  1. "We Belong Together" is my least favourite of them.
  2. "Infinitely Polar Bear" is a social film that took part at the last year's Sundance Film Festival! It was released in my country in late July and one of my best girl friends really wanted to see it on the big screen! I had seen the official trailer a few months ago and it looked very promising. However, "Infinitely Polar Bear" was way below our expectations. The main character of the plot is Cam Stuart, a manic-depressive father of two little girls, who is trying to regain his ex-wife after he had a nervous breakdown. This has a major consequence for him: he is temporarily put in a psychiatric clinic. The family finances are in bad shape and his wife, Maggie Stuart, wants to continue her studies in order to find a well-paid job that will bring money for the best possible education for her children. However, the University is located in another city and she needs to live for quite a long time away from her home. So, Maggie asks Cam to temporary undertake the custody of their children. Initially, their coexistence is not at all easy because the children react against anything their father does or says, but with the passage of time, they will coexist together as any normal family. "Infinitely Polar Bear" combines drama with comedy; sometimes successful and sometimes unsuccessfully. I cannot say that it caused me any emotion nor won me as a spectator. Maya Forbes not only directed the film but also wrote the script, based on her own experiences. I wouldn’t say that I was thrilled with her personal story although her intentions were good because apart from the bipolar disorder of her father, all the other characters, even hers, seemed meaningless and indifferent. The interpretation of Mark Ruffalo was pretty good but unfortunately, one swallow does not make a summer. Zoe Saldana was just there while the two young protagonists were undigested and unlikeable. Perhaps, it played an important role the characters which they portrayed. The script had some good moments but in general terms, the story did not tell you more than what you already know. I honestly wonder how this script idea was approved by the producers of independent film studio. "Infinitely Polar Bear" is definitely one of the most pointless and corny stories I've ever seen in the cinema for this year. Certainly, this is purely my personal opinion because in the open air cinema in which we saw it, it was full of people and all of them watched it with full attention. It has assembled a good rating from IMDb users (7.0) and won positive reviews from experts in the film industry. Despite this, whoever, does not affect my opinion, after touching a 5 with grace.

"She's Funny That Way" is an American comedy that was released in my country over four months ago. I had not seen the official trailer in a movie theater nor had I read its plot on a movie site. To be honest, I was not intrigued by the title and I saw it just because there were few options at that time. However, "She's Funny That Way" was a very pleasant story that gave us ample doses of laughter in the elegant open air cinema that we saw it in. The protagonist of the story is Isabella, who works as a call girl. One night she sleeps with a rich and unusual customer, who will give her a respectable amount of money to leave her job forever. Isabella does not let the chance go to waste. She gets the money and she follows his advice. However, fate will bring them close very quickly after Isabella becomes an actress and the customer of that fateful evening happens to be a successful director of theatrical performances on Broadway. The fact that he is married and his wife will be co-starring with Isabella in the play, which is preparing to premiere in a short time, will cause some things to become upside down. "She's Funny That Way" is a comedy of situations, misunderstandings and endless coincidences that reminded me of Woody Allen’s films. The fast and well-written dialogues and the unforgettable quotes were the best elements of the film. Peter Bogdanovich was not limited to the directorial piece of film but also he wrote the script along with his ex-wife, Louise Stratten. He did a pretty good job that combined it aptly with elaborate editing. The interpretations of the actors were good and Jennifer Aniston stole the show once again. I do not know how to describe it exactly but the expression of this woman in tragicomic characters like in Horrible Bosses, always makes me laugh. She played the hysterical woman here. She is incredible! "She's Funny That Way" received mixed reviews worldwide. There were some problems with its official release and therefore the movie came out in the USA in limited theaters circuit. I cannot say that it is one of the best comedies I have ever seen, but certainly, I spent a beautiful time throughout its course. Moreover, summer is not recommended for heavy dramas and sob stories, so "She's Funny That Way" was a good alternative choice for someone who wanted to get away from the problems of everyday life. tjQqJwpYwN8

I just watched the official trailer and it looks very intriguing to me. We have seen many bad horror films in the last years but "The Forest" seems to be an exception. I hope so..It is set to be released January 8, 2016 in the United States! RBc5YcuOThY

