Headlines // Discussion Thread
If Notorious gets any international success, I would release Headlines! as a compilation of their previous hits, something like "an introduction to The Saturdays". I'd release that during the summer, as the album is gonna take a while to come. Tracks like Puppet or Karma could be just like the new tracks we get in any Greatest Hits album. I guess the tracklist would be something like this: 1. Notorious 2. Missing You 3. Ego 4. Higher 5. Forever Is Over 6. Died In Your Eyes 7. Karma 8. Puppet 9. One Shot (Starsmith Mix) 10. If This Is Love 11. Up 12. Issues 13. Just Can't Get Enough 14. Work 15. Higher feat. Flo Rida

You forget that going to holiday for those days (it wasn't even a full week and there were different days for each girl) takes out the option to take holidays during the summer. From now on they'll be working on the promo for Notorious and completing the album, then summer will come and they'll have festivals in UK and international promotion, so the time for resting was that week.

Notorious - 10th Single - 22 May 2011
Last night a Spanish radio station premiered Notorious...it doesn't mean they're gonna get playlisted, but we are on the right way. The program has a big presence on Facebook and Twitter, so I'm getting all the Spanish fans to put some pressure on them. If anyone wants to show some support, just look for "Euroclub EuropaFM" on Facebook and 'like' one of the comments that make reference to the song. Edit: Actually one of the presenters 'liked' my post on Facebook, so that's a good sign.

4.0 dropped by Island/now under Sony
It's the standard for every artist. As Amelle has mentioned it in some form, I'm taking out the "rumour" of the title.

4.0 dropped by Island/now under Sony
The thing is, Island didn't think the material was good, so they preferred to stop making business with them. Although labels are not always right. Amelle retweeted this: Just two hours ago (this girl tweets a lot!). So it must be true.

But it also shows that someone lost its faith on them  someone that's been a decade working with them, seen them in their highs and lows and didn't see any good reason to continue. All in all, they probably will feel much less pressure for this project. Sony won't have much expectations with the album given they won't be investing too much in the prodution process.

Physical releases are important when you have a fanbase, and checking 4.0 sales, they don't have anything relevant at this moment.

4.0 dropped by Island/now under Sony
Something just came to my mind about the property of the name...assuming that Island owns it, how could 2.0 sign that they lend the brand to Island, when there was already a product under the name of Sugababes (One Touch) in the market? In that case, did they sign that the incomes from Warner selling their product was now going to Island? I thought that thinking that 4.0 should then pay to Island for using the name, but I realized there's already a product on sale with the name of the band (I bought my OT copy just a year ago) that it's been selling all these years. Or, maybe when Keisha, Mutya and Heidi went to Island they signed that the name would go along with them? And 4.0 wouldn't need to pay because Heidi owns a third of the brand? Although Mutya wasn't comfortable at all with Heidi at the beginning, because she thought she didn't had fought as hard as them to get success. I doubt Mutya would've signed to share the name with her. But then, she was a kid back then, she would've signed whatever her parents would've told her to sign.

Yes. In the past months I've heard people of Crown saying that Island rejected the songs they'd been doing for the album several times and they cut their budget, so maybe Island got tired of the situation, didn't have confidence in the future of the group and decided to drop them and completing their contract with the B-Sides album(s). Since then I guess the girls have been working with Crown's producers. About the label...if Sony is only distributing would they still get them a spot on The X-Factor? Or would they focus only in their proper acts? But the thing I want to know the most is who the hell owns the name and gets royalties of its use. I mean, we can all speculate for that, but I want a 100% clear answer.

I don't know how the trademarks laws work, but Heidi said some months after Mutya presented the demand that the lable still owned the song. The case was settled, so we don't know exactly what was the agreement they got. About their website, the important thing is that they only have the name of Crown. There's no sign of Island or Universal. For example The Saturdays' website has a link to Fascination (management) and Polydor (which is now their label as Fascination doesn't exists as a label anymore). As for the Island website...that's a point, although they still have the rights of the material by 2.0, 3.0 and Sweet 7. One more thing...yesterday some user said he was going to Sony's office to listen to the track...could this mean Sony is who is distributing this? and they've completely parted from Island? Too many questions...

I don't know, I hope they stay a bit longer in the B-list so they don't leave it in a short time. Rising now to the A-list could mean they could be out the next week.

4.0 dropped by Island/now under Sony
This whole mess started in the PopJustice forum, where the webmaster posted an enigmatic comment about if they were still signed at all with Universal/Island. Then someone realized there's no sign of Island/Universal on their official website and they only put "© CROWN MUSIC 2011" instead. This would mean a lot of things: - They completed their album left in the contract with the B-Sides compilation (maybe Keisha did this too?) - Crown would have to pay Island for using the name "Sugababes", as they are the owners of the brand. - The rights of their material would be split in three: London/Warner owns 1.0's, Island/Universal owns 2.0's, 3.0's and Sweet7 and now Crown would own the rest of the 4.0 material. - Given their relationship with Crown, Universal would still distribute the new album. Thoughts?

The bars of #16-#20 on iTunes are practically equal. They could jump a lot with a little push.

We'll know tomorrow evening, although I don't have any hopes. iTunes isn't very relevant here.

With the exception that Louder had burned off its aiplay and casual sales...Notorious has a lot of time to sell, and the great first week sales it had with no airplay and one performance just proves how great it's going to do. When it enters the top40 airplay we'll see it more stable.
-
Notorious - 10th Single - 22 May 2011
Or a decent airplay or more performances...this is going to get the same numbers as FIO, when that single had a great airplay and a lot of performances...is doing just fine, they'll do more promotion when radio pick it up. This is doing great for the way they've planned the campaign. It will peak later.

Lucky number 7! :yahoo: I'd prefer a top5, but I'd love that position. Keeps steady in Spain. It was down all day to #34, but now it's at #33 (not massive, but at least is not falling). Although I don't think it has any chance to enter the official top50 next week.
