  1. "Le Dernier Coup de marteau" is a French social film that was released in my country’s cinemas over six months ago! Initially, it participated at the 71st Venice Film Festival, where it competed with 19 other films for the Golden Lion! However, having seen 6 of them, I think the grand prize went to the worst of them, A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence, which incidentally was one of the worst movies I've seen in two years! I thought for a long time that the Venice Festival only screened boring and pointless movies, but watching "Hungry Hearts" and "Le Dernier Coup de marteau" in autumn, I revised my opinion. The main character of the film is the teenage boy Victor, who lives with his mother who suffers from cancer in a camper/RV near the beach. Victor has never met his father who is an accomplished conductor. However, when he came to the nearby town to conduct the local orchestra, Victor will grab the opportunity to meet him. In the meanwhile, his mother’s state of health gets worse and the coach of the school football team urges him to be a professional football player. Victor faces the difficulties of life very early and he takes important decisions about his future. "Le Dernier Coup de marteau" is a remarkable film that is based on the very good performances of the main characters. The young Romain Paul is very good in the protagonist role while Clotilde Hesme who plays his mother, gives a very moving interpretation that I think will touch everyone! Alix Delaporte was the one who directed the film and wrote the script along with Alain Le Henry. It is her second major feature film and she did it greatly, receiving the "Lanterna Magica (CGS) Award" at the 71st Venice International Film Festival. The film had also beautiful photography, remarkable soundtrack and elaborate editing. Besides, it is one of the few French films that do not contain profuse chatter, irritating accent and stupid facial expressions. Delaporte put heavy emphasis on expressions of the actors, which literally spoke for themselves. Nevertheless, the movie ended somewhat abruptly, and I believe that its story guided us wrongly all the time. I do not want to refer to more things about the ending so not to spoil it. However, I have noticed several times that women directors and screenwriters have a similar trend in films that they work with. While starting with the best prospects which are based -almost all times- on emotional stories, they never have a noteworthy ending so as to remember these films forever. They always have a compromising ending. These female directors tend not to make a difference in the stories they want to tell us. "Le Dernier Coup de marteau" is one of the decent films I have seen last year! It is a very interesting story for all ages. It combines successfullly family drama with a strong age story, avoiding any kind of cliché that we usually see in other similar films. "Le Dernier Coup de marteau" screened at many film festivals, received very positive reviews and the film's protagonist excelled with "Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best New Young Actor or Actress" at the film festival in Venice. Despite this, it did not have good earnings all around the world and it did not fare well at all in my country. I think that it is very unfair since this story has much to offer to the viewers in contrast to brainless "Furious 7" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" which excelled in Worldwide Box Office! xlxMIxJ_wSk
  2. "The Serpent and the Rainbow" is a horror film that was released in US cinemas in February 1988! It is based on the homonymous book of the ethnobotanist Wade Davis, following the inquiries he made regarding the voodoo religion in the area of Haiti. Wes Craven seemed to be delighted with Davis's book and he was the one who finally adapted it to the big screen! "The Serpent and the Rainbow" was screened as part of a tribute for Craven and the fact that it lasted only two days, I saw it immediately after "The Last House on the Left". Two movies in a row. This was expected to happen in my life after so many years and movies. The central character of the story is Dennis Allan, an ethnobotanist-anthropologist, who works in a multinational pharmaceutical company. Allan was informed that in Haiti, there is a poison, which turns people into zombies, and therefore intends to use it as an anesthetic in very severe cases. So, it sends Dennis Allan to Port-au-Prince, which is the capital of Haiti – for those that are not familiar with this country- to find out about this poison. This poison is in the form of a powder and he has to bring a sample to the company for further investigations. However, the political disorder that is prevailing in the country at that time and the evil head of the local police will stand as obstacles to his plans. However, an ally, in the form of a seductive doctor Marielle, will be at his side and she seems to know some things more than him. "The Serpent and the Rainbow" is the 13th directorial work of Wes Craven, after well-known and successful horror films such as "The Last House on the Left", "The Hills Have Eyes" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street ". By observing his filmography, we can note that Craven was dealing with different themes each time. Although, all of his films are based on mystery and horror stories, they are quite different from each other and the "evil" is always displayed with another view. In this specific case, Craven gave emphasis on voodoo and zombies at that time, two issues which had concerned other directors previously. "The Serpent and the Rainbow" was good in general terms and the plot