"Pride" was released in my country’s cinemas the last week of July. However, it premiered at last year's Cannes Film Festival in the Directors' Fortnight, where it won the Queer Palm (the best gay movie) while it was applauded by everyone in the room! Later, it premiered on the other side of Atlantic, at the Toronto Film Festival. "Pride" has received rave reviews and it was nominated in three categories of the last Bafta Awards, winning the "Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer" (Stephen Beresford and David Livingstone). Pride" is based on true events. Although, there are some arbitrary facts. For example, the character of George MacKay. It takes place in Great Britain in the mid-80s, when Margaret Thatcher imposed very harsh measures against the miners. The latter broke out on strike and received absolute support from a group of gay and lesbian activists, which was set up with a view to raising funds for the miners and their families. However, their participation was not acceptable from all the established members of the National Union of Mineworkers and the local community and there were some reactions on their arrival in the conservative Southern Wales. Although "Pride" is predominantly a social film, it has very funny scenes and caustic humor. The screenwriter Stephen Beresford used a true fact cleverly, enhancing it with humor, tenderness, hope and optimism. The directing of Matthew Warchus was quite good and convinced the public of the time when events unfold. "Pride" also stands out for the very good performances and its amiable and well-written characters. The young actors gave their best (Ben Schnetzer was the best in my opinion), while the older actors were enjoyable in their roles. Moreover, "Pride" had gorgeous photography. This was helped by the green slopes of Welsh countryside. It also had a loud soundtrack. It's an interesting story that spreads many social messages to the audience and it reminds us that help and humanity can come from everywhere. Even from where we do not expect or want it. "Pride "is definitely one of my favourite films this year! It had clever and cynical humor and some scenes satirizing the events themselves without of course affecting people and situations. It won many awards at various film festivals worldwide and it has amassed a high average score by IMDb users (7.8). I think that is one of the most remarkable productions I have seen with drama and comedy elements and I highly recommend it to everyone!
  14. "Papa ou Maman" is a French comedy that was released in my country’s cinemas over three months ago and it hit the top of the domestic Box Office! It became a big hit in France as it attracted over 3,000,000 spectators in the cinemas! I had not seen the official trailer, but I had read the plot, which seemed somewhat funny. I would not say that I am fond of French cinema but occasionally I see very good and thoughtful productions. "Papa ou Maman" is essentially a family story that discusses the separation of parents with humorous and caustic way. The two main characters of the film are Vincent and Florence, who have been married for 15 years. They succeed both professionally, living with great economic comfort and they have three -spoiled- children. However, their relationship has reached a stagnating stage and they decide to separate legally and civilly. Nevertheless, when a promotion they have both been waiting for, things will change in an unexpected way. Since neither of them want to undertake child custody, a merciless war will break out between them in order to convince their children with whom it would be better to stay. "Papa ou Maman" was a light-hearted film that had a unique purpose to entertain viewers. There was no special depth to the story and it was the most suitable choice for an open-air cinema. However, the directing was not the best after Martin Bourboulon constantly made close-ups on the faces of the two protagonists. It seemed like he was obsessed with them and he really focused on the face of Laurent Lafitte. Maybe, he had 30 close-ups throughout the film (without exaggeration). But the good thing was that there was a rapid alternation of scenes which did not tire us at all. "Papa ou Maman" had 2-3 hilarious scenes, but in general terms, it was a corny movie. Some people can be linked to the "The War of the Roses" but in no way to the inventiveness of the successful black comedy of the 80's. The interpretations were just nice but the movie had at least elaborate montage and beautiful photography. "Papa ou Maman" is a delightful family film that came out at the right time in the cinemas of my country. However, the predictable finale and the close-ups of the director were its worst elements. It could be little more than average, if only had at least one more inspiring end. Despite this, the Greek audience preferred to see it on the big screen and I noticed that it received a warm acceptance in the room in which I saw it. It’s not as good as last year’s "Qu’est-ce qu'on a fait au Bon Dieu?" and this year's "La Famille Bélier" but at least you will have a pleasant time throughout its whole duration. bGE5WtXWcCI

