She bumped into him while watching a show in Los Angeles and he invited her and some pals back to his hotel room. They expected a wild party, and were amazed by what actually happened. “A group of us, including Alice Cooper, Chubby Checker and Linda Lovelace were there and Elvis disappeared,” she explained. “Then suddenly the door flies open and he's there in full [karate] dress shouting, 'Hi-Ya,' and kicking.” Sounds like Elvis to me!!!!!!!! The Saga continues............. Brian At a recent shareholders’ meeting of ValCom, Inc, it was stated that the company’s extensive audio and video library contains “13 master recordings of Elvis Presley with The Platters.” The presentation was given by representatives from DOS Broadcast and Appraisal Services, who have independently appraised ValCom’s libraries. So, what are the 13 songs? The audio library document prepared by DOS Broadcast and Appraisal Services cites that the following titles feature: “The Platters with Elvis Presley”: 01. Little Things Mean A Lot 02. Love Me Tender 03. Volare 04. The Twist 05. Don’t Be Cruel 06. Anniversary 07. The Great Pretender 08. Tammy 09. Song From Moulin Rouge 10. Rock Around The Clock 11. Exodus 12. Mack The Knife 13. Theme From Summer Place. In each case the source is listed as Buck Ram Studio and the “Type Record” is listed as “Studio Tape.” Buck Ram was The Platters’ mentor and principal songwriter, responsible for titles such as “The Great Pretender” and “Only You.” Keen eyed readers might notice that the first 10 tracks in the list are the same titles as included on The Platters’ mid-’60s album “The 10th Anniversary Album.” Does this mean that Elvis appeared on that album? Senior appraiser from DOS Broadcast and Appraisal Services, Dale O. Smith, told Classic Pop Icons: “DOS has reviewed the Tapes in possession of ValCom and can confirm from both Physical Evidence such as the engineers name and notes that what was represented in the appraisal is in fact true. Elvis was an unnamed background singer on the 10th Anniversary Album. There is also quite a bit of anecdotal and verbal historical evidence from those involved that has been a well-kept secret for almost 35 years. I can also now tell you that the tape was listened to this week and when the tracks were separated it was very clearly Elvis’ voice as a background vocal". Elvis’ career has been scrutinised so closely that many will find it difficult to believe that this could have been missed for so long, but the appraisal has certainly been made in good faith. We do know that Elvis was an admirer of vocal groups in general and The Platters specifically, even including their hit “Only You” in his early stage repertoire. Could it be that Elvis joined in the session but chose not to be credited at the time in order to avoid contractual issues with the record companies? The “10th Anniversary Album” is quite an obscure title and long out of print. You can bet that the songs will be heard again if Elvis is indeed on the recordings? The 2012 Tour may be a lot bigger than we've been told so far. According to the Times Record News, the Stamps (that's Ed Enoch and four new members, Jerry Kelso, Michael Means, Roger Robinson and Chad Riley) will be the male backing vocals. Also, Times Record News, whose journalists spoke with Ed Enoch, indicates that the 2012 Tour will be traveling to Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada and Hawaii. From the Times Record News Website: The Stamps these days are led by Ed Enoch, the only remaining member of the group who toured with Elvis in the '70s. The King invited the quartet to tour with him in 1971, and they were a regular fixture at his live concerts until his death in 1977. The band members often would go to The King's hotel suite after performing a concert, where they'd sing gospel music with him. The Stamps also contributed vocals to many of his studio recordings between 1972 and 1977. It was during this time that the gospel group also released one of its most critically acclaimed double albums, "Live at Murray State." The Stamps Gospel Quartet is a member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and is a multiple Grammy and Dove Award-winning group. Budapest Names Small Park After Elvis Presley BUDAPEST, Hungary April 27, 2011 (AP) Budapest's city council has approved a plan to name a small park after Elvis Presley in commemoration of The King's support for Hungary's anti-Soviet revolution of 1956. Budapest mayor Istvan Tarlos said Wednesday that a plot near the Margaret Bridge will be called Elvis Presley Park to honor the singer's "sincere sympathy" toward the short-lived uprising. On Jan. 6, 1957, during his last appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show," Elvis sang a gospel standard, "Peace in the Valley," which Sullivan said reflected the singer's concern for Hungarians' plight after the uprising. Sullivan said Elvis wanted people to make donations to be sent to Hungary. The site in Buda, separated from Pest by the Danube River, was chosen in voting held last month on the city website. If someone downloads an individual track (e.g. "Suspicious Minds") it counts as one sale for the "single" or "tracks" Suspicious Minds - regardless of whatever version was chosen (i.e. a live version, a remix, a remastered version, an extended version, etc.), and regardless of whatever source that person chose from (ie it doesn't matter which particular Elvis album it was chosen from, or if it was instead chosen from a compilation of hits from the 1960s, for example). Every single-track download of any version of "Suspicious Minds" credited to Elvis counts as one sale, and is added to the running total. If total sales in any particular week are high enough, "Suspicious Minds" will appear in the UK charts (assuming you're in the UK) - though a sale of well over 1,000 copies is presently needed to have any chance of coming within shouting range of the Top 200. For a downloaded album to count as a sale of an album, equivalent to the sale of a CD, then the album must be bought in its entirety in one go. If, instead, someone buys each track individually in separate transactions, then instead of counting as sale of 1 album, it instead counts as 1 sale of each individual track (i.e. the purchaser has bought 10 "singles" rather than 1 album). It's unlikely that people would do this, though, as it's usually cheaper to buy an album as an album, rather than buying each track separately. For information. Brian ;)