had intense and suspense. In addition, it had atmospheric directing, beautiful photography -it was helped by exotic landscapes of Haiti- and very good soundtrack. However, there were some script gaps, most performances were mediocre and indifferent and some scenes seemed completely false and tragic, especially in the end. Nevertheless, Bill Pulman was quite good in the protagonist role, although the character that he portrayed was somewhat reminiscent of Indiana Jones. "The Serpent and the Rainbow" is based on an interesting script idea without of course scaring away the viewers. I couldn’t help but wonder how it is rank as a horror film. I do not think that it is one of the best films of Craven, but compared to other movies, it is clearly superior. It cost $7.000.0000 and received over $19 million, confirming that the audience followed Craven with anything that he tackled. Despite this, the film received mixed reviews from the experts in the film industry while it garnered a relatively modest rating by users of IMDb (6.5). I would mainly recommend it to fans of Craven but also to those who believe in voodoo and black magic in general. Away from us. :P EPWTvbTWhZc It has atmospheric music! Cza26wA59gI

This movie was released in my country's cinema last week. Actually, it has two different titles (Before I Wake and Somnia). It really tempted me to watch it on the big screen. Jacob Tremblay was incredible in "Room"!! Ho2Z0LtXsbY

  10. I watched the first movie along with two friends fourteen years ago. We laughed a lot and the movie was very entertaining. I just watched the official trailer of the new movie and it doesn't look verypromising. However, I have watched a lot of drama and social movies in the last weeks and I really need a comedy. I hope it will have decent earnings at the Box Office. JQ-1Ts3BChM

  20. "The Last House on the Left" is a horror film that came out in cinemas in August 1972! The film caused a great sensation at the time since it caused various reactions because of its violent and brutal content. "The Last House on the Left" is the first script and directorial work of Wes Craven on the big screen and it is essentially the movie that made him the international cinematic firmament! I had seen the remake of the homonymous film in 2009, which by the way, was one of my favourite films of that year! So, I should watch the original film too. Although I had not seen the trailer, nor did I know the actors who played in it. Two young girls, Mary and Phyllis, go to a rock concert the day the first one has her birthday. In their effort to find marijuana, they will become entangled in a very unpleasant situation. A ruthless gang escapee will kidnap them and they will lead them in a rural area outside the city, having very perverse plans in their minds. Except that they will suffer humiliation, they are killed in a brutal manner and all this will happen very close to Mary's house. When the gang will have to stay for a night at the home of the victim, without knowing it- of course- things will be very bad for them this time. I can say that I had mixed feelings after the end of the film. It's a provocative film which may annoy many viewers. I guess most women. The directing seemed quite amateurish as the image reminiscent of 70's porn films but as I read in a movie site, Craven turned this movie purposely to 16mm! The interpretations were not the best, except that of the sadist David Hess, while some dialogues in the beginning were so tragic that only caused laughter. However, later, it had some very shocking scenes while the facial reactions of Sandra Cassel (the actor who interpreted Mary) looked very realistic. Incidentally, the character who she portrayed, was one of the most stupid that I have seen in such films. Sometimes, her naivety caused me some frustration. However, I noticed many script gaps during the plot and what I found is that Wes Craven wanted to provoke with this particular story, so to distract the public and critics. Do not forget that he was trying to establish himself in the world of cinema in order to be exempted from the porn industry, where he began his career. And he did it! "The Last House on the Left" is considered a cult movie and must be seen by thriller fans. It may not contain many scary scenes but it shocks the viewers with its violent evolution. It cost only $87,000 but it managed to earn more than $3,000,000, giving impetus to Wes Craven to turn many films in the following years. However, having seen the remake of Dennis Illiadis six years ago, I believe that the result of his work was clearly superior to the original film. Though, I will not only focus on the rape scenes after the film -intentionally or not - shows how sadistic people can be around us. However, if someone will see one of the videos that have been shot in dog farms in China, but also in domestic animals farms, they do not need to watch "The Last House on the Left" to be shocked. I would recommend it only to horror fans but also to people who easily trust lest to wise up. ib7LR6_SxdY