  19. "Jimmy's Hall" is a British-Irish production that was released in my country one year ago. I remembered the title but it did not stir any of my interest to watch it at that time. However, a neighborhood open-air cinema chose it the last week of July and I had the opportunity to see it at that time. "Jimmy's Hall" was originally premiered at last year's Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d'Or! The film takes place in Leitrim, Ireland in 1932. The main character of the story, Jimmy Gralton, returns from America to his birthplace after ten years because of the loss of his brother. Deciding to live with his mother on the farm which they have and the crowd greets him with positive emotions. Ten years before, Jimmy had built a place where young people of the region could express their ideas, would attend courses but also dancing modern dances of that era. However, the Catholic Church and the local rulers were against his vision and for this reason, he had to go away from the country and the ballroom was closed. Nevertheless, the community will motivate and convince him to reopen the room this time despite the repeated objections of the church and the authorities. "Jimmy's Hall" was essentially a dramatic story but it had some very pleasant moments too. It had intense social and political element and the dialogues were sharp and insightful. The directing was undertaken by the recognized British director Ken Loach and the screenplay was written by his permanent partner in recent years Paul Laverty. They did a remarkable job and used in a targeted way the life of a silent hero of Ireland at that period. "Jimmy's Hall" had also beautiful photography, nice performances and remarkable sountrack. It spreads many messages to the spectators and it is one of the few politicized films I saw on the big screen this year. The story of Jimmy represents not only himself but also all those who fought for their believes, endangering even their lives. It was pleasantly seen throughout its whole duration and at the end, it turns out to be moving but without becoming melodramatic. "Jimmy's Hall" is a very interesting story that captivated the two main creators of it, Ken Loach and Paul Laverty. It may have not won the Palme d'Or but the film managed to make widely known an injustice of Ireland. I’m sure that it would have been loved by several viewers and hopefully, it will not be the last film by Ken Loach, according to his words. I believe that he has to tell us a lot of important things through the cinema. EwptAfd_BJc

"Southpaw" is a sports drama with strong social elements. It was released worldwide four months ago and it hit the top of my country’s Box Office. I had seen the official trailer some months ago and I was intrigued to see it on the big screen! Furthermore, I have noticed that the protagonist of the film, Jake Gyllenhaal, is getting better with each film and his “shares” have risen very high in Hollywood lately! I believe that he was totally wronged when he was not proposed for the "Best Actor" category at the last Academy Awards. He was excellent as Lou Bloom in "Nightcrawler". "Southpaw" is based on an original script idea, which unfortunately rarely happens nowadays. However, do not expect to see something shocking since "Southpaw" resembles - without copying- older movies that have to do with fallen champions. In this particular case, the main character of the story is the world boxing champion, Billy Hope. He is at the peak of his career and he has gained all that he dreamed about in the slums where he grew up. His wife constantly supports him and he has a great weakness for his daughter. However, a tragic incident will have a negative psychological impact on him and the things will change quickly in his life. He literally lost everything around him and this will make him to abstain from his favorite sport for a while. Nevertheless, his acquaintance with a former boxer who owns a neighborhood gym will play a catalytic role in the future. He will help him to return to the ring with the aim to find his good old self. "Southpaw" moved slowly but in no way was it boring. It has pretty good directing, excellent cinematography, elaborate editing, intricate boxing scenes and very loud soundtrack. Antoine Fuqua was the one who undertook the directing while Kurt Sutler wrote the script. Having seen earlier films by Fuqua, 5 in total, I can say that he has an interesting filmography. Although, of course, he has a tendency to deal with marginal or corrupt characters such as Brooklyn's Finest, Bait and Training Day. However, he had reached the peak of his career with "Training Day, which was a very good film. I really liked "King Arthur" and "Tears of the Sun" too. The latter was buried by the critics. "Southpaw" had also good performances but I felt that Jake Gyllenhaal and Forrest Whitaker stole the show. The first got once again to the skin of his character while the second was worthy in his supporting role. I think the film spread a nice message to the spectators but sometimes over did it with the emotional clichés. There were many scenes in which the main character was hugging his family and crying especially at the beginning and at the end of the film, something that did not convince me for a character that selects this particular sport. Perhaps, the scriptwriter and the director wanted to embellish somehow the athletes of this sport. They, maybe, are seen as harsh and distant from others. "Southpaw" is one of the best movies I've seen this past summer! Its content combines a violent sport with personal and family relationships, without being tedious and burdensome to viewers. It's a movie for everyone and you do not need to be a boxing fan to watch it. It is no coincidence that in the open air cinema which I saw it, the audience consisted of all ages and not just limited to the male gender, since there were many women / girls in the room. No one would have thought this since "Trainwreck" and "Paper Towns" were released in cinemas that period too. But eventually "Southpaw" had more impact than I expected. Its earnings were good enough in the first three days of its release in the USA and it has received a pretty good average score from the IMDb users (7,5). It is very likely to be seen proposed in some categories in the upcoming Oscars, since the movies which are based on boxing, have always a field day in this ceremony like Rocky, Raging Bull, Million Dollar Baby, The Fighter, Cinderella Man, Ali and The Hurricane!

I just watched the official trailer and it looks very impressive movie. However, I notice that it has many dislikes on YOUTUBE. We all know that Hollywood never take seriously the history or mythology. It happened a lot of times with Ancient Greeks in the past. It's only for entertainment. IJBnK2wNQSo
