  1. Apparently, the Official UK Fan Club want to try and get one of Elvis' Christmas songs into the top ten for Christmas. The song they would like for this is of course 'Blue Christmas' and what they are asking is from the 1st of December for every fan to download 'Blue Christmas' from i-tunes or other download sites ( where the download counts "chartwise" ) and at least try to get Elvis into the top ten. For information. Brian
  2. During w/e 20th November, 2011, Elvis sold more catalog albums (32,609) than any other artist in the US (based on the Top 200 Catalog album chart). Elvis also had the most titles listed on this chart - 9. 1 Elvis Presley - 32,609 2 Susan Boyle - 21,219 3 Adele - 18,512 ... ... Pink Floyd - 13,457 Michael Jackson - 11,209 Frank Sinatra - 8,455 Johnny Cash - 8262 Beatles - 4609 Billboard defines a catalog title as one that is more than eighteen months old and has fallen below position 100 on the Billboard 200. The only exception to the 'eighteen months old' rule pertains to holiday releases. A 'holiday' album is eligible for the Billboard 200 only during its initial year of release. After its first year, a holiday-related album appears on Top Catalog Albums. Further, the above figures only include sales from those Elvis albums listed on the Top 200 Catalog Album Chart in the U.S.A. The Elvis Presley catalog is one of (if not the) largest there is. In 2008, over 60 Elvis albums were listed on the UK Year-End (Top 10,000) Albums list - more than any other artist. Many thanks to Mael for supplying the above information. Now that is some GOOD news. Brian :D

'It's Christmas Time' rises from 82 to 78 on the Top 200 Album Chart and rises from 11 to 10 on the Catalog Album Chart. It drops from 16 to 18 on the Holiday Album Chart. 'Elvis Christmas' rises from 109 to 96 on the Top 200 Album Chart and rises from 17 to 16 on the Catalog Album Chart. It drops from 19 to 24 on the Holiday Album Chart. Brian :)
  4. November 24th 2011 EPE LOSE LEGAL BATTLE - The legal heirs of Elvis Presley lost a lawsuit Wednesday in Germany claiming a fortune from Sony Music Entertainment Germany for what they called the "exploitation of Elvis Presley's greatest hits". The Judge hearing the case in the Munich court mockingly quoted one of Elvis' 50s songs, saying, 'Money, honey, if you want to get along with me,' as he threw out the claim by Elvis Presley Enterprises for a share of the record company's profits over the past 40 years. The unprecedented deal, thought up by Colonel Parker saw Elvis sign away to RCA Records in 1973 the rights to all his classic hits and more, including Heartbreak Hotel and Jailhouse Rock, for a lump sum of $5.4 million dollars. The deal saw both Parker and RCA Records profit greatly while Elvis was walk away with less than £2 million dollars for all but his entire career. Sony later acquired the rights. The Elvis estate argued the package was now worth $130 million dollars thanks to German copyright extensions. They partly based their claim on a 2002 provision in German rights law that ordains a top-up of royalties for unexpected best-sellers. But the judge disagreed. Christian Czychowski, the lawyer for Elvis Presley Enterprises, in which the icon's daughter Lisa-Marie Presley holds a 15-per-cent stake, said his client would appeal. Brian

  7. November 19th 2011 ELVIS AT 12 ON FILM - Hot news hits the E.E.R desk with talk of a never before seen film which is claimed to feature a 12 year old Elvis as he leaves Lawhon School in Tupelo. The film is said to be of Children leaving the School and the young Elvis is said to be seen for only a fleeting moment but if this the real thing, it will be an amazing piece of early Elvis history. We were told a representative from EPE has checked it out. E.E.R's Joe contacted EPE on the matter, who confirmed to us they had met with an individual who showed them the film, but at this time they had not been able to examine the footage in any great detail. Elvis Express Radio will bring you more news on this issue as and when we get further details from those involved. Information courtesy of www.elvis-express.com Brian

