Drama & Social Films
"Hungry Hearts" is an Italian dramatic film that was released in my country over four months ago! Firstly, it was screened at the 71st Venice Film Festival, claiming the Golden Lion along with 19 other movies! Although, it did not win the biggest prize of the festival, the protagonists of the film, Adam Driver and Alba Rohrwacher, respectively won the Volvi Cup for Best Actor and Best Actress! "Hungry Hearts" was also screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and received mostly positive reviews from critics worldwide! Mina and Jude is a young couple with different backgrounds. Mina is an Italian, who lives in New York and Jude is an American who has been working there in recent years. When they meet by chance in the toilet of a Chinese restaurant, their acquaintance will prove to be decisive. In a very short time, Mina will become pregnant and once the child is born, all the problems will start in their relationship. "Hungry Hearts" is a social film that wants to spread a lot of messages to viewers. The Italian director Saverio Costanzo dealt further with the script of the film, after the story was inspired by the novel "Il Bambino Indaco" (The Indigo Child) by Marco Franzoso. He did a meticulous job and declined to use the familiar clichés of the genre, which several of his colleagues tend to make when dealing with family tragedies. "Hungry Hearts" had good directing, very interesting scenario and well-structured characters! Saverio Costanzo emphasized on the personalities of the couple, which differ considerably from each other. Jude uses logic while Mina uses her emotions and in this case the second proved dangerous for their baby's life. Costanzo uses very aptly this particular story, managing to puzzle the audience, that can have devastating effects on a relationship that does not have the necessary foundations. Additionally, the film had excellent performances, beautiful photography and a touching soundtrack! "Hungry Hearts" is one of the best movies that I saw last year! It was pleasant view and it kept our interest undiminished in its whole duration! I liked the story enough and finally I saw a movie that had something to tell us, without becoming boring and eccentric because of the creator. Despite this, it has amassed a moderate rating on IMDb (6,3), which I consider totally unjustified under the remarkable result. I will highly recommend it to everyone! ftYRcmL1Yhk

Classic Cinema 1970-1979
"Don’t Look Now" is a British-Italian production which was released worldwide in 1973! However, I had the opportunity to watch it on the big screen over four months ago because of 21st International Film Festival of Athens - Opening Nights! Further to say that the cinema was packed mainly by young people, meaning that 60's and 70’s horror films still resonate in the new generations! I had heard positive words for "Don’t Look Now" and the brochure of the festival emphasized the last scene! It is not a random fact that in its time, it left great feelings to the audience and it was nominated in seven categories by the British Film Academy, where it won the Bafta for “Best Cinematography”! "Don’t Look Now" is based on the homonymous short story by a British author Daphne du Maurier! After the unfair loss of their small daughter, John Baxter with his wife, Laura Baxter, will travel to Venice for the restoration of an Old Catholic church. While they try to overcome the tragic incident, Laura will meet two old sisters, one of them that believes that she can communicate with her dead daughter! Although John Baxter brings objections to all this, Laura will try to keep contacts with the two old women! Although I have not seen many films from the '70s, and to have a benchmark, I think "Don’t Look Now" had a very good result! The film's director, Nicolas Roeg, created a great atmosphere in the narrow streets of Venice which caused fear by them! However, I cannot say that the film was very frightening. It just had a very good photography, fast switching plans, loud sound effects and excellent cinematography for that time! In addition, the interpretations of the lead duo were very good and they were quite convincing in their roles! Of course, the famous sex scene between them that caused various comments at the time, seemed awkward and unnecessary to me, and perhaps was added by the director to cause a buzz around the film. Nevertheless, "Don’t Look Now" had all the elements that make a movie classic over the years. However, said that, the last scene was not as gruesome as some people claim, like my brother, and the explanation at the end of the film was not totally satisfactory for me. The same thing happened for the rest of the audience, judging by the expressions of embarrassment and bewilderment of the audience! I would expect something much better according to its plot, which caused you suspense, anxiety and curiosity throughout its duration! "Don’t Look Now" is a psychological thriller that won the attention of the public and critics with great success! It is a film that influenced many subsequent directors and a point of reference in circles of horror fans! I think if I had seen it at that time, it would have affected me even more, but seeing so many films in recent years, "Don’t Look Now" is just a remarkable film. It would make a difference if it had a better ending. While it had a stepwise evolution, it ends somewhat abruptly and leaves a bad taste to the audience! I would recommend it only to fans of mystery films! AUWB-Kw4FiM

