sept 1990 to March 1992 Bruno Brookes came back from March 1992 to Feb 1995 Mark Goodier returned from Mar 1995 to Nov 2002 Wes Butters took over from Feb 2003 to Feb 2005 JK & Joel have been presenting the charts since March 2005

A bit of trivia .... The Faces hold the record for the longest song title with "You Can Make Me Dance Sing Or Anything (Even Take The Dog For A Walk, Mend A Fuse, Fold Away The Ironing Board, Or Any Other Domestic Shortcomings". Cindy Incidentally, Pool Hall Richard & Stay With Me were fantastic tunes by The Faces.

Roy Wood was not in the Idle Race . Roy Wood was in the Nightriders . He left in 1966 to form the move & was replaced with Johnny Mann .Jeff Lynne replaced Johnny Mann.

I loved one of Roy Wood's solo hits " Forever".See my baby jive,Rock N Roll Winter ,Ball Park Incident & Angel Fingers were all great pop records with some complex arrangements. He still tours with his band . I saw him at Rock With Laughter show at NEC just before Christmas. Last night I saw Charlie Grima , Wizzard's drummer , join in a jamming session at Old Silhillians Club nr Bham with Mike Sheridan's band. Sheriden & Roy Wood used to be in the Mike Sheriden & the Nightriders. In 1966 Roy left to form the Move and Jeff Lynne joined the Night riders who then changed to The Idle Race .

I loved "Up the Junction". Classic tune & could have been written by Lennon/McCartney.
  24. It's a fantastic comeback single. She looks great . The most talented of the Spice Girls is back. It's a better version than Bow Wow Wow's and uses the Bo Diddley riff which has been used by many artistes over the years inc Buddy Holly & Rolling Stones. Top 5 cert !!!!!
  25. I queued up for 10 hours outside the NEC on Friday & got front row tickets of block 17 (side of stage) so am chuffed to bits.
