that can be "bad PR is still PR". you know, you hear "OMG France is awesome!" you go and check it out... then you hear "WTH is with Ireland?" and you go and check it out too... same goes for Belarus being so high... not only good entries get a lot of listens, controversial ones do too

The Eurovision Review
Belgium 9/10 love, love LOVE that kind of music. not a big fan of beat-boxing in the middle so it's not 10... Moldova... i like Zdob si Zdub. their Boonika bate doba was awesome! i also love their take on ... but that one.. major fail. 1/10. that one point being an "image point" because i know what they can do and i like a lot of their regular stuff Macedonia... no. just NO! 0 points let me spell it for impact: Z-E-R-O Ireland... i'd rather have a pencil driven through my forehead than listen to it... on the second though, why should i suffer? someone... anyone, pass me two pencils please! with one ninja move i can rid the world of that horrible entry! in case there is still any doubt: 0/10

Slovakia 2011
because arguably every country has moments/disasters of their own... sports related accomplishments are known only to the fans of the sport (outside of the country i mean)... natural disasters... well, there are high winds all over Europe, some countries are struck with earthquakes on a weekly (if not daily) basis. minor earthquakes, but nonetheless. political stuff too. every country has their problems. and your own problems are close to your heart and home. If you see a sad hungry person on your screen or a destroyed house and know that it's miles and miles away, you might feel sorry for a second, but you will forget about it just as quickly. and that's not necessarily bad. so many bad things happen all over the world. if you take every single one of them to heart and respond emotionally to each and every one of them, you will not live long. plain and simple the emotions will consume you. i'm not sure that video is a correct way to present a song. it's too "cheap of a trick" for lack of better words. i don't like when someone shows me a picture of a beaten up dog and pushes my button to give money to the shelter... making me feel like i beat up that dog if i don't give money... low and cheap way of soliciting interest IMHO of course. i love the song though. it's pretty. in my top 10 definitely.

Russia 2011
overcompensating... this is amazing... you can always spot a person who studied English in school and for how long. the likes of Ivan Urgant and Dmitri Shepelev are speaking with very good pronunciation. now, you still hear the accent, of course, i mean i lived in US for over 10 years i still have accent, but they are understandable and you can see that they don't try too hard. i can't say what kind of education Urgant had, but i know that Shepelev went to one of the top linguistic schools in Belarus. and the level there is very high. i went there too. so i was not surprised when he was given the duty to chat up to people in the green room. his English is good enough to randomly talk without an extensive script, just topics and guidelines... but when it comes to someone who either didn't study english at all ( i doubt there are many of those though) or had only few years in high school or university... they are just trying very hard to sound like they know how to speak... exaggerating every sound. similar to when you are trying to sound or look smarter and more knowledgeable that you really are and end up making a complete fool out of yourself... the worst thing is when they try to do mix accents: american and british... just pick one and torture it! no need for two nations to suffer

The Eurovision Review
I'm IN LOVE with the refrain and bridge. but the rest of it is kinda average. Refrain and bridge 10/10 the rest 7/10. average it out and we get 8.5/10 :D

The Eurovision Review
it's an OK song. i see what they were trying to do: starts somewhat like Ace Of Base "It's a beautiful Life" and then goes into "Sweet Escape" by Gwen Stefani... they shot in the direction of a European pop for the 21st century area. unfortunately they missed... i would have given it 6, but i really want to strangle the backup singers. >.< so 5/10