Silly Movies
I wanted to open this topic a few months ago. I think that silly movies deserve to have a special place here. "Goodbye to Language" and "Stray Dogs" could be notable movies in this topic. However, my first movie will be "The Forbidden Room". Do you have any suggestions? "The Forbidden Room" is a Canadian production which aired as part of the “21st International Film Festival of Athens - Opening Nights” over four months ago! Having seen some movies at this festival in recent years, I can say that it is a remarkable film festival, which always attracts many cinema lovers. Every year, it has some titles that have never been released in Greece and for this particular reason, it always catches viewers’ attention. The festival lasts less than two weeks and the program contains a wide variety of options. This year I chose to see two movies, "The Forbidden Room" and "Don’t Look Now", which both belong to the horror category according to the festival brochure. However, that certainly was not true for the first film. I quote the text from the brochure: “Fear and terror in the spaces of a submarine trapped on the seabed. A stranger suddenly appears out of nowhere, and members of the crew, helpless to escape, they resort to their darkest instincts. The Canadian creator mixed different genres and themes in a unique cinematic cocktail where co-participate Charlotte Rampling, Mathieu Amalrik, and ours Ariane Labed and Andreas Apergis”. By reading the text, what we understand is that this is a horror story that unfolds within a submarine. From there onwards the viewer's imagination can be expanded even further, as the text also refers to the stargazer/quirky Canadian author. As for the genres and themes, of course, I do not think that anyone could conclude many things about the film. So, I chose to see this movie, based on the fact that it is a claustrophobic horror film with many variations. However, the summary of the brochure had nothing to do with the content of the movie and I felt duped by the organizers of the festival. "The Forbidden Room" was a strange film that had no consistency in its development and occasionally became very tedious and repetitive. The imagination of the Canadian director, Guy Maddin, was out of control to a worrying level. It had a tragic story and the performances reminded me of more caricatures than professional. Besides, it had frustrating editing and picture was constantly dull and dark. The only positive that I found in "The Forbidden Room" was the great photography and some songs that were heard during the film. However, the overall result was very bad and I wonder how this film found sponsors to fund it. Further mentioning, dozens of viewers left the movie theater, something that I should have done with my friend. Furthermore from the start it seemed that this would be something very incoherent and stupid. Frankly, I wondered to myself how I put up watching this inanity which had a total duration of more than two hours! Masochism at the limits of madness. Seeing "Goodbye to Language" on the big screen last May, I was convinced that I would not see such a bad film by the end of last year. But I was wrong and "The Forbidden Room" surpasses in vomiting even the eccentric folly of Godard! It was definitely one of the most unacceptable movies I have ever seen in my life and literally cried over the money that I gave this wretched film. Its poster should be a sign that warns viewers outside the cinema and DVD stores. I would recommend it only to those I do not like! pwKvz-wA3I0

