Ta for the tip-off! Could you ever have imagined 10 years ago that top 10 albums would be selling for less than £3 after less than a year on release! Crazy! :-)

I've never heard any of his other tracks from the Wide Awake era but, as it's probably going cheap now, I should probably pick up a copy of the album!

I actually really like Joe's track and still re-play his X Factor performance of it :-)
  4. I've been buying MW for 16 years now - primarily for sales info. Back in the mid 90s they gave away very little info, but they had loosened up a lot over the past few years. This now feels (to me, anyway) like they've talen a backward step. Not pleased. And it won't help Vidcapper when he comes to calculating YTD lists and so on!
  5. I'd love to see it too!
  6. Texas come to mind! They were really struggling by the mid-90s after their breakthrough in 1989, but they came back bigger than ever with White On Blonde in 1997...
  7. Whoops! My screen's just updated after about 2 hours - seems you beat me to it with Usher!
  8. Whoops! My screen's just updated after about 2 hours - seems you beat me to it with Usher!
  9. Didn't Usher spend something like 4 weeks at number 20 last year with DJ Got Us Fallin In Love?
  10. Oh, ta for that! I caught the guitarist performing Paul Weller's You Do Something To Me on BGT. When he did Fast Car it propelled it to number 4 in the charts so I had hoped the Paul Weller track might have made at least a top 40 appearance. Maybe next week...
  11. Just out of curiosity, how come we have re-entries for 2002 hits by The Calling and Vanessa Carlton just outside the top 40? Were they featured on Britain's Got Talent?
  12. Ta for that MrJules! And ta for the great chart! You do realise that after a while, us chartwatchers will be campaigning for a top 75/100, haha!
  13. Just checked - it shifted ~361,000 last year plus whatever it sold this year - not enough to trouble this chart, though. Shame, it only reached no 7 and I love seeing random low-peakers in amongst the biggies!
  14. Lady Gaga's Alejandro must be tantalisingly close to the bottom of this list - would anyone know how close?
  15. Does anyone know why Heart's Alone is back in the charts? (albeit at #177!). Used to love that track...
  16. Can't believe Jeremih's Down On Me has cracked the Top 40 - weighing in in anchor position. Really wanted it to continue selling bucketloads week after week but keep its peak of 41 :(

Aww, poor you - you don't know what you missed! Hey, maybe my issue will become a collector's item and in 20 years I'll be able to sell it and make millions! :-)

Ta for the info there MFR - I actually didn't realise downloads counted towards BPI certifications!

I posted this earlier in the year, but no-one seemed to know anything about it. In the first week of this year (I think, or maybe second) all singles in the top 75 were shown with their correct sales awards in that particular issue of Music Week, but the following week they were all stripped off again (except the titles which already had awards prior to this). I take it no-one knows what was going on there? It was kinda nice to see the chart littered with silver, gold and platinum award symbols - just like them old days...

In addition to my last reply just now, I mean for singles - if downloads account for about 98 per cent of sales, how can the likes of Rihanna's singles be 'shipping' enough copies for her to grab silver, gold and platinum awards for recent singles (forwhich she has done)?

Just one question: maybe I'm really stupid, but how do you 'ship' a download????

I'd love to see the top three acts from each of the seven seasons of X Factor release singles on the same day. So we would have: Steve Brookstein v G4 v Rowetta (I think she may have came third - or maybe it was Tabby?) v Shayne Ward v Andy Abraham v Journey South v Leona v Ray Quinn v Ben v Leon Jackson v Rhydian v Same Difference v Alexandra v JLS v Eoghan Quigg v Joe McElderry v Olly Murs v Stacey Solomon v Matt Cardle v Rebecca Ferguson v One Direction I guess I'd also have to throw in Diana Vickers (even though she came fourth) and Cher Lloyd (cos she's prob gonna have a post-X Facter chart career) And, they'd all have original songs. Who would make the top 5/10/40/75?
  23. and yeah, I preferred it when there was a bit of variety in the ages of chart stars. Nowadays (with a couple of exceptions), if you're over 30 you're pretty much past it! haha
  24. Thanks for jogging my memory on the top 5 that week! I'd forgotten about the top 6 week in 2000. Ah, it brings back so many memories haha. Was there really a week when the top 7 were all new entries?
  25. Not sure if this helps, but I vaguely remember a week in about October 1998 when it was the first time (I think) the top 5 were all new entries. I think Alanis Morissette's Thank You was number 5 that same week, but i'm sure someone out there can correct me if i'm wrong on this!
