Biggest song to never reach #1?
Surprised no one has mentioned Madonna, eg Like a Virgin and Material Girl, most of the public think these were number ones/classics

United Kingdom 2014
This was tagged onto the end of the BBC report on the semi-final: ''Her single entered the UK chart at number 48 on Sunday, and is expected to break the top 40 after Saturday's final - but bookmakers' have rated her chances for Eurovision victory as average, placing her directly in the middle of the field, with odds of 6/1.'' How can they call her chances average?!

Kylie Minogue - Into The Blue
Lower top 10, it sounds like some of the music from MDNA and this is worse than 'turn up the radio' which didn't get anywhere near top 10. To me it sounds very generic and sounds like a mash up of existing pop songs.

Only to a limited extent as there is no 'pro Thatcher' song to compare it with.

Your opinions on the Thatcher chart campaign
Ok she perhaps was a divisive figure, but what politician isn't? She's being treated like she was as bad as Hitler, this campaign and all the parties are sick and twisted.

United Kingdom 2013
alot of negative comments, seeing that live performance ok her vocals might seem a bit weak but I think she will try and improve her voice and performance as much as she can, being the first single of a comeback album she will want it to do well. Anyway I love the song and Bonnie, My Fave British eurovision entry since Gina G.

Music sales UP 11.6% in 2013
Has HMV's continued sale been the reason or is there no reason and its just sales recovering from their lows?

I hate the writer of this article, everything he writes is anti Madonna, Die Another Day was most successful bond tune since View to a Kill.

iTunes Chart: February 2012 (Part I)
A couple of ques: The Madonna album deals ends on Monday so will the single be able to chart from then on wards or not until album released? Second, is the placing above of the single only from sales of people who bought it separately or does it included the 'extra' sales as well from those who pre-ordered the album?? Thanks

Major markets end of year?
Does anyone know the percentage rise/fall of single and albums in all of the major music markets for last year? E.g U.K, U.S.A, Japan, France, Germany etc. I am just curious to see the pattern ie if albums have fallen in all major markets with singles rising modestly and so on. Hope that all makes sense!

HMV plans to close 60 stores
If this in wrong forum can someone please move it it? I just remember HMV related news being posted here before. BBC News Shares in music and books retailer HMV Group have fallen 24% after revealing falling sales, weak profits and trouble meeting the terms of a bank loan. The firm plans to close 60 stores - which include Waterstone's bookshops - in the next 12 months in order to get costs under control. It said Christmas sales were down 10%, and warned profits would be at the lower end of forecasts. Business was hit by the severe weather and "challenging trading conditions". Sales for the crucial five weeks to 1 January were down 10% on last year, due to a 13% slump at its HMV music stores. Entertainment market HMV also said it was struggling to avoid breaching the terms of a loan. "The board now expects that compliance with the April covenant test under the group's bank facility will be tight and is taking further mitigating actions during the next four months to address this," the company said in its trading statement, which was issued a week earlier than planned. As well as the store closures, HMV said it would implement other cost-cutting measures that would save it a further £10m per year. It said profits for the year to April would be at the bottom end of the £46m-60m range expected by markets. Although the company partly blamed the snow for the poor result, it conceded that underlying demand for its CDs, DVDs and games was weaker than hoped, and also pointed to "well-reported consumer headwinds as we enter 2011". "The pace of change in the markets in which we operate underlines the urgency with which we must continue to transform this business," said the firm's chief executive Simon Fox. Meanwhile, sales at its Waterstone's bookstores appeared to have stabilised, and were unchanged during the Christmas period compared with a year ago. The company attributed this "pleasing" result to turnaround actions implemented last year. Games Workshop Separately, fellow retailer Games Workshop said that it was also facing tough trading conditions in the entertainment market. Sales of its fantasy figurines and other products fell 4% in the six months to 28 November compared with a year earlier. The company further warned that "difficult trading conditions since that time mean that this shortfall is unlikely to be recovered by the year end". As a result, the firm feared that profits for the year to May were unlikely to meet market expectations. Shares in Games Workshop fell 10% at the start of trading in London.