'It Follows'
"It Follows" is a horror film that was released in mycountry at the end of August. Initially, it participated in the “Interantional Critics' Week” section of last year's Cannes Film Festival and it was screened at several other film festivals worldwide. One of them was the 20th Athens International Film Festival - Opening Nights! I was very curious about the content of the film because I knew that it had received very positive reviews from experts in the film industry. However, I have learned to hold all reservations when this happens since that normally is the opposite. The central character of the story is Jay, a college student, who dates an unknown boy her age. When they have sex, he will pass on to her a supernatural threat, which is transmitted only through sexual intercourse. From that moment on, Jay will be constantly pursued by ghostly and scary figures, which only she is able to see them. Her sister and two mutual friends will be those who will help her to put an end in this tragic situation. "It Follows" had some dramatic scenes, but in no way is it one of the best films of its kind. It moves at a slow pace and it has a few scenes with suspense. However, it is based on an original idea. It does stand out from other films in its class. The American David Robert Mitchell undertook the directorial piece of this film since he wrote the script. In his own words, "It Follows"contains some of the experiential data on nightmares he had in his childhood. "It Follows" is his second feature film and it managed to pique the interest of the viewers as it was discussed quite a lot on movie sites. Despite this, its directing was simple and the interpretations were not very good. Perhaps, because of these results, we can see the importance that the role of the instrunctions by the director are. However, Maika Monroe was good in the protagonist role. Moreover, "It Follows" had quite good photography and interesting soundtrack which reminded me of somehow "Drive". I wouldn't say that I was crazy with the overall effect of the movie and for this reason I have mixed feelings about its content. It wasn't a great film, but it was not too bad as well. I recognize the fact that it is based on an original story that has allegorical significance but it could have had a more frightening evolution. At some points it seemed very amateurish and the lack of technical effects were evident. "It Follows" cost only $2 million but it managed to collect more than $17 million worldwide! It was loved by many fans of its genre and there are many critics who believe that it will be classic over the years.

Insidious Chapter 3
DVD Review: "Insidious 3" is essentially the prequel of the homonymous successful film that was released in 2010! I had seen it in the cinema that year and I firmly believe that is one of the scariest movies I've seen so far! However, I think the sequel was quite disappointing and I remember how I laughed with many things that I saw. For this reason, I deliberately avoided to see the third movie in the cinema, which was released in my country at the end of June. We had Capital Controls. That was really scary. However, watching it on DVD with my brother over four months ago, I admit that I regretted not seeing it on the big screen. "Insidious 3" creates a dark atmosphere from the beginning of the story, which prepares appropriate the viewers for what they would see after, while the sudden frightening scenes make their appearance very quickly. The new movie may not involve the main protagonists, Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, but the overbearing Lin Shaye continues unabated in the role of the gifted psychic, Elise Rainier. Moreover, without the participation of the latter, I think "Insidious 3" wouldn’t be so good. Leigh Whannell undertook the scenario once again and he made yet his directorial debut! I think he did fine and made a decent start in the “space of terror”."Insidious 3" had excellent sound effects, very scary music, elaborate editing and nice interpretations. Moreover, it had plenty of suspense as the story progressed and I am sure that you will jump out several times of your seat. Despite this, its penultimate scene disappointed me a bit and I would have expected something better for the ending. I liked "Insidious 3" in general terms, but definitely did not touch the surprising result of the first film. However, there was an improvement from the sequel and the director managed to scare us many times throughout the course of the film. Besides, it only costs $ 10 million and grossed ten times for FilmDistrict Studios. It received relatively good reviews worldwide but it seems that viewers haven’t the same opinion since "Insidious 3" has the lowest average score of the series based on IMDb users (6,1)! However, nowadays, we see a few horror films in the cinema, so "Insidious 3" could be considered as an ideal choice for the fans of this kind!