Your rankings of 2011 songs
ok. so i listened to all the songs and came up with few categories as i went along. Can't really rank the songs within the categories, they are listed alphabetically within each category. it will need more listening. but... here we go. groups, songs and little description why or why not... LOVE IT Belgium I'm a sucker for that style though :) Bosnia & hertzegovina love childe of syrtaki and gypsy song. And lead singer oozes charizma Iceland makes me smile. Can't go wrong with that :) flapper-big-band that is somehow relevant today, but then again, like I said, I love that style :) Italy this Eurovising is shaping up like a contest after my own heart :) Netherlands great song. I hope it does well :) Slovakia very good. Not the fav of mine but among the best for my taste :) Switzerland love! Love! Love it! If Michael Buble and Colbie Callait had a daughter… :) Ukraine after hearing a lot about Ukraine's selection process and ppl not liking it I was very pleasantly surprised. One of the few songs I KNOW will bw on my MP3 player long after the Eurovision is over. VERY good. UK They can :) although… it sounds so much like Savage Garden. It's like a mixup of couple of their songs. Not sure if it's a good thing. Sounds TOO much like it. Gotta mention that I loved Savage garden in late 90s. France C'est Genial! Tres magnifique! unfortunately it will not win. There were a lot of good singers, excellent singer over the years, but neither of them won. I really hope he can sing live in tune. Norway and Israel last year were painful to listen to during live shows. LIKE IT A LOT Poland I like it a lot. It seems to be one little step from being in "love" category. Don't know what it needs though. Romania reminds me of something. Not in a "plagiarizm" way. The style sounds familiar. It has a "feel good" beat and melody Russia for the first time since Alsou Russia is among my "above average to awesome" list :) Turkey LIKE Albania eastern melody Belarus especially considering what it was before. Music and arrangement is good, LOVE the dulcimer and the beat… lyrics… meh. Maybe we are lucky and she will be as bad with lyrics that noone understands them? Lol Cyprys very haunting Denmark I shouldn't but I do for some reason lol Germany it's cute and weird. Has potential to either be boring or very very good with the right (or wrong) show. Hungary however, Celine Dion called and wanted her… everything back Malta there is something there. Can't put my finger on it. San Marino pretty nice. And she sings it beautifully: no oversinging or overindulging… Slovenia she is oversinging it IMHO and I wish the voice weren't so nasaly… OK Armenia Estonia Israel personally not crazy about it. But I can see it doing well. Just not my cuppatea Latvia I dislike when the stress in the words or sentences is changed to fit melody... and it's so obvious and in your face... learn how to write lyrics... Lithuania nothing special. Another power ballad… heard it million times before Serbia I like the 60s styling. Spain not bad. Not good. Just ok… but I'm still under the spell of Daniel Diges. He was my fav last year. Meh... Austria Bulgaria nice song but her voice makes me cringe… Croatia old fashioned (in a bad way), boring, nothing special. Macedonia Moldova I like some of their older songs. That one is not good. Unfortunately :( Sweden p*ssy Cat Dolls called and want their song back…. Hold the added lyrics and arrangement. "don't tell me it's impossible because it's possible"… seriously? I mean I know Eurovision is a contest of stupid pop songs but there is a limit…. NO! Georgia trying way too hard… so obvious. When you mix in and attempt and heavy music, rap and r&b… pick one and stick with it! Ireland it's like they took the worst form Lena last year and all those popular culture images and made a song and video out of it. I got a creepy harry Potter vibe from it for some reason. EW! Greece why Greece… WHY? I always look forward to fiery, greek, happy, fun songs… failz! WHA??? Finland it's so strange and kinda stupid that it just might qialify lol Norway no seriously… wtf? She is adorable though. But live singing skils… well.. in lolcats language: Noa skillz… Portugal and the WTF of the year goes to….. Protugal… and while i'm at it i still don't understand why Ukraine can't send to Eurovision. oh and Belarus both songs are in mother languages btw. and Belarussian is about... wait for it... Belarus :) well not catually... love for Belarusian girl :)

Belarus 2011
if Butterflies qualified, that one must qualify lol and the countries in the semi are known to be kind to Belarus. of course anything can happen, but I'm pretty sure that Belarus will be in the finals.

Belarus 2011
ok so they managed to do something nice... ilike it a lot actually. like the cymbals in the beginning and middle. gives it just enough folk flare. reminds me of Ruslana's entry actually. it went well for her lol it is a definite qualifier. actually with as fortunate semi-final list of participants as Belarus has it's one of the top qualifiers. with a right show and good performance it can do very well in the finals. dear PTB in Belarus. please don't screw this up.

Russia 2011
this tandem has possibilities. will reserve my judgement until after i hear the song. pretty optimistic at this point though. might that be the first time since Alsou that Russia would be one of my favs?

Belarus 2011
i'm not comparing it to any particular song. but to the genre. it was all about "USSR is so good" "Lenin is GOD", "communist party knows best", "proud to be soviet" etc. every singer needed to have songs like that in order to sing normal songs. lOgtmn81m8A Vum-hsHy3Gk

Belarus 2011
 did you read my post? all the way? every word? i said it stinks of that "song written on order by communist party" the only difference that it's not ordered by communist party. although with what's going on in Belarus, it's "potatoe vs. potato" and with the way the song was "chosen" it's also not in favor of your argument. is so political. it's so in your face. it's so stupid. it makes me sick! if they are trying to be "tongue in a cheek" like Lithuania last year with "Eastern European Funk" they are failing miserably.
-
Belarus 2011
OMG. NO. NO EFFIN WAY! that song is so crappy! why Belarus? WHY? it stinks of that "ordered by communist party" odor that so many russian songs had back in the days, when in order to sing what you want you had to first sing what "they" wanted. only in this case it's not communist party. awful, awful, AWFUL! can we go back to Butterflies? suddenly they don't seem so bad...
