'Aloha From Hawaii' (Legacy Edition) - New Release 2013
Having just listened to this new Legacy release I am very disappointed, particularly with the Rehearsal Show. The mixing is not in the same league as that done by Mr. Brauer on the PFAP release. In fact I prefer the original 'rehearsal' show mix. Those MSG Concerts will, in my opinion, become the definitive 'live' Elvis concerts. The 'new' Rehearsal mix, once again, makes it sound like there are 500 people in the audience instead of several thousand. As far as I can make out, all they have added is a few extra comments from the audience. Sorry to be so negative on this one but I speak as I find. Brian

As a point of interest, Jimi Hendrix’s 'People, Hell And Angels' album enters The Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at No.2. This puts him back in the top five forty two and a half years after he died at age 27. No other artist in chart history has cracked the top five this long after his death. Elvis is in second place. 'Elvis: 2nd To None' debuted at No.3 in October 2003, a little more than 26 years after his death. Brian

UK Elvis Fan, Rex Martin, Dead
Very sad news indeed. Super UK Elvis Fan Rex Martin has been found dead at his home in Blackpool. Rex was responsible for producing the Elvis News Service Bulletins during the late 60's and 70's. Rex and I go back a long way and he was a true gent in every sense of the word and a loyal fan who saw many Elvis Concerts and filmed/recorded quite a few. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His website was one of the best and can be viewed here: elvismomentsintime.freeforums.org/index.php R.I.P. Rex. Brian :(

The SONY/RIAA Dilemma
EPE show Elvis as having 90 Albums that have achieved either Gold, Platinum, Multi-Platinum or Diamond with the Recording Industry Association Of America. Out of that 90 only 45 (half) are currently available on CD from Amazon.com (and presumably other retailers) that could possibly help Elvis further increase his Awards. Some of those not available on CD are available on MP3 and some from private sellers but very few. The RIAA ruling is that if an original album is re-released with more than four additional tracks then it is given a new Catalog Number and sales cannot be added to the original. This is what has been happening to many of Elvis' original albums with the Legacy Releases and others. Further, two soundtracks or two different albums on one disc are again treated as a new release whose sales cannot be added to the originals. Whilst SONY are doing the fans and general public proud with these new releases by giving them better value for money they are also depriving Elvis from increasing his RIAA tally. From SONY's perspective such awards are not important as they do not increase record sales but from the fan's perspective many want Elvis to get his due. Suffice it to say that the following albums (in their ORIGINAL format) are not now generally available on CD: Elvis Presley Elvis Loving You King Creole Elvis' Golden Records (Vol.1 Elvis Is Back Something For Everybody Blue Hawaii Elvis' Gold Records (Vol.4) From Elvis In Memphis Elvis - From Memphis To Vegas - From Vegas To Memphis Elvis' Christmas Album (1970 Package) Elvis, That's The Way It Is Elvis Country Elvis: The Other Sides - 50 Gold Award Hits (Vol.2) Elvis Sings The Wonderful World Of Christmas Aloha From Hawaii Elvis: A Legendary Performer (Vol.1) Elvis Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis Pure Gold Elvis: A Legendary Performer (Vol.2) Welcome To My World Moody Blue He Walks Beside Me Elvis: A Legendary Performer (Vol.3) Our Memories Of Elvis This Is Elvis Elvis Aron Presley Memories Of Christmas Elvis: The King Of Rock 'n' Roll - The Complete 50's Masters Elvis: His Greatest Hits (Readers Digest Compilation) Amazing Grace Elvis: Walk A Mile In My Shoes: The Essential 70's Masters 50 Years - 50 Hits The Elvis Presley Story Elvis Gospel Treasury The Complete Sun Sessions The Rock 'n' Roll Era The Legend Lives On Double Dynamite Love Me Tender (1987 Compilation) C'mon Everybody Elvis In Hollywood Elvis - Brookville Marketing (1973) Mahalo From Elvis. Some fans will say that the Awards do not really matter and that SONY's policy of giving value for money is paramount. Others will disagree and wish Elvis to get his due from the RIAA. It is strongly rumoured that the CD format will disappear within the next few years and give way to downloading. This may then provide the opportunity for all of Elvis' albums to be re-released in their original format, albeit digitally, as well as the new formats. In this way Elvis could increase his RIAA Award tally. Of course I feel that SONY, in such a scenario, should have a major digital launch of the Presley back catalog, which in my opinion is well overdue. Brian

'Poor Boy' - Different Camera Angle
The Elvis 'Poor Boy' segment from 'Love Me Tender' was originally screened not showing the lower part of Elvis' legs and feet. We have all wondered what Elvis was doing below the knee - now we know. Of course Elvis also stood on his toes singing 'Jailhouse Rock' from the film of the same name. Eat your heart out Michael Jackson. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90MFBZMBSPM Brian B-)

New Book 'Elvis And Ireland' By Ivor Casey
Having read this book what comes across very strongly is the negative effect that the Catholic Religion had on Elvis' music. His records were banned and many of his movies had scenes deleted as they were considered too raunchy for an Irish audience. Secondly, the Irish radio stations would not play rock 'n' roll records and young people had to listen to Radio Luxembourg or alternatively Irish folk music, jazz or opera. Showbands became popular in the late 50's and 1960's and this also detracted Elvis from achieving the fame he got elsewhere as they were performing the hits of the day including his. This situation continued well into the 1960's and many of Elvis' records never got an Irish release until the recent re-releases during the last decade. The book is a good read and gives a comprehensive history of the different eras of Elvis' music and how they were received in Ireland. For me, the negative part of the book is the listing of the many Irish artists who covered Elvis' music as I had never heard of 90% of them. Brian