'Inside Out'
"Inside Out" was the latest project from Pixar in collaboration with Disney! It had very good earnings in the first three days of viewing in my country, after hitting comfortably on top of the domestic box office and remained in first place the first and second week of projection. It also sold 152,000 tickets in 11 days. I rarely watch animated films in the cinema, mainly because I am a bit older, and there are hardly any films of this genre that I've ever seen on the big screen. They are numbered on the fingers of one hand. I usually prefer seeing them on DVD with good company. However, its official trailer and its plot intrigued me that it would be something very remarkable. The central idea of the story has to do with the five basic emotions of people. According to various studies which were made by the movie’s team, emotions range from 4 to 27. However, 5 were chosen from a list! These are Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust which are portrayed by five main characters of the script. However, the central figure of the story is the 11 year-old Riley, who harmonically lives with her parents in a small town in Minnesota. However, when her father found a new job in San Francisco, he will make the decision to move there with the other members of his family. However, Riley will struggle in the new environment and her feelings will be activated instantly creating a big fuss in the mind of Central Control! "Inside Out" is based on a clever script idea that was inspired by Pete Docter along with Ronnie del Carmen. Docter’s contribution was not limited to the invention of Inside Out, since he undertook the directing and he wrote the script along with Meg LeFauve and Josh Cooley! He did an excellent job in all fields and he offered to his audience a gifted animation. The processing of color was excellent and there was detailed work on the characters of the story. Despite this, what won me the most was the script of the film, since "Inside Out" is a film that it does not pretend to be for a particular audience or age group. It is seen pleasantly by children, teenagers and adults and its plot puzzles everyone. This shows that animations have made a tremendous progress in comparison with those that we saw twenty years ago. "Inside Out" was a pleasant surprise and to be honest, one of my best girl friends motivated me to watch it on the big screen! It has had great success within and outside the United States and it is the 10th commercial animated film worldwide! Besides, it got good reviews and has garnered a very high average by IMDb users (8,3)! "Inside Out" is a film that appeals to all ages, it is filled with many emotions and I wish to see similar concepts in the near future!

Average Horror Movies
"Solace" is a mystery thriller that was released in my country over four months ago! Initially, it was intended as a sequel to the legendary film of the 90's, "Seven", but plans fell on deaf ears when the director David Fincher raised multiple objections to this possibility! I knew absolutely nothing about the content of the film, but reading the movie plot on a movie site, it excited my curiosity to go and see it at my neighborhood’s open-air cinema! "Solace" cannot be compared in any way with "Seven", although contributors wanted to promote it to us as a continuation! Although the story was not too far from the shocking film by Fincher, the directing was quite modest and the interpretations of the actors reminded of us the performances of similar television series! "Solace" had a bit of "Seven", a bit of "Saw", a bit of "Final destination" and a bit of "Silence of the Lambs." In short, there was no originality in this endeavor. Its development was boring on several points and there were some emotional cliché among the main protagonists. Anthony Hopkins had the only worthy interpretation, although it reminded me of Hannibal Lecter once again. It was the second time this happened in the last year. The first was in “Kidnapping Mr. Heineken”. I do not want to doubt the interpretative abilities of the recognized British actor, but to be honest, the double diabolical coincidence puzzled me enough. Colin Farrell was not convincing in the role of evil guy and Jeffrey Dean Morgan with Abbie Cornish did not fit at all in this film. The directing of Alfonso Poyart was very dark and yet tedious and the script had only good intentions and nothing else. I do not know what would have happened if they had changed some things in the movie but it is sure that there was no serious reason for its existence. When you want to shoot a film and borrow so many elements from other films, only parody can be made and be good. Unfortunately, "Solace" was quite a disappointing film. It did not offer us something special and quite tired us with its flat evolution. It seemed to me that it was a rush job that was just filmed in order to collect money, but neither managed to do this in contrast to other movies of its kind. "Solace" had no "charisma" and it was one of the mediocre productions that I watched last year. I would only recommend it to the hardcore fans of its genre. The rest just take a walk. Lq86v60c_Jo