  21. 80s is one of my favourite decades ever! So, I decided to make a topic about classic movies from that decade. My first movie will be "A Nightmare on Elm Street". I'm waiting for your favourite movies.. "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is the famous horror film that was released in the US in November 1984! Although I have seen many thrillers from the 80s, I never had the opportunity to watch this film that made one of the most frightening film stunts! Honestly, when I was kid, Freddy Krueger’s repulsive face always scared me when I would see his face on the cover of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" in the video store in my neighborhood. Of course, later in my teens and my student years, I had exactly the contrary reaction. Freddy looked more like a caricature, because we used to liken ugly people with him (no offence) and this childish behavior always provoked laughter from me. However, I saw the remake of the original film on the big screen over five years ago but I only remembered that Rooney Mara starred. Despite this, one of the cinemas at the centre of my city showed the original film as part of a tribute that they had for Wes Craven during two days! The hall was certainly full of young people as I expected and my curiosity had reached its peak! While I was laughing with the evolution of the plot, I can say that "Nightmare on Elm Street" was a quite good horror movie. Do not forget that it was shot over 31 years ago and there were not the best visual effects in that period. With the exception, of course, the visual effects were used in some science fiction movies and adventures. However, Wes Craven created a great atmosphere and inspired one of the most "successful" serial killers! Freddy Krueger appears in the dreams of teenagers and he tries to kill them only in the length of their slumber, causing –of course- their death in the real world, too. It was a smart and innovative script idea for that time! Moreover, Wes Craven made sure to include funny scenes throughout the duration of the movie and some dialogues causing laughter on their own. The sound effects played a catalytic role in the overall result and the music of the film was fairly characteristic (overflowing 80s). The cutie Heather Langenkamp was the perfect choice for the lead role and the character that portrayed, Nancy Thompson were among the best I've seen in movies of this genre. The remaining performances were just nice while Johnny Depp embodied one of the main characters, making his film debut! "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is considered one of the most representative films of its kind and it still remains a classic! It has millions of fans worldwide and is a benchmark in the circles of horror fans. "A Nightmare on Elm Street" cost only $1.8 million but it managed to collect more than $25 million dollars at the American Box Office, literally saving the film studio New Line Cinema from bankruptcy. It has assembled a very good rating by users of IMDb (7,5) and it has received positive reviews from the experts of the film industry. I cannot say that I was shocked by its content, but if I watched it in a very young age, surely Freddy would have haunted my childhood dreams. dCVh4lBfW-c
  22. "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" is based on the second part of the successful series of books "Maze Runner" by American author James Smith Dashner! The first film was released on September 18, 2014 in my country and it had very good earnings worldwide ($312.3 million) surpassing all expectations by producers and actors involved. "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" was released five months ago but it did not have the same impact as the first part of the series. I had not seen the official trailer anywhere but because I had seen the first part of the "Maze Runner" and I liked it, I was curious to see the heroes face other creatures after their exit from labyrinth. In the recent years, Hollywood has popped several post-apocalyptic movies where the protagonists are always teenagers such as Hunger Games and Divergent. Hollywood has found a new genre to attract young people to the cinema after sex comedies like American Pie, the splatter movies like Scream and superheroes movies like Avengers! In this case, of course, these particular films are based on best sellers, and their scenarios clicked in interesting script ideas, but not necessarily limited only to them, since they are always accompanied with exciting visual effects and powerful sound effects! The first "Maze Runner" was very mysterious and you could not understand what was happening to the characters of the story until you see the end. In contrast to the new movie, we know what was going on. It has impressive scenery, atmospheric photography and some extraordinary action scenes but I wouldn’t say that overall, it was just as good as the first film. While in some scenes there was agony and suspense, immediately, the suspense dropped and the mood changed. With this, I lost interest in the movie. It should have been a more stable performance so as not to tire the viewer with its progression. Moreover, most of the interpretations seemed indifferent and the director focused on the main character of the book. There was no development in the remaining characters that seemed like “flower pots” in the whole movie. I imagine that this did not happen in the homonymous book but unfortunately, it is something that we always see in Hollywood adventures. Producers are constantly looking to find a hero, a savior, a leader! Oh Jesus! "Maze Runner: The" Scorch Trials" had good and bad moments. I cannot say that I did not like it, but in no way did it cause in me as much excitement as the first film. It just reminded me of, in some cases, things that we usually see in the moderate sitcoms such as awkward interpretations, rushed dialogue and no character development. Maybe, the fault is in the fact that there were several arbitrary script ideas in the new movie and their addition ended up having the opposite desired effect since we saw zombies etc. However, the author's intentions were good and if the producers and the film's actors had faithfully followed the book, I think "The Scorch Trials" would be liked much more by audiences.
