  1. Leo Sayer dressed as a clown in 1973 singing Show Must Go On Madonna singing Like A Virgin with long Pink hair (wig ?) Jeffrey Daniels from Shalamar body popping & moonwalking to A Night to Remember (before Jacko did it ) Bob Geldof ripping up posters of John Travolta and Olivia Newton John when the Boomtown Rats eventually ended their 6 week run (with Summer Nights) at No. 1 with "Rat Trap" One of my earliest memories is listening to Mud doing Tiger Feet and copying the dance!!
  2. I remember Oasis playing with Noel on vocals and Liam on guitar in the most obivious mime ever which still makes me laugh. Rod & The Faces lost performance of Maggie May where the band swapped instruments half way through. Rod singing the lyrics of You Wear It Well from a sheet of paper. Rod & The Faces (again) performing Angel with a cardboard cut-out of bassist Ronnie Lane who couldn't make the show I would forgive the BBC for wiping so much classic 60s/70s stuff if they would show existing 60s/70s shows on BBC3 in their entirity.
  3. BBC needs to let it go out in style. Get DLT and Tony Blackburn in to host the last one, get Slade and Roy Wood on to perform, have the proper Led Zep theme music, get Pan's People back. Get Dexy's in in front of a picture of Jocky Wilson again . Let's have a celebratory finish not a damp squib. One last burst of gloriously silly fun. Who's with me?
  4. Lonely this Christmas (Mud), Wont somebody dance with me (Lyndsey de Paul) and Roll away the stone (Mott the Hoople) all have talking bits in the middle.
  5. Mud doing Tiger Feet and Sweet doing Blockbuster
  6. I liked Welcome to the pleasure dome by FGTH. The 12" mixes of Two Tribes were good. The video was very powerful at the time as it was the time of a lot of tension between USA and USSR.
  7. How did so many TOTP recordings get wiped ?
  8. I remember in the chart show the presenter always referred to the song as just "Healing" Records by Judge Dread were all banned by the BBC as well. Hi Hi Hi by Wings because of explicit sexual lyrics (not drug references) Tell Laura I love Her was banned because of the reference to dying in a stock car race . Max Romeo - Wet Dream - A song about his bedroom ceiling - the BBC wouldn't buy that . Ivor Biggun - The winker's song (misprint) - Sexually explicit Lil Louis - French Kiss - "Heavy breathing" All these recordings were banned during the gulf war in 1990. Jose Felicano & The Doors - Light My Fire Something Happens - "Parachute" The Cure - Killing an Arab Little angels - Bone yard Massive Attack had the word "attack" dropped during the gulf war. Bomb the Bass also suffered during this period. The Kinks - Lola - was originally banned because it mentioned Coca-Cola, was later changed to Cherry Cola to get airplay.
  9. A lot of 70s Punk was badly played & sung Rock & Roll mixed with white noise /feedback & swear words. At the time the music shocked older people & a lot of the the lyrics were about the bad state of the country back then. The Sex Pistols stuff seems quite tame when its played nowadays but at the time was meant to shock.

I would also add Heaven 17 & ABC to this list. The lead singers of new romantic bands were not the best singers in my opinion ,although the music was good. Simon Le Bon,Phil Oakey,Adam Ant & Marc Almond often sang flat live or on their records.
  21. I remember in 1973 someone brought into school a radio cassette recorder . Everyone surrounded him because they'd never seen one before. It was like something from another planet. Up till then , if you wanted to record songs you had to dangle a microphone over the TV , or put it right next to the radio or record player. Everyone in the room had to be asked to stay quiet while you were recording.