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation
"Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" was released in my country in the last week of August! It hit the top of the domestic box office and it had decent total earnings! Having seen the four previous films, I can say with confidence that "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" was the best film of the series. It was action-packed, it had spectacular shots -especially in the scene in which Ethan Hunt hanging from Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Dubai- and endless suspense. So I went with high hopes to see the new mission of hardened agent on the big cinema screen! "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" had all the elements that characterize a great adventure. It had clever script with a strong political background, spectacular action sequences, some funny scenes and elaborate montage! Christopher McQuarrie undertook the directing, the script and inspired the central idea of the story along with Drew Pearce. Christopher McQuarrie gave his best in "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" since he did not impress so much with his two previous directorial works, “The Way of the Gun” and “Jack Reacher”! However, as a writer, he has done much better since he won the Oscar for "Best Original Screenplay" for Usual Suspects" (1995)! Tom Cruise embodies once again the popular agent from the IMF (Impossible Mission Force) and the group which surrounding him consists of famous actors, including Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames. However, the participations of Rebecca Ferguson and Sean Harris were those who played a catalytic role in the overall outcome of the film. Rebecca Ferguson was a feast for the eyes and her character was amazing while Sean Harris fits perfectly in the role of bad guy. As for the protagonist of the film, he was once again incredible, doing himself the stunts from the most dangerous scenes while remaining in excellent physical condition even today. I think that he is the best action hero of his generation and I hope at some point to give him an honorary award for his overall contribution to the cinema! "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" had also excellent cinematography, beautiful photography and very strong soundtrack by the composer Joe Kraemer! Despite this, there were some gaps in the script that could have been avoided by the crew of the film. "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" is definitely one of the best adventures of recent years! It had pleasant development and it did not tire us at all even though the film ran 132 minutes! It had a strong opening at the Box Office in the first weekend and its total receipts worldwide are quite satisfactory (more than $682 million). Moreover, it received very positive reviews and it has garnered a high average score by IMDb users (7.5). Let's hope the sixth sequel of the series will be as good as this one!

Trainwreck
"Trainwreck" is a romantic comedy that was released in my country in late July. I had seen the official trailer months ago and I immediately realized that the protagonist of the film seemed like just an old dear friend. So, it was one more reason to see it on the big screen! However, some facts which emerged in August, indicated that I would see this film directly to DVD. However, with my good luck, a multiplex chose it in the last week of August and so I found a chance to watch it on the large cinema screen! "Trainwreck" is based on human relationships eliminating all taboos encountered in similar films of this genre. The central character of the story is Amy, a journalist working in a lighthearted magazine issue, who has found it difficult to have a stable relationship in her life. She changes her sexual partners frequently and considers it a normal part of life, following the advice of her father when she was very young. However, her boss will assign her an article that has to do with sports and her acquaintance with a successful sports doctor, will make her change her attitude towards life. "Trainwreck" has many funny scenes, unique quotes and dialogues are intelligent and well written. The protagonist of the film, Amy Schumer, is charismatic and without her participation, the film would not be as good. Moreover, she was the one who wrote the screenplay of the film. Judd Apatow undertook the directing and he was impressed by the talent of the protagonist! "Trainwreck" is a film that speaks with a very caustic way about modern human relations and certainly would be loved by open-minded people. Of course, there were two or three invalid scenes that could have been cut to the final cut, but in general, the movie was quite good. The interpretations of the actors were enjoyable, the guest appearances caused a great deal of laughter and Tilda Swinton was unrecognizable in her role! "Trainwreck" is definitely one of the best comedies of last year! It exceeded $100.000.00 in the Box Office and it was considered one of the biggest hits of last summer! It is seen very pleasantly and Amy Schumer is very convincing in her role! I did not know about her before I went to see this film, but from here on, I will have in mind the films in which she will take part in the future. Personally, for me, it was a pleasant surprise of last year!