  11. The following response comes from EPE after speaking with Billboard Magazine: "The confusion seems to come from the fact that these stats in the article are ONLY based on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which launched in 1958, after Elvis’ landmark years of 1956 and 1957. Since 11 of Elvis’ number ones were on various Billboard pop charts over a “rapid-fire span” of three years, three months and three weeks, all which happened prior to the Hot 100's Aug. 4, 1958 inception, he would not be on that particular list. They said that prior to the Hot 100, Billboard printed various pop charts based either solely on airplay, sales or juke box plays. This includes the Top 100, which was a sales-based chart. Elvis’ number ones on those pre-1958 charts have been counted by some sources in conjunction with the Hot 100 when considered among number one songs in the rock ‘n’ roll era. So Billboard is in no way changing their system to reflect less number ones for Elvis and they were very much wanting to make sure we let the fans know." Personally, I still think it is a stupid decision by Billboard and will no doubt create the wrong impression with many of their readers and lead to the situation where such statistics will be quoted in musical journals throughout the world. 18. November 08th 2011 BILLBOARD DUMPS ELVIS OFF TOP - Elvis pretty much started what we have today in the music world, he was the original Rock and Pop King and he re-wrote the American Charts, became the All American Hero and paved the way for all to follow. Instead of being hailed by the official music charts of his own country, Elvis Presley is having his historic achievements removed from the official stats. The Billboard Hot 100 was first launched on August 4th 1958, but Elvis has always had his hits counted due to them reaching #1 on the main charts of the period....Until now! E.E.R listener Randell Simpson has sent in this information about how Billboard charts have wiped 11 of Elvis' American #1s. From Billboard: With the ascension of "Love," Rihanna becomes just the seventh artist to notch at least 11 Hot 100 No. 1s, joining the following acts 01. The Beatles (20) 02. Mariah Carey (18) 04. Michael Jackson (13) 05. Madonna (12) 06. The Supremes (12) 07. Whitney Houston and Rihanna both with (11) Elvis should be sitting in the second place but he is no longer even in the top 10. Elvis has dropped from a total of 18 U.S. #1s to just SEVEN in his home country. 01. A Big Hunk O' Love 02. Stuck On You 03. It's Now Or Never 04. Are You Lonesome Tonight 05. Surrender 06. Good Luck Charm 07. Suspicious Minds The following are no longer officially U.S. Billboard chart toppers: 1. Heartbreak Hotel 2. I Want You, I Need You, I Love You 3. Don't Be Cruel 4. Hound Dog 5. Love Me Tender 6. Too Much 7. All Shook Up 8. Teddy Bear 9. Jailhouse Rock 10. Don't 11. Hard Headed Woman What next? Will we see Elvis' chart topping albums removed as Billboard decide to change the rules again? Or will they just decide to that anyone with the initials EAP no longer has any U.S. Chart Toppers????? It looks like France is on the list for the 28th of March, as the closing show for the first 2012 tour. Also, a stop in Copenhagen/Stockholm on the 24th is "very likely". 25. Elvis is topic of Chattanooga legal seminar By JOE EDWARDS - Associated Press NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Turns out Elvis the King of Rock and Roll spawned Elvis the lawsuit - a whole lotta lawsuits. It'll be a hunka hunka review of Elvis' legal cases Tuesday, in Chattanooga, Tenn. Legal Aid of East Tennessee is sponsoring a three-hour continuing legal education session. It's billed as "Elvis Law. The state and federal cases dealing with the late king of rock 'n' roll." The presentation is free. Attorneys attending get three hours toward a required 15 hours of continuing education each year. To attract attention in an email announcing the session, the legal aid group showed a famous 1970 photo of Elvis and then-President Richard Nixon. A 10-foot cardboard cutout of Elvis will greet attendees. And a little Elvis music may be played as they mingle before the presentation starts. "We're approaching it in a light-hearted way," said Charlie McDaniel, pro bono project director. Around three dozen attorneys from southeast Tennessee are expected to attend. The speaker won't be in a white jumpsuit a la Elvis. After all, it is a serious topic worth reviewing. "Elvis was fascinating," said Russell Fowler, the group's associate director who will lead the presentation. "He was not litigious, never sued anybody. He'd fire someone and then give them $50,000 to be nice. But when he died, litigation sprang from everywhere." He said topics will include ownership of Elvis' name, likeness and image; media access to his autopsy records; disputes over what happened to concert tickets sold before Elvis died, and others. "We're amazed at how many different type cases there were," Fowler said. "This relates to his popularity and fame." However, the presentation probably will not interest Elvis fans - even those with a burning love for him. "I think they would get a kick out of knowing it's taking place, but it's a hard look at law to keep attorneys up to date," said McDaniel. He'll speak during the presentation, encouraging the attorneys to do pro bono work. "It'll be bait and switch," he said. "We'll tell them about Elvis, and then try to get them to represent poor people in this area." Elvis Presley Enterprises did not return an email request for comment on the session. Elvis died at his Graceland residence in Memphis in 1977 following a 20-year career. Fowler is from Memphis and grew up in Elvis' neighborhood. "I'd see him driving around the grounds (of Graceland), and talked to him, just "Hi, how are you?" One time he had a new big truck, and he had apparently broken a bumper." Brian
