Me Against the Music didn't have a lot to do with the opening numbers of In the Zone. Britney was guaranteed strong sales in the U.S. at the point in her career. She routinely had high first-week sales with her albums throughout the 2000s. Toxic and Everytime were what really sold ITZ to the masses throughout 2004. The success of those two singles maintained the album's presence on the charts. In fact, the album re-peaked in the U.K. after the success of Everytime. After 21 years, MATM still hasn't surpassed 250,000 copies in the U.K. and 500,000 copies in the U.S. Its sales pale in comparison to the multi-platinum Everytime and Toxic. Many people expected a Britney and Madonna collaboration to yield pop gold, but it turned out to be a middling disappointment. Radio play was also low. Interestingly, Dirrty by Christina Aguilera has sold a million copies in the U.S. and almost 850,000 copies in the U.K.

I doubt Taylor will take a break until she's rereleased Reputation and her debut album. She'll probably squeeze in another new album after TTPD as well. She could wind up with another four charttoppers in the next few years.

Is anyone surprised that a Cher Christmas album is naff and cheap? Everything Cher has done since the turn of the millennium has been tacky. Her and bad taste go hand in hand. Not even Michael Bublé, the King of Christmas, will be enough to save Cher's album in the UK. She might as well release Dancing Queen II.

Posted by a Madonna fan, lol. Madonna's fans, who are probably the most blinkered in the pop world, are in no position to question anyone's vocal talent. I mean, we're not talking about Joni Mitchell or Kate Bush here. Madonna needs writers and producers as much as Kylie and nearly every other pop star. If it wasn't for the songwriters who gave Madonna her breakthrough hits (Like a Virgin, Material Girl, Crazy on You, and Holiday), she wouldn't be anywhere today. She's a shrewd businesswoman and a master manipulator who has a knack for cherry-picking ideas from other people's work and incorporating them into her music, fashion, and videos. It takes more guts than intelligence to spend decades hawking the wardrobes of old Hollywood stars and performers from the 1970s and early 1980s. The success of Padam Padam really has ruffled some feathers. Oh well.

She's always been lazy when it comes to promo and touring. She didn't even tour the US in 1998/1999 when Left of the Middle peaked at #10 and sold two million copies. If she thinks an appearance on GN will turn things around, she's mistaken. The chart performance of Firebird is embarrassingly bad. BMG are on the verge of dropping her.

My 10-year-old niece and 7-year-old nephew both love ABBA. They've watched the Mamma Mia films about a dozen times and also own ABBA Gold. Neither of them has any idea who the Spice Girls are. Is the Spice Girls' GH album a mainstay in the UK album chart? No. Is it still in the top 20 years after it was released? No. It still hasn't sold anywhere near a million copies after 14 years. Unlike Mamma Mia, the Viva Forever musical (also produced by Judy Craymer) was a critical and commercial flop. Between their music, the MM musical and the two spin-off films, it's clear ABBA continue to find a new audience with each generation. I was fifteen when ABBA Gold had a resurgence in 1999 when the Spice Girls started to flounder after only two albums. Many young people in my generation became fans of ABBA at the turn of the Millennium, and kids today are now experiencing the same thing.

The original always reminds me of The Butterfly Effect. Ashton Kutcher looked hot as hell with the beard and shaggy hair.

X sold 82k in its first week and over 450k overall. It was far from a flop in the UK. Body Language has sold nearly 400k. Peak positions aren't the be-all and end-all.