Drama & Social Films
"Irrational Man" is the latest film by acclaimed writer-director Woody Allen. It was released in my country in the last week of August and it was chosen by many cinemas. Moreover, Woody Allen is very popular in my country and his films always sell many tickets. Having seen his last 6 movies on the big screen, including Whatever Works, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Midnight in Paris, To Rome with Love, Blue Jasmine and Magic in the Moonlight, there was no way to miss his new work! I think this man is a genius and I really envy his talent and intelligence! "Irrational Man" is based on an original script idea that emphasizes on basic philosophical theorems. Woody Allen has always a tendency to be occupied with these issues and always trying to tell us something with each of his stories. Maybe in this way he finds the answers which he searches for himself. "Irrational Man" perfectly combines mystery, drama and comedy and it spreads many messages to the viewers. It had very good directing - some shots were exceptional- interesting script, well structured characters, beautiful photography and elaborate editing. The performances of the two protagonists, Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone, were very good and helped decisively to the overall result. I can say that its evolution puzzled me enough and it made me think many things when the movie ended. Having watched countless films in recent years, I can say with confidence that there are only a few movies have affected me so much. "Irrational Man" won me over perfectly and I'd like to see it again for a second time after a period of time. It is one of those films that require particular attention during its screen time but in the end would have come to a meaningful end. In contrast to, of course, with similar movies of its kinds which do not end up almost anywhere. "Irrational Man" had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival without participating in the official competition section. It has received mixed reviews from experts in the film industry and it has garnered a mediocre rating from IMDb users (6,7). However, I enjoyed it a lot and I would highly recommend it to everyone! It is one of the most intriguing movies of the last year. hP8mPkyBntw

Drama & Social Films
"Miss Julie" is a drama which was released in my country at the beginning of last April. It is based on the homonymous play by August Strindberg Swedish and it made its official premiere at last year's Toronto film festival in the Special Presentations section. I didn’t know anything about the content of its story, but neither had I seen its official trailer on a movie site. I had the impression that this film went unnoticed in my country but nevertheless a neighborhood open air cinema chose it for the last weekend of August! "Miss Julie" takes place in Northern Ireland during the summer solstice in 1890! The main character of the story is Miss Julie, the daughter of a nobleman, who tries to seduce the servant of her father, as the latter will be missing from his mansion for a short time. The relationship will develop with Miss Julie and the servant, which reaches the end and will result in a dramatic and tragic ending. The fact that "Miss Julie" is based on a theatrical text means that it contains too many dialogues and gives mainly focus on the characters of the story. The actress-director Liv Ullmann did a pretty good job adapting it in a convincing way to the big screen. However, the restriction of outdoor scenes and lengthy dialogues created an unbearable atmosphere during the film. Let alone that the last half hour was pretty boring, tedious and overdramatic so I wanted urgently to get out of the cinema. However, despite this, it had very good performances, the script was well written and it had beautiful photography. Jessica Chastain was excellent as Miss Julie while Colin Farrell was worthy of the occasion. Equally good was Samantha Morton who interpreted the cook / John’s fiance. Miss Julie is a great play that initially intrigued the curiosity of the viewer but unfortunately, tired with its evolution. Towards the end of the film I had laminated yawns and I lost all my interest with the turn that took. To be honest I was never charmed by the theater as a spectacle and I always prefer to watch movies. "Miss Julie" does not touch me at all although the overall result was not bad. Nevertheless, the constant clashes between the two sides and the extensive dialogues that they had caused me many unpleasant feelings. I cannot say that I regretted that I went and saw it but certainly I will try to avoid similar films of this genre in the future. Last but not least, "Miss Julie" failed to distract the attention of critics so that to be indistinguishable at some international film festivals and it has also gathered a relatively low score by IMDb users. I will only recommend it to theatre lovers. HOckfmCn38g

I love both of them but my heart says "Titanium". "When Love Take Is Over" has great melody and Kelly's Vocals are solid.

"My Heart Will Go On" is an epic song. Also, Celine Dion is one of the greatest female vocalists (She is the best for me)! She sings like an angel although she sometimes oversings. I know that some people hate her signature song because it was overplayed in 90's (because of demands) but it doesn't mean that the song is horrible. Do you know what is horrible? People who make wars, pedophiles, people who kill animals for trophies, people who skin animals alive for fur etc. Please don't use this word for a love ballad. It's not the suitable word.- Round 20: Least favourite David Guetta hit single
"Turn Me On" without second thought..- Round 20: Mariah Carey • Least Favourite Single